Hey just started up this game as a hobby to do on my days off to keep me out of trouble haha and fell in love with the chaos daemon models...
Now I have just purchased an initial battalion pack ,and looking at expanding on this with some new models..

Was thinking of grabbing a pack of flamers, and 2-3 fiends and possibly another 10-20 bloodletters.having a read around it sounds like I may need some furies as well.
My thoughts are to make the core of my army bloodletters (maybe 40) complimented with some horrors and deamonettes (from battalion )
Are seekers worth making up,as they are the only things I haven't got around to building and was thinking furies would be better vs warmachines

Anyone have advice or can point me in the right direction. Is it better to focus on a 1000pt size army or perhaps a 1500pt one.

Apologies in advance if there is a new player faq, will continue to read .

Hello and welcome to the forums!

By looking your plans you seem to be on a right track and will likely do well with those choices. There is many helpful posts and stickies in the forums where you find tons of good information that can be helpful to the beginner.

Focus of your armypoints quite frankly is all about your gaming group. Most people play 2400pts games, but if your gaming group likes smaller games then try to get army of that size. It is good to build armies in steps, like 250 or 500pts at time so you wont get frustrated with painting and assembling =)

I think playing Daemons (and Warhammer in general) is more fun the bigger the game is. As my esteemed collegue LAV-Kitsune describes, the majority of games being played are between 2000 and 3000 points in size - but I really think you haven't 'lived' until you've played at least a couple of games at least twice that size.

But it's a 'step-by-step' progress regardless of where you aim to get in terms of point-size. I believe on average Daemons actually 'suffer' (competatively speaking) when playing in environments beneath 1k - but concider that an 'initial challange' to learn the detailed dynamics of your list, before your collection reaches a bigger size.

Welcome to the Forum.

Seekers vs Furies
Seekers are fragile and quite expensive but have a whole other dynamic compared to Furies. You can stick Icons on Seekers that allows you to do "commando-raids" with them that Furies can only dream of, you can join a Herald of Slaanesh to Seekers too..

If chasing Warmachines is 'only' thing you're after then Furies are excellent (Nurglings and your occassional "lone Fiend" are equally viable choices IMO).

Infantry
Bloodletters have become slightly undercosted with 8th Ed. They're just simply on average a tad better as compared to the other rank and file troops. This is not something you have to worry about initially, but once you're able to field 200 of them you'll notice this alot more. Similarly Horrors got a bit 'nerfed' in 8th Ed so while still being 'useable' you end up paying quite the premium on them for a "bonus" that doesn't exist anymore (i.e. they used to generate automatic dice to your magic, now they 'just' compete over a finite (12) amount of dice with your other casters).

I'd bunker up on ALL the Core choices regardless, if I were you. Bloodletters are awesome, Plaguebearers and Daemonettes are great too they just require a little more 'matching-up' and have Achilles Heels that are sometimes means an 'extra challange', and Horrors (albeit a little handicapped right now) are not "useless" and will in any case be fixed with a new DoC Book at some point.

Cheers.

Thanks for the feedback..I appreciate both your thoughts.

I have ordered 3 more battalion boxes so will give me a total of 80 bloodletters,40 horrors,40 daemonettes and 20 seekers to play with.
Also picked up a set of 3 flamers.

So to start with will focus on a 40 unit horde of bloodletters, with a herald of knorne and full command ..Then another unit of bloodletters and daemonettes for support. Will do the maths later as focusing on getting these built and painted.
The battalion boxes work out quite cost effective, and gives me options for changing in the future..As I live in australia and pay a premium to buy local (twice the price ) I have been able to do the above quite cheap so Im happy.
From here I can simply build the rest of the force around my core smile.gif

That's the spirit mate!

It just brings me enthusiasm to see someone 'starting Daemons' in this fashion. 160 core models right off the bat, no f:ing around. Just excellent!

And the attitude of getting the stuff painted before you start doing the math is just excellent too. We have that in common. I probably assembled and painted well over 2k of Daemons before playing my first game with them.

Make sure to set up a painting thread in the corresponding sub-forum like the rest of us geeks. looking forward to seeing those Bloodletters and what not!

Haha thanks for the encouragement..Well due to the gamesworkshop embargo for overseas order to oz my order was cancelled but I picked up a couple of boxes of blood letters and a box of daemonettes in the mean time..Also got another box of flamers,a fiend and a few other boxes on the way in the next week
Bought about 80 P3 paints, some brushes etc and ready to start painting these beasts.
My plan is to do the daemonettes in a light style skin tone with orange or red hair tying in them into the khorne horde, with the bloodletters fin being orange.
Will do the fiend and flamers in red orange and yellow combos as well.
Anyways will create a thread in the painting section

What's that "embargo" all about?
Now that you mention it I have seen it discussed before...
So everything is just twice the price in Australia and they prevent you from ordering off the site the rest of us do?

That sucks..
