Title: MSU Thoughts

Sir Billingsly - May 9, 2012 09:22 PM (GMT)
Hi all,

as promised to Eastern Barbarian who caught me playtesting a MSU army on Universal Battle, some thought's about my Experiences with it.

First, the List I used:

1 Herald of Tzeentch
Lore of Death, Winged Horror, Master of Sorcery

1 Herald of Tzeentch
Lore of Tzeench; Battle Standard, Great Icon of Despair
Power Vortex, Winged Horror
1 Herald of Tzeentch @ 160.0 Pts
General, Lore of Light, Winged Horror, Master of Sorcery
2 * 12 Bloodletters of Khorne Ch,Mu
11 Daemonettes of Slaanesh Ch,Mu
12 Daemonettes of Slaanesh Ch,Mu
6 Chaos Furies
5 Flesh Hounds of Khorne
5 Flesh Hounds of Khorne
5 Flesh Hounds of Khorne
3 Screamers of Tzeentch
3 Screamers of Tzeentch
5 Flamers of Tzeench
6 Flamers of Tzeench
1 Fiends of Slaanesh
1 Fiends of Slaanesh

The Plan was to kill his small stuff and warmachines with Dogs and Screamers,
and then concentrate on multicharging his bigger Units. And use Despair icon and Doom and Darkness to make him fail Fear- and more important Breaktests.

The Problem were his three Units of three Demigryphons... wich killed one of my flanks on their own.

it is not a bad list and it did pretty well from what i could see. Glad to see another person joing MSU gang :)

I am not quite sure about 3 heralds of tzeentch- did you have enough dice to use their spells at all? 2 masters of sorcery seems to bit of a wasted effort but perhaps I am wrong, I would be very curious to find out how they performed.

That was my first reaction too. That a LOT of points into casters.

I've not had any real experience of MSU with Daemons, but my guess for the magic would be to have the right spell for the right occaision, rather than to expect to cast them all each turn. At least he's got a Power Vortex to help there. I do think it would be a good idea to get a Spellbreaker on one of the Heralds however, if points allow.

I am also interested to see how well you fared. As stated earlier, I would be scared one or two bad rolls for winds of magic could be very detrimental with three casters. Seems like it could be a big waste of points to me. Lastly, I am curious how the daemonettes did without stubborn banner and no heralds. I've never gone without either one before. I'd really like to see how they preformed.

Hey Folks,

the Daemonettes didn't get the combats they wanted this game so they were dead quite fast, so they will be exchanged for Bletter's next time.
The Idea surely was to have the right Spell at the right time with three Heralds, but I would change the List to some degree for the next game .
Magic Phase is always unpredictable, but I can always play for time with this list. So that next magic phase i can get lucky again.

Heroes:

2 Tzeralds with wings and MoS; Metal and death; one will be BSB with Despair again.
I can't do anything about Monsters and not enough about 1+/2+AS so this
should compensate it a bit. Besides that the Despair Icon and 6th of Metal are a
great combination.

1 Slaanesh Herald with Siren Song
to undo the oponent's movement plans.

Core:
4* 12 Bletter's mu,cha
1* 10 Furies
Perhaps exchange 12 Bletters for Horrors as a 'home for the herald'.

Specials:
3* 6 Fleshhounds
Those are my 'damage doers' so they need to be a bit bigger
4 Screamers
Only one unit of 4 to make the oponent nervous

Rare:
either
2* 6 Flamers
2* 1 Fiend

or
2* 3 Crushers, mu
2* 1 Fiend

The Idea with Crushers would be to boost them and perhaps the Dogs with the AS
Spell of Metal Lore. should rock.

Don't know if th Numbers are correct to the point but I can reduce
Furies if I am over the Limit.

Edit:

OK, just played a game vs Skaven with the crusher List.
I had to stop after turn 3 but it looked not bad then.
Couldn't get much magic through his defenses but had him
sweating by then.
Dogs and crushers put up a lot of pressure really quick.
Perhaps I'll use a Horror Unit next time for channeling and the occasional
flickering fire.
The List plays better than the first so I'll play with it some more games.

i would consider putting at leat one nette unit with stubborn banner, they are gresat and when it comes to killing cheap troops like goblibs, skaven slaves etc ASF and lots more attacks is actually better than high strenght of letters.

whats your reasoning behind 10 furies in one unit? don't you think they would do much better in two units of 5?
also frankly i would take flamers over crushers any time, much more versatile and they are our only shooty troops. Apart from that list looks very good.

JonathanC - May 10, 2012 11:39 PM (GMT)
I think the Horrors could be quite useful, will give you another way of finishing off units that are down to their last few models, or softening up monsters prior to an assault.

Sir Billingsly - May 11, 2012 06:54 AM (GMT)
Hi, ok furies first.
It depends on the role you give them.
I use them as
Los and Cover sources for my flying Tzeralds.
they need to be more than 5 to do that reliably.
If they are not needed for that, they go and hunt
war machines or loners. 5 never worked for me in that
role.

second flamers...

first thing to say about them they suck... for me
I never get good results from them. whereas crushers
seldom disapoint me. especially when I use those 2 units
plus 3*6 dogs plus3-4* 12 bletters. there are too many
targets.
crushers will eat some shooting sure but prime Targets
for cannonballs are the tzeralds with 4+ los- 4+ ward.

to Horrors, I will exchange one unit of bletters for
on unit of horrors next game. and report

ok, interesting concept. I will definitely be interested to see how does it work for you. Did you think about stubborn banner for demonettes then?
