Hi folks, time for yet another batrep. This is my last training game for the ETC comped tournament held next weekend. This time I played against the same guy that I played against in my first batrep (OK vs. DoC) but this time he was fielding his high elves. In the past I’ve played against HE twice, both times were during 7th edition and both times I got beaten, so I was bit worried when going against his army as I knew that HE is tough army.
-He has ASF and higher I so he gets to reroll misses
-Most of the time he’s wounding me on 2+, shooting and spears wounding on 4+
-He has tons of attacks
=Bad times for bloodletters
Anyway, here’s his list:
Star dragon, Armor of caledor, Vambraces of defence, GW (rerollable 2+ armor, 4+ ward
Lvl 2, Annulian crystal, High magic (got vauls unmaking and Shield of saphery)
Lvl 2, Silver wand, Ring of fury, High magic (got Flames of the phoenix, fury of khaine, curse of arrow attraction)
BSB, Armor of silvered steel, Dragon bane gem, GW
Full Command, Banner of swiftness
20 White Lion
Full command, Ruby ring, Banner of sorcery
And here’s my list:
Immortal fury, axe of khorne, obsidian armor
Herald of tzeentch
Spell breaker, master of sorcery, lore of light (got birona’s timewarp and banishment)
Herald of khorne
BSB, great icon of despair
Herald of khorne
Demons left flank
Demons right flank
High elves left flank (looking from my side of table)
High elves center and right flank
General view of the battlefieldTURN 1: Demons
Chaff moving forward, general advancing in left flank
Same thing on right flank
My magic phase (winds of magic roll) looks like this and thanks to annulian crystal he has 3dp against my2pd.. In shooting I kill few white lions
Very uneventful turn for me and we're off to..TURN 1: High elves
Advancing on the left flank
Shuffling in the middle
Bit more shuffling on the right flank
His magic is pitiful and he doesn’t get any spells through. In shooting he kills the fiend in the center and couple bloodletters TURN 2: Demons
I shuffle in the middle. HoT escapes from the doomed horrors.
Other bletter horde prepares to invade the building
Fiend charges and clips his spearmen unit in the flank, getting into b2b contact with his silver wand mage. Fiend causes a wound on mage, fiend takes one in return due to instability
I charge both of his archer units with my crushers. The other one dies to stand and shoot and the other takes a wound and doesn’t make it..TURN 2: High elves
Dragonlord charges horrors. Here is the error I made yet again. I placed the horrors in front of the bloodletters thinking that his dragonlord easily plows through the horrors and either overruns into the bloodletters or gets charged by them… Obviously that doesn’t happen.
Movement on right flank
Fiend kills his mage but dies to instability, not a bad trade (fiend 55pts, mage 185pts..)
Like I said, dragonlord fails to kill horrors and is now unreachable for the bloodletters.. I should have moved the horrors next to bloodletters so that if he had charged the horrors then, I would have been able to charge his flank with my bletters.. Oh well, got to remember that next time.. TURN 3: Demons
Left flank crusher attempts to charge archers but is killed in s&s
Thirster charges white lions (ERROR, really shouldn’t have done that. I should have moved him behind the dragonlord to threat it..)
Right flank bletters invade the building. Flamers come to shoot his eagle
My magic does whole lotta nothing. In shooting I make nuggets out of his eagle
Other unit of flamers fry the swordmasters advancing in the left
Dragonlord finishes my horror unit and now reformed to look at my bloodthirsters rear.. (see where this is heading..)
Thirster kills a bunch of white lions and takes a wound in return. Rerollable stubborn LD10 passes.TURN 3: High elves
Dragonlord charges thirster
Swordmasters assault the building…
…And get annihilated. His magic and shooting did little so no pic of those phases, sorry.
Thirster gets in challenge with the dragonlord. Does _a_wound_. Loses combat and melts to instabilityTURN 4: Demons
Bletters face to take charge from dragonlord. Flamers move to fry his other eagle harassing my HoT
Other bletter horde comes out of the building
My magic and shooting does whole lotta nothing, though I at least managed to kill his eagle.TURN 4: High elves
Dragonlord charges the bletters
White lions and spear elves charge the bletter unit
In combat I kill whole bunch of elves and win combat. His steadfast holds.
Dragonlord kills a ton of bletters but I’m still steadfast and don’t melt. I think I made two wounds on dragon, not sure though.TURN 5: Demons
Flamers move to kill his swordmasters (and in shooting, I managed to kill one).
HoT moves inbetween my bletters hordes…
And irresistable forces big timewarp through.
Shooting kills a couple of his archersTURN 5: High elves
Swordmasters charge the bloodletters to the flank
He shoots at my herald with his archers at long range and promptly kills it (his archers were awkwardly accurate through this game..).
In combat he kills a bunch of bletters and I kill one swordmaster and his dragon.
In the other combat I finish his spearmen and reform to look at his two whitelions and bsb that are still alive.TURN 6: Demons
I move my flamers to shoot at his mages archer unit
Lone swordmaster and prince finish off my bletter unit
After I had killed his BSB and the two white lions I had ten bloodletters left in that unit. In ETC comp system, you get half points for a unit if you kill 75% of it. In his turn 6 he needs to kill 3 bletters to get those points…TURN 6: High elves
He charges unit of flamers with his prince but fails. His magic does nothing.
He needs to move his archers to get shots at my bletter unit. He needs 5+ to hit. He gets 21 shots from his two units (I had depleted them a bit). After hitting and wounding, he has caused 3 wounds. I need to save one of these so he doesn’t get half the points for them. And I don’t save it. Damnit.
In the end Demons have lost 1995vp and High elves have lost 1643.5pts which means what Demons lose 8-12. If one of those bletters had lived. The game would have been 9-11.
-I really should have just moved my BT to face his dragonlord. Most likely BT would have been able to handle it.
-I was too scared of the White lions, I charged them with BT because I thought that bloodletters couldn’t handle them, when they actually could have handled them. Or then I could have just stayed put and shot those white lions and fight his other units with bletters.
Oh well, it was a fun game certainly a good learning experience. Next time I play against HE I need to remember these things. And that I should really never put my horrors infront of my bletters…
