Flash in Avatars

Well I'm going to go straight to the point, I've made a whole new signature in Macromedia Flash MX2004 and I can't use it since the current board settings don't seem to allow flash in signatures but Gif is okay. Well personally I think gif is okay and very usable but it ain't the same thing as flash. Flash is just better and more advanced. So it would be nice if you changed the board settings so that nice flash-signatures could be used. I know that flash is sometimes a kind of problem since it ain't viewable to everyone like gif-animations are. But Macromedia Flash Player 7.0 is free and everybody can easily download it, they'll find it on google. So what's the problem?Well nothing except that some members on other boards have had some strange avatars and signatures while flash is allowed. But as long as everybody knows how to behave I don't think that's much of a problem. Besides there haven't been any users that doesn't know how to behave on our board.

With our current members, flash would be cool, but you've got to be careful. I remember once, back in the day (ok, so it was only 4 years ago, but I'm more mature now... I swear) when i put the "It's penut butter jelly time" banana as my avatar on a forum. I was proply banned, but it cause 2 days of pain for any one who went near my posts.

Because anything macromedia makes is a spawn satan (*Note: I meant that figuritively not actually. It was not my intention to offend anyone's religious background by the statement, if infact you were offended. If not, carry on)?

Personally I refuse to have anything to do with them if possible. Meh to them on a free forum but animated anythings are a huge drain on bandwidth (if for instance the forum had to be paided for instead of being free, but that's not a likely occurance so is somewhat of a weak objection but meh).

Hmm, I was loking through the Admin CP and didn't see a place to change a setting like that. All I saw was allowing someone to link to a URL for their avatar. Might want to try that. If you can look through the old board Admin CP and maybe give me a hint where it's at, I'm ok with trying it until we have a problem with it.

Administration Menu (Well I guess that's obvious but once you explain something you should do it properly rather than unclear !

System Settings => Security & Privacy => Security (Low) => Allow flash movies in posts and avatars

I agree. Much better looking! I hope you can do some cool stuff like that on the new site when it gets up and going!

Could you make it a bit less 'flashy' I mean for example increase the interval between the frames??

Cause now it draws the attention from your posts, makes it hard to read them (if not just skip them).

At the current stage it encourages me to avoid your posts - we certainly wouldnt like that, would we?

So change that and all should be fine - its a cool idea after all.

BTW: Gif cant handle that much colours or the DPI resolution??

Lurking they are....for they are everywhere! But I agree, a slower change rate would be nice so it's not so dizzying. It's still way cool though!

Well a gif-animation doesn't work with stages of any other format than gif, and as you know gif images aren't known for their high quality rather the opposite. Bad quality . And people like me demand much more effects and tools when creating something, so gif isn't enough for us. We demand flash .

Umm, I'm not seeing a 4 sec pause between changes. Right now, I doubt it pauses even for 1 second. 4 seconds would be plenty if that really were the case.

Better now? It's changing to next stage in 8 seconds before it changed stage each 4 seconds.

PS I don't know what Macromedia means with a second since a second of theirs is not even a quarter of a normal second.

That is lots better. It's changing maybe once every second now, but at least it's not so flashy and distracting.

Its about about 78 beats per minute ( I took a metronome for this! )

So multiply the current interval by two and you should get a nice 1,5 seconds!

BTW: Ever tried smooth transitions in flash? Constant warping? Or too much weight in kilobytes?
