Title: Nurglesque Count-as
Saintspirit - April 23, 2012 11:52 AM (GMT)
Been thinking about making a mono-nurgle army, however on another topic it was pointed out that in 8th there are several spells depending on taking initiative tests, which can kill a complete block of plaguebearers in one turn. So I was thinking that maybe I should add some other kind of daemons as well, just nurglified (note that I am not gonna use anything that uses lore of tzeentch or slaanesh, though perhaps a HoT with MoS (Death/Life)). I was thinking something like this:
- Daemonettes: Dryads
- Bloodletters: Pestigors (
These, in case you hadn't seen them)
- Screamers: Terradons? Carrions? Think carrions are better...
- Bloodcrushers: PB:s on either Rot Beasts or Plague Toads
- Bloodthirster: Gorger? Ogre Butcher? (with wings, then) Jabberslythe?
How does that looks (as for now)? Haven't came up with anything particular otherwise yet, but if you have some ideas, feel free to come with suggestions.
Oh and that's right, I will most likely use this as my blog when I have begun for real.

If you're up for some converting there is good tips on this section on how to convert Plaguebearers from Bloodletters and full army made of beastmen for example. Following those you could easily make some nice Nurgle themed units. Colour theme and some green stuff does wonders so you dont have to have complete models for all of your units.
Saintspirit - April 23, 2012 04:35 PM (GMT)
Ah well, I don't exactly have any problems with the current plaguebearers, so I thoght I'd use them as they are now. It is manely the daemons of other gods I planned to convert from something else. Perhaps the new Wargheists could be used as something (supposedly with some greenstuff on their faces)?
Also, here's the first pestilent cleaver (or whatever they will be called instead of bloodletters):

Note that by now, it has gained some yellow static grass as well.
Talonz - April 23, 2012 05:46 PM (GMT)
Jabber as BT eh? I'd like to see some serious wings added for that! I approve of the pestilent cleaver too.

Perhaps, though I would most likely use it for my beastmen as well, and would then prefer it to be a regular jabber. It wouldn't be a 'thirster, rather a winged greater daemon of nurgle of some sort.

The name, model, or both? Thanks, in any case!'
Here's the musician of the unit:

The only problem with a Jabberslythe being used for both Daemons and Beastmen is that they are on different base sizes. Otherwise it fits the theme you are going for much better than a winged Gorger would imo.
Like the Pestigors as Bloodletters idea, and I think your off to a good start with the painting. :)
Saintspirit - May 7, 2012 11:23 AM (GMT)
Thank you. I will probably build up this army quite slow, starting with just some plaguebearers, a herald and then bloodlepers (better name that pestilent cleavers, IMO), so the pus-thirster ;) will have to wait.
That aside, I here have the two first plaguebearers:
Noisy Assassin - May 7, 2012 01:31 PM (GMT)
Wow, these are looking really cool. I always love seeing counts as armies for the different Powers.
Oh, and if you want inspiration for a Nurglesque looking Jabber-thirster, check out Colonel's army log
here.
Saintspirit - May 10, 2012 09:40 AM (GMT)
Thank you.
I am working on converting a HoN here, thinking about making a cooler plaguesword of some sort and I also remembered this helmet I made a while ago from two CSM shoulderpads; as such a was wondering, does it look good or just silly?

Note that it is very likely to get some other armaments of verious kinds, not sure what though.
gjnoronh - May 10, 2012 12:10 PM (GMT)
scaling is too far off.
You might be able to get a converted ogre onto a 25mm base and use that helmet (because I think the helmet is really cool)
When Ogre Kingdoms was originally released there was a nice conversion in White Dwarf where someone converted one of the bull plastics into a ghoul king lord on a 25mm as I recall
Noisy Assassin - May 10, 2012 01:38 PM (GMT)
I agree, the helmet is really cool but too big. Using an ogre as the base model would also give you something that looks much more distinct from the rest of your PBs and a chance for the nice fat Nurgle feel. And buying a single ogre model on eBay is relatively cheap and easy.
Saintspirit - May 10, 2012 07:13 PM (GMT)
Hmm allright, I'll take that into consideration, I might even buy a whole set of ogres as I play WoC as well; I'll see what I do. But whatever happens, if this guy will become a (lowly) herald, he won't have the helmet.
Sherlocko - May 11, 2012 07:55 AM (GMT)
I concur the people saying it is off, but I think you can make it work if you want to. The thing that makes it "too" big is that it spills over his shoulders. If you give him a neck thus putting the helmet a bit higher I think it may actually work...... :)
Saintspirit - May 11, 2012 02:06 PM (GMT)
Something like this?
Noisy Assassin - May 11, 2012 02:33 PM (GMT)
It definitely looks better now, but I would still use something like a WoC helmet for this model instead and save that helmet for something a little larger.
Feuermann - May 13, 2012 09:02 PM (GMT)
Why not convert some tyranid harpies into giant flyes?
deathphoenix - May 13, 2012 10:29 PM (GMT)
What about finding some giant dung beetles and using them as fiends or hounds?
Here is a site that sells all sorts of gribblies that you may find useful.
The Hivedp
gjnoronh - May 13, 2012 11:05 PM (GMT)
I am not really loving those hive minis. Seem kind of amateurish.
deathphoenix - May 14, 2012 01:54 AM (GMT)
Agree, they're not the best mini's out there. They do provide some ideas though on some Nurgle-ish units.
Saintspirit - May 14, 2012 11:49 AM (GMT)
@Feuermann: Hm, I'm not very into using tyranids, as mentioned earlier I think carrions are a tad more useful to use as something...
@gjnoronh and deathphoenix: While they do seem quite nurglesque, I dunno really about using bugs for this group - feeling more about using models leaning towards a more "rotten" theme, such as Plague Toad Riders for Bloodcrushers, and the like.
To continue, I went to a warhammer flea market yesterday, manely to sell but I also found some stuff which might prove useful; first I found a Mordheim Carnival of Chaos group (figured at least half of those might work as something, that PB with a wig should make a pretty nice wizard herald, don't you think?), and I also got my hands on... Wait for it...
A Warhammer Forge Toad Dragon! Not with Tamurkhan on top, but still...Pretty impressive, no?

