And since this is a Magic Item that Daemons don't have access to I actually don't know what the answer to your question is.

Magic Hat on sorcerer, he lose his lvl 4, and old lore, the hat erase the old... It is in the faq, if I remember well.

It has been faq'ed. Model loses level 3 or 4 status and becomes a level 2 mage with random lore. It is meant for combat characters, not pre-existing mages.
