Do you dare show us how they're attached? wink.gif

Hrm, not sure why, but the positioning of the wings looks a little too static to me. It's like he's wandering around with his wings mostly spread behind him...just not quite a natural pose I guess. Maybe it's just the picture though.

Somewhat of a concern of mine as well. I've got this exact conversion myself and when it came to attaching the wings (I used different wings but that's irrelevant) I realized it was a pretty tricky decision - either Place the wings where physiologically speaking 'they ought to be' (i.e between the shoulders) or Place them where it's the easiest and creates the least amount of fuss - but then you've got the wings attached to the bare spine of the model..

Really interested to see how Maynard solved that one. It's hard to judge from the frontal pic. Either way I'm sure the handicraft is better than mine, whatever he's done - 'cause I really spent like five minutes doing this Before I handed the model to my wife-to-be for painting.

woohoo hoard of bits had the wings in stock again so I managed to snatch up a pair biggrin.gif

The problem with wings on this model is that the only folded wings out there (zombie dragons) are absolutely friggin HUGE. There are some pics floating around of that conversion. Basicly the model has about 100-150 mm of wings behind him. So eventhough he is put on a 50 mm base if you look at it from the side the half folded wings take in double to tripple the space then that of the model (measuring front to back) The bones in the wing also stick out almost touching the ground.

So I think having it look a little static is a small price to pay really.

One thing you could do to make it look a bit more dynamic is making it look like he just swooped down from flight with only one foot touching the ground and the other hovering in the air still with one of those flying base thingies supporting that foot.

EDIT: This is what I mean user posted image

i think you're tight, i wasn't initially satisfied with the positioning either, but when i tried some more dynamic stuff, i realized i wasn't going to be able to get it to look right without some extensive cutting and repairing of the armor plates on his back. the should plate thing has a very robust shape to it that makes it impossible to spread the wings out even further. unfortunately, i don't consider myself a hobbyist of the required skill to do something about that armor plate.

exactly, all that armor and the straps on his back make it very difficult to position the wings in a satisfactory way, much harder than i anticipated.

I did it pretty much exactly the same way, save for using the old Chaos Dragon Wings instead of the new DE Dragon like you did. Since the model is standing up-right I Think it looks all right, and the DE Wings are definately better than the ones I used.. One just has to refrain from imagining what it'd look like if flying (horizontally).. biggrin.gif

Hmm I know I had the same problem when I did that conversion, my solution was to cut of the spikes build up new muscles attach the wings and make new spikes:

thats a good point alfika, maybe i'll take them off and try it again. you've done a great job with the GS, i hope you don't mind me copying your work!

and yes DReign, you are right lol. it was much harder to get a natural look than i anticipated. still much better than that 1996 monstrosity though!

Yeah I've avoided the 'official model' like the plague..

Great work alfika, although (and I don't mean to be picky) physiologically the wings should really be attached exactly where that strap tighes the shoulder-plates together (meaning you'd need to remove it or model over it).. But yes, nice GS-work and a slightly higher positioning of those wings no doubt!