Niiice! Now if only it weren't about 6x the size of a greater daemon...
zhambah - May 14, 2012 02:12 PM (GMT)
speaking of forgeworld daemons
if i was making a nurgle themed army theres no way i would exclude
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer/Warh...-ROT-BEAST.htmli think they make better bloodcrushers than the toads do... but I suppose thats a matter of opinion

No worries mate. I'm sure what ever you decide to use will be ace. Good score on the Toad Dragon. :)
Saintspirit - May 24, 2012 09:25 AM (GMT)
A picture of what I have (there's some more, not put together - such as bubebulos). The actual nurgle guys is on the left, the halfly khorny ones is on the right. A pretty good start, if I may say it myself.

There's several things in addition to those (belonging to other armies) that needs to be painted, so don't expect too many more in the close future, but I'll try.
Saintspirit - May 27, 2012 03:00 PM (GMT)
Now then, here's four more Plaguebearers:

Also, what do you think I should use the TD as? A gargantuan GD, a new rare choice, or a mount for a herald? Or something else?
Noisy Assassin - May 28, 2012 03:01 AM (GMT)
Bearers are lookin' good as usual.
And the Toady would probably have to be a HUGE greater daemon. Unless you plan on playing Storm of Magic, in which case it could be any number of goodies.
Saintspirit - May 28, 2012 08:09 PM (GMT)
Hm... I don't play SoM very often, guess it will either be a GUO of gargantuan scales or I will use the rules for Bubebolos and let it be a houseruled rare choice, when my opponent allows me too.
Here's three WIP bloodlepers, including the bloodweeper to the right:

Also, I here have some sort of beginning of a palanquin.

Supposedly, I will sculpt nurglings around those bases I glued together, and put some herald on top... Will see how it goes.
Beastlord Karankawa - June 2, 2012 05:22 PM (GMT)
Very nice - always enjoy seeing the pestigors getting some love. :)
Saintspirit - June 6, 2012 10:46 AM (GMT)
DaemonReign - June 6, 2012 12:57 PM (GMT)
Looking good! Long time since I saw any Pestigors too. I Think they look very suitable as you've applied them.
Looking forward to seeing where you take the palanquin as well. I Believe you're off to a logical start with that conversion.. Have been thinking along those exact lines myself at times.. I'm sure it'll work out nicely actually!
Noisy Assassin - June 6, 2012 01:49 PM (GMT)
Sherlocko - June 6, 2012 02:35 PM (GMT)
Looking good. That skin colour is really nice, well done! :)
Grisnik - June 7, 2012 10:50 AM (GMT)
Very nice coloring on the skin and cloth.. but I have to echo Noisy Assassin.. PAINT FASTER!!! Looks too good to not have more pictures :)
Saintspirit - August 2, 2012 04:35 PM (GMT)
I try to paint fast - it is just that I have
several other models to paint as well. it is all about prioritizing. In any case, I here have painted the unit's standard bearer (I thought I could make the new plastic PB standard bearer into a BSB herald):

Also, I am about to paint another PB very soon, as well as starting on sculpting that palanquin.
Saintspirit - September 14, 2012 05:05 PM (GMT)
Two more plaguebearers painted:

Should have a third one done soon, as well as three bloodlepers (well, relatively soon)
JonathanC - September 21, 2012 12:28 AM (GMT)
Looks good. Keep up the (gradual) good work. :)
Saintspirit - December 5, 2012 01:56 PM (GMT)
Here's another Bloodleper:

(I noticed though, that Munin had gotten this idea as well for nurglesque bloodletters  )
Noisy Assassin - December 7, 2012 04:10 PM (GMT)
I like the brighter green on this guy. It gives him some "pop" that you don't often see for Nurgle units.
Grisnik - January 2, 2013 10:08 AM (GMT)
Great work on everything in this blog. Really liking how those PBs are coming along especially.
Saintspirit - January 2, 2013 06:20 PM (GMT)
Thanks both of you! I do actually have some new things I would like to show; I have started putting together my Toady, and I have also built a couple of Heralds and bought me some of the new plastic bearers. However, I forgot the camera at the cottage... Oh well, soon I should have pics...
