I'm looking to copy a couple of techniques, but I can't quite figure out how they're done.

The first one is the armour on this guy.

And the other is the red armour sections on this

Anyone got any ideas?

The Brass Scorpion looks like it was airbrushed and then given a thick coat of gloss varnish.

For the DP's armor, that looks like they went with silver, couple shades of brass, then more silver. Maybe some brown washes/glazes in there somewhere. You could probably get pretty close just by experimenting with drybrushing metallics in different combinations and orders.

Armor.. maybe a touch of gold/brass mixed in the in the silver.. painted on solid, black washed, drybrushed over again.

The scorpion really looks airbrushed as Noisy said. Not hard really. You can get more interesting effects on large armored vehicles with an airbrush spraying through something like a stencil or mesh or net.

Try chainmail first (I use gun from.Vallejo model air) and when it's dry, wash it with inks (I use a mix of black, brown blue, green inks and smoke ink)
