hey all
O+G player here,
ive been wanting a 2nd army for a while but never settled.
spent the last few weeks drooling over some daemon pictures,
+ they can be used in SoM in the pacts.

so i convinced myself to order the army book but am getting impatient waiting!
i know a bit about the chaos gods etc, and straight away tzeench and slanesh caught my eye.

how do single god armys work out,
does it really hinder you or can you pull them of in games.
only play on a friendly basis so not competetive.

thanks in advance.

Well, if you don't really play competitive then I think you should collect whatever catches your eye but generally speaking I don't think mono-god lists really work -- this is because each god unit is essentially a specialist.

I personally find mono-God lists to be interesting and even fun looking, but it isn't ever going to be as effective as if you pick and match units between em for specific roles and shoring up weaknesses, and some units are just plain overshadowed by others in the same role unless certain situations crop up.

Greets and welcome to the Forum!

I started out with OnG as a kid too, we have that in common.

MonoGod lists - as I see them with the current Army Book - are very nice alternatives to give some variation once you've gotten some experience/understanding of how to play the Mixed list of Daemons.

I wouldn't advice anyone to 'start' collecting Daemons with the mindset of doing a MonoGod army though. There are people who play monogod in the sense that they use All units but model them to be "all Tzeentch" or "all Slaanesh" for example - but that's not what I am refering to here.

I am actually in the midst of "playing through" the MonoGod armies of Daemons right now. Here is a BatRep depticting when I used Nurgle Daemons vs Dwarves. Next up for me will be MonoSlaanesh! So I don't know, but perhaps there'll be some tidbits in there to give you an idea about the difficulties of going Mono.

Basically, while the possibility of playing MonoGod of course "exists" in a general sense, I don't think anyone will argue our Army Book is actually designed for MonoGod-play. It isn't really a competative alternative. In 7th Ed MonoTzeentch certainly was competative - but that's history now.

Welcome to the forum! smile.gif

We recently had a discussion on mono-God armies in general which can be found HERE

Seems there are quite a few people who are fans of them. Personally I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to start with, but if it is just for fun and the look of the army then why not? Maybe you could use an army thats 50/50 Slaanesh and Tzeentch which would still be an interesting theme to run with, and then you can try using one half of the army on its own as a mono-God force once your collection has built up and you have a few games under your belt.

Come on Tzeentch!

Do you like words and pictures arranged together to tell a story? If so, check out my battle report thread here.

great thanks for the replys guys!!!
had a look through that thread.

going undivided would make building an army a hell of a lot easier (ty battalion)
but i kinda want to limit myself with these guys since i dont intend them to be my main force (unless i am sucked into the realm of chaos smile.gif).

my o&g has turned into a "ill have 1 or more of everything tyvm" army.
and id like to avoid that here smile.gif

i did consider converting say khorne guys into slaneesh etc etc but i have a lot on my plate with my greenskins so i was hoping for an out the box army if that makes sence.

like mentioned duel god seems a interesting choice so i imagine thats what i will settle on as far as my pre looking at book thougths go at the moment.

really looking forward to painting them i must say.
thanks for the advice guys - hopfully ill try and make a small blog on here when i decide on what i am doing with them.

thanks again!!

Welcome aboard Mork!

Converting Daemons to fit a theme can actually be SUPER easy. For example, here's how you make Slaaneshi themed Bloodletters in 4 easy steps:

1). Buy Bloodletters
1.5). Go on eBay or talk to someone with lots of Daemons and grab some spare Daemonette claws
2). Cut off the empty Bloodletter hands at the wrist and attach the claws
3). Assemble Bloodletters as normal, but "forget" to add the face. The kit comes with a weird blank cone that ends in a tongue and you have to glue on the face+horns yourself. Leaving them off looks super Slaaneshi.
4). Paint in pastels.

If you want to add some extra effort you can replace the swords with DE spears and add some tabbards and Slaanesh symbols, but such steps are far from necessary.

On the other hand, themed armies can be a fun way to challenge yourself. Slaanesh-Tzeentch would be a tough army to play, but it would be capable of doing some really scary stuff too. I'd recommend reading through the book a few times and poking around the forum some more before you settle into a restriction/theme.
