Kairos Fateweaver

Blue Scribes

Skulltaker

Herald of Tzeentch
+Master of Sorcery

10 Horrors
+Icon of Sorcery

10 Horrors
+Icon of Sorcery

10 Horrors

5 Furies

5 Flesh Hounds

5 Flesh Hounds

5 Flamers

1995 points
51 models
11 power dice
8 dispel dice

I've played a couple of games with this list, both against other daemons (1 wall of nurgle, 1 slaanesh siren/Ld bomb) and won both fairly comfortably.
Concerns are : 3 units that are joint most expensive - with one of the "secret missions" at the GT being to destroy the most expensive unit, that means my opponents will have the option of scoring 575 VPs for any one of the hound/flamer units. I have a few ideas for making one the most expensive, but I'd like to hear any you guys have.

Skulltaker usually runs in the flamer unit, giving them MR(2) until he gets in charge range or is Steeded by Kairos/Herald into something tasty. Against the Nurgle wall, he KB'd the GUO, which was nice.

It's a fairly standard build for the UKGT with DoC.

I'm not familiar with the missions/scenarios can you give us more details on them?

6 Scenarios (Random order):

1. Pitched Battle
2. "Dawn Attack" - Roll for each unit as deployed:

1 : Deploy up to 18" from left board edge
2 : Deploy up to 18" from right board edge
3-5 : Deploy more than 18" from the left and right board edges
6 : Deploy where you wish

3. Trial of Battle - No VPs except table quarters and Special Missions. Opponent's table quarters are worth 300VPs

4. Fog of War - Hidden Deployment

5. Battle for the Pass - Played down length of table, deployment zones 12" from centre line. Any unit within 6" of a long edge at the start of any player turn takes D6S4 hits on the roll of a 6. Long edges are impassable even to pursuers, except ethereals and flyers.

6. Breaktrhough - Deploy 24" apart and 12" in from short edges. Score VPs for each unit in opponent's deployment zone at end of battle, no other VPs except special missions.

Secret Missions - Player selects 1 each round, no repeats.

1. Kill enemy general
2. Control more woods than opponent
3. Control more hills
4. Three scoring units in opponent's deployment zone
5. Kill enemy's most expensive unit
6. Kill more specials and rares than opponent does

Each is worth 400VPs. Only US5 non-flying units can control/score. Single models, raised units, and monsters&handlers can't control, but can contest.

Any ideas on making one unit most expensive? (Secret mission 5 protection).

Does that include characters? Obviously Kairos gets it otherwise.

The list is fairly optimized but adding in a champion/musician to a unit of horrors gives you a sacrifice in case a character comes a calling and makes one more expensive.

No, it doesn't include characters. At the moment the most expensive unit is in a 3-way tie between the 2 units of flesh hounds and the flamers.

I'll be hitting up heat 3. We have a Thorek and a Kroak going as well (unless Kroak takes his GUO wink.gif).

Flesh hounds have the resilience flamers are a good bit easier to hide - particularly if you've got buildings. I'd suggest going up to 6 flamers but I don't see a bit of fat you can trim in this list except for the banners. Which I don't think are worth dropping - dice for the most expensive if that's what your opponent is picking.

The secret mission says that if there is a tie for most expensive killing any of them nets the points, hence my desire to make one bigger.

One option is to drop the furies and make a unit of horrors 15 strong (180 points). Tzeentch herald in that unit should keep it alive (only need 1 model left at the end).

The other option is to drop an Icon and use the points to buy a pyrocaster, but that has the twin disadvantages of losing the +1 to cast (which is incredibly helpful), and also that shooting against the flamers will randomise - normally OK, but I tend to run Skulltaker in that unit for MR(2) and manoeuvrability, and losing him to a hail of RXB fire or a cannonball (no LO,S!) would be unfortunate.

Dropping both Icons gives exactly enough points to buy a flamer or a Hound and up the furies to 7.

I'll probably end up just taking the list as it is unless I'm missing something...

Drop the furies. The standards are definitely worth it. The furies are valuable against gunlines but doesn't sound like a lot this year in heat 1. Gives you enough to up something else - horrors would be nice as they can sit back and make your opponent come to them.

That is indeed a pretty darn lean list!

I've found the furies really useful for redirection, and for combating fast-moving stuff that might pin Kairos down. I'll paint up a unit filler for the horrors in case I change my mind.

Well, you should definitely drop something though. That +400 pts bonus with the odds of it happening (or at least Available for your opponent to kill off / gain) being tripled thanks to three "high-point" units is probably too much to offer your foes, especially against the cut-throat high-powered UK-GT types of armies you'll be facing.

Can you only score it "once" ? I'd think so - but in your case, if they can not only have 3-different units to "choose from" in getting the +400...but, if they killed one...they could still kill two more for additional +400, +400 - that would be a definite "no-brainer" and require you to modify the list, I'd think.

Fulgrim thinks of nothing but utterly ruining his opponent's life.

But then again, that's what Daemons do best.

Yes, it's a one-shot thing, they can only score the 400 points once, but its possible that every opponent will choose that particular Secret Mission against me.

The most likely candidate for the change is dropping 1 icon to get a Pyrocaster and an extra fury, but I'm going to play some more practice "games" first.

Hardest thing is finding someone willing to play against it more than once...

I'm also taking Kairos to heat 3 this year smile.gif

I used him in the final last year and came in 12th (losing on table 2 in game 6 only).

I've changed up the list since then in light of the new scenarioes.

LAST YEAR'S LIST:

kairos
scribes
skulltaker+juggernaut
3x10 horrors
2x5 hounds
2x5 flamers+pyrocasters

THIS YEAR'S LIST

kairos
scribes
masque
3x10 horrors
3x5 hounds
1x3 nurglings
1x6 flamers

this way I have the flamers as the highest-cost unit - and that's a unit that's easy to protect. the masque can either be used as an war machine hunter or as a bodyguard of sorts (with bear's anger) for kairos.

the nurglings have proved to be really valuable as their scouting ability and their number of wounds. They can do many of the jobs of furies, but are also a scoring unit - even if they've taken 5 wounds. I'd have an extra base if I could find the points.

The more I think about putting skulltaker on foot in a unit of flamers, the more I like the sound of it - steed of shadows and/or bear's anger on him and he can have just about anything...and that'd be a great anti-bloodthirster/anti-EotG tool in the box.

I have no idea what I'd drop to get him in though (well, obviously the masque, but the other 60 points.......)

I'd just kill the banners, and add a flesh hound.
