I'm looking to switch from skaven to daemons.
Both as a change from the endless hordes of rats to paint and an army with a completely different playstyle.
I'm looking for a competitive list that will be fun to paint.

1495 Pts - Daemons of Chaos Roster

Herald of Khorne 115
General AoK

Herald of Tzeentch 165
MoS, BSB

25 Bloodletters FC Icon of Endless War 275

18 Bloodletters FC 246

18 Horrors, Standard, musician 234

2 fiends 110
1 fiend 55

3 Flamers 105
3 flamers 105

I may run the BL in one unit as a horde but I'm not mad keen on hordes at low points.

I'm dropping the idea of a 2.5k list until I get a feel for daemons at lower points levels.

Read this. Might help. http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Warhammer/Tactics/...ords_.26_Heroes

Here is my two cents on your list.

LoC L4, Dark Magister, Spell Destroyer 610
(too expensive and your right... he will get sniped.... run kairos instead hes worth triple the amount of points for what he does. If you don't like that... run a Keeper of Secrets. Combine a lvl 3 keeper with the bsb banner that lowers LD by 2 and you just rape units one after another

HoK Firestorm Blade 125
(NO. Get a HoK with a bsb, armor of khorne, and magic banner0

HoK Soul Hunger, Juggernaut 175
(keep him on foot)

HoT MoS 165

26 Bloodletters FC, Icon of endless war 367
(get rid of the icon and make this unit at least 30 or combine the two units into 40)

18 Bloodletters FC 246
(get rid of this unit to either increase the horrors or make the make the bloodletters bigger)

18 Horrors, Standard 228
(you always want FC on everything. make this unit bigger)

3 Flamers 105
(Flamers are amazing... get 2 units of 6 and watch them rip units to shreds)

3 flamers 105
(same as above)

2 Fiends 110
(make these fiends two separate units for war-machine hunting)

3 Bloodcrushers, FC 260
(blood crushers are awful in 8th edition... way to expensive... they are better for 40k)

If you do decide to take KoS take this in mind.

The Keeper of Secrets is probably one of the best choices here, solid magic ability, excellent close combat skills and a ton of wacky gifts that can really **** with your opponent! On top of being a greater daemon, it's fast (M10, I10, always strikes first) and has armour piercing. The Daemon Lore of Slaanesh can be amusing, especially against low-Ld armies, but it can also make this guy's ability jump from good to cheating. Speaking of which, avoid the urge to drop the 100 pts. for Spirit Swallower; the KOS' isn't a longevity monster (see below), s/he's a morale rapist. That said, one of the funniest configurations is the "come at me, bro," whereby you tool your KOS with Siren Song + Soporific Musk and/or Allure of Slaanesh, march 20" out towards your opponents hardest cavalry unit, cast Phantasmagoria if you rolled it (enemy Ld tests on 3d6 choosing the highest) and use Siren Song. This forces a unit to either flee or charge the Daemon and since most cav units will be able to charge, they will rush at the daemon and strike AFTER the KOS - that's if they pass their leadership test due to Allure of Slaanesh! Then once they break, they roll an extra D6 and choose the lowest. For additional fun, grab the Temptator gift and if your opponent was smart/dumb enough to have a character (or even his general) in that unit, you can have the satisfaction of making said character your ***** and using him to attack the unit he's in - serious fun!

I don't agree with a lot of what that link said

for example the masque isnt worth her points... shes one of the dirtiest things in the daemon book. and beasts of nurgle being useful...

but to the OP

my advice would be read lav_kitsune's stickied threads, they give a break down of kill return and point value

personally from your 1.5k list, i would drop the horrors, drop the seekers, drop the bloodcrushers, add more letters to your units, and add a fiend or 2 or more flamers... more flamers is always a good choice

anyway, that's my short and sweet advice, hope it helped

I'd advise ignoring the linked article - a lot of it seems to be related to the previous edition of WFB or just plain wrong, and its just really poorly written in general. dry.gif

In your 1500pt list I would definitely add Armour of Khorne to the HoK since he is going to be your general, and I'd consider combining the Bloodletters into one unit (they don't have to be run as a horde just because there is enough of them to do so). Also, you definitely need a musician in the Horrors for swift reforms (a champ is optional for them). Two units of 3 Flamers and 3 Fiends are what I use in my 1500pt army and it works well, so you could consider dropping the Crushers for them. If you keep the Crushers then I'd drop the Champ as it doesn't add much in a unit that size for 20pts. Seekers aren't great, but they could be used as Warmachine/light cavalry hunters. Have you considered what lore to use? I'd probably go with Light or Beasts, or maybe Life or Metal.

Your 2,500pt I would mostly change things along the lines of what I suggested above, but since you have 2 units of Flamers you could consider keeping the Crushers. Also, since your main unit of Bloodletters is larger you may be able to get away withou combining them. Give the foot HoK the BSB and some armour, while I would say Spellbreaker on the HoT is more useful (and cheaper) than the Spell Destroyer on the LoC. I would give the LoC Power Vortex instead. Furies would be nice if you can find the points for them, or you could split the Fiends as described above (or replace them completely with Nurglings).

Looks like a solid start. I'd probably go with Lore of Light on the HoTzeentch so he can cast Briona's Timewarp on the unit of Bloodletters that doesn't have a HoKhorne, but other lores could work well too.
