Different Paint Color Smells, Your favorites and/or most hated

Greater Daemon Group: Members Posts: 1,622 Member No.: 2,601 Joined: 8-November 10	So I can't be the only one who has noticed that paints from GW (and other companies as well) smell different based on color. I also doubt that I'm the only one who finds some of these to be a little more or less pleasant than others. My favorite is Boltgun Metal. The smell itself is rather unique, but neither terribly good or bad. However, my first ever army was Iron Warriors Chaos Space Marines, and the ENTIRE thing was drybrushed with a heavy coat of Boltgun. So now every time I open up a pot I get all nostalgic. My least favorite for years and years has been Blood Red. Stuff just smells vile to me, and somehow gets worse if you let it get a little too dried out to the point where it is sticky and clumpy (Takes about 3 days for the darn stuff to dry out on me. Stupid red!). However, now that I've started using GW washes, I think that Delvan Mud might give Blood Red a run for it's money by just smelling plain weird. And Vallejo Night Blue is also pretty gross. So what about everyone else? -------------------- Demons need love too...hugs for everyone! (>^_^)> When life gives you lemons, BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!

I can't say I've ever thought about a favorite - but I do like the boltgun I must say. -------------------- It's pretty hypocritical to deride GW for valuing their pocketbooks over what's good for the growth of the hobby while you are buying on ebay and playing in your friendly local gaming store.

The Eternal Bloodletter Group: Heralds Posts: 3,128 Member No.: 2,658 Joined: 24-January 11	The smell I like is Gloss Varnish. It reminds me of back in the old days a little bit. Quite a few of the washes seem to 'go bad' in terms of smell. At least in my experience they don't smell that bad when you buy them new, but after having being opened and used a few times particularly the brown washes get some scent of fermentation. Some dry wash-cans have actually even developed fungus at our gaming club. I suspect its a componant in the coloring of the Wash itself - letting bacteria/enzymes from the brush proliferate more than in other color-mixes. Baal Red wash, for example, doesn't smell half as much as some other colors in my experience. -------------------- BattleReps and Painting

I haven't been near a store in ages now due to working full time again, but I am slowly starting to paint my daemonettes. I haven't noticed a paint I like the smell off... but Ogryn Flesh is rancid.

I have some Baal Red that smelled okay and some that is bad. The bad one also has kind of milky consistency. Had some ogryn flesh with the same problem if I remember right.
