I'm still kinda stumped, Miscasts...

Here's an odd situation that happened during a game at the local store.

A bret and VC army were duking it out (It was a good game!) and at one point the vampire on an etheral mount (The mortis engine model but it was the coven thingy) IF'ed a spell thru.

He ended up rolling a 6 on the miscast chart which put the small template on him and the etheral mount. The question was... did the miscast STR 10 hit actually wound the etheral mount?

I know that hits caused by miscasts aren't magical and that you dont get Magic resistance against them. Yet, the wound came from a miscast and so really could go either way with the etheral thing.

So when I was approched with this question my knee-jerk reaction was "Yea, it takes the wound" but before I could answer I became stumped by to lines of logic.

1.) The miscast came from a magical spell gone crazy which is based in the winds of magic therefore the etheral mount would be wounded by it.

2.) NOTHING in the BRB or FAQ's (That I've found anyway) says that miscast wounds are magical and the BRB FAQ actually states you DO NOT get MR against wounds caused by a miscast... which makes me think that the etheral mount doesnt take the wound from the miscast.

If logical point two is correct then every slann in the world should take the etheral gift as well as any other caster where that option is given to them. Also, is that the intention of GW with the miscast / etheral combo or is this just a loophole found by mistake now that the new books are creating paradoxes!

If logical point 1 is correct then why the heck don't we get MR against miscast wounds?

In the end they just rolled off on whether or not the mount took the wound but I'm calling on the collective knowledge of this forum to help me find a difinative answer to this odd situation.

Honestly I really have no idea. lol!

Dang, Disreguard my question. I just checked the FAQ again and actually read it all.

Q: What are ‘magical attacks’? (p68)
A: All attacks made by spells and magic items are considered to
be magical attacks, as are all attacks that are specifically noted
as being magical attacks. Shots fired from magical items are
also considered to be magical attacks, unless their description
specifically states otherwise. Hits inflicted by rolls on the
Miscast table are treated as magical attacks.

I just needed to post it on here in order to look stupid before I found the answer.

You've already answered your own question, but still: a lot of spells don't allow MR either so this really would have had no bearing on the answer.

So... (?)
Hits from the Miscast Table are Magical Attacks. (so they hurt ethereals!)
But you don't get Magic Resistance against them. (?)

If MR was to play a part in this, they would have had to write that "Hits from the Miscast Table are concidered Direct Damage/Magic Missiles."

Am I getting this right?

The question was kind of moot anyway, since Coven Thrones ARE NOT etheral.

It's odd how many people I have seen make this "mistake" sice the release of this book, it clearly states that it moves as ethereal...

Are you saying that I made a mistake or that Tremendous and the VC player did bonesaww?
