Title: wizard and character assassination:

so i was reading up a little on the board for uses of single fiends and bloodcrushers, and i have seen a few times mentioned that they are really good at wizard and charachter assassination. i just wanted to know how effective they are, and if bloodcrushers do a better job than fiends on this, or vice versa.

also.. are fiends / bloodcrushers able to handle an enemy wizard on their own, let alone an enemy buffed charachter. so what kind of characters do you go after, would they mostly be bsb's and wizards?

in my experience, bsb's are usually too well protected to get and level 4's have 3 wounds which is also a little tough. level 2's are the best targets because of their poor stats, juicy pts, and the fact that they are usually carrying important supplemental gear (dispel scrolls, annulian crystals, rod of flaming death, guiding eye, etc.).

i should also say that i very rarely actually do this, i usually have about 10 different things i want my crushers/fiends to do and i only have 4 of them so i usually only go for it if the opportunity presents itself and is too good to pass up.

a lot of it also depends on the army you're playing against. a skaven BSB is relatively easy to snatch up, HE are near impossible, and DE... yeah i wish.

i'm also curious though if someone has any tips for nabbing level 4's though, i never have any luck with it.

I'm in about the same boat as Maynard. If I get an opportunity to attack a lvl 2 I go for it, but it's seldom part of my plan from the start. And there are very few chances where I'd go after a BSB with them. Lvl 4's can be targeted if you want to try shaving off a wound or two to make them more wary of 6-dicing, but it's unlikely you'd get them outright. Crushers might be better for that though as there is the (albeit slight) chance of a KB getting through their inevitable ward save.

i think i will have to try it once, sending a crusher and a fiend into a level 4.. between the both of them, they should be able to kill him. and i think that maybe sacrificing 120 points to take out their level 4 and with that part of their magic phase and dispelling might just be worth it.

The other big thing w/ the lvl 4s is that they are usually bunkered in units or highly mobile (disc rider, dark pegasus, etc.). I got lucky the other night in that one of my solo fiends made an overrun and took out a lvl 4 High Liche Priest that wasn't in a unit. But taking something as fragile as a solo fiend or crusher into a bunker unit will probably wreck any chance of taking the wizard out because: 1) there will be a higher number of attacks back that could get lucky and 2) there will be static combat res to support the troops even if they are poor combat troops which you won't be able to overcome if you fluff your attacks.

I'm guessing a combo charge is more often used. Especially if the character is sitting on the corner of the unit (happens a lot w/ bray shamen bunkered in ungor blocks).
