Description: Painting anything and everything :)

elfordminis - April 17, 2012 02:34 PM (GMT)
So I thought I'd share with you all everything I've been painting. This will include my models as well as commissions. The photos will be on the painting table with the phone until a unit is complete. Then I'll take some better photos.

First off is a Killa Kan for for my Ork army. Sadly I don't really like 40K any more and I've got a 4000 point Chaos Marine army sititng in a box so I'm painting these up to sell.

A few of you might have seen my Yellow Skaven Army, and I'm quite fond of yellow. So I'm doing this army in the Bad Moon colours.

Cool stuff! Love the dirty yellow! :)

Colonel - April 17, 2012 03:53 PM (GMT)
Was the rust on the yellow done with a salt and hairspray technique or something similar?

elfordminis - April 17, 2012 03:53 PM (GMT)
Cheers. Went for something quick, simple and effective.

It was a quick and simple method I wrote up for a friend of mine. Check it out here - http://elfordminis.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/...t-tutorial.html

the rusty metal part is easy.. I was referring to the yellow.. it looked a bit like this technique..

Nice looking colour scheme. I particularly like the blood effect on the metal.

It was just done with a sponge. Ripped up and Black paint straight from the pot and dabbed where I wanted it!

A quick picture of 10 Stormvermin which is for my own army. Want to try finish another 10 this weekend before working on a Plague Marine commission.

If they weren't so beautiful I'd have something negative to say about filthy skaven.

Instead I think I'm just going to marvel at them for a while...

That black metal look so effective. An entire unit of yellow and that will be so eye-catching. Big up! :)

God of war - April 19, 2012 07:37 PM (GMT)
Nice black and yellow scheme. Surprisingly very fitting. Could you post some pics without the bright light?

My Skaven army blog can be found here - http://s6.zetaboards.com/The_UnderEmpire/topic/8808988/1/

But yeah I can't wait to get these done. I'll be posting a picture this weekend with half the complete unit (20). I'll be doing freehand on the banner soon too!

elfordminis - April 20, 2012 04:20 PM (GMT)
So I've finished 3 test models for a Death Guard commission I'll be working on from Monday. Not seen many of the Forge World bits but I am looking forward to these! Painted in a few different ways and schemes but the common one was dark and dirty and weathered as we expect these guys to be! I think I'll paint the eyes a dark orange maybe? Wopuld love your feedback too to help my painting improve.

Orange is a good choice for the eyes. They are great but lack pop. I would say another layer of highlights would be required if they were for your personal use. The darkness/grunge is within their character but it isn't eye catching.

elfordminis - April 20, 2012 06:36 PM (GMT)
Thanks. I'm just waiting to hear from the client. I agree I'd like to make them a little sharper and pop if they were mine. But I had my instructions :)

Talonz - April 21, 2012 04:05 AM (GMT)
Orange might be ok if it radiated out from a single point to a black edge gradually, to make them look like they were glowing? hard to describe what I mean...

elfordminis - April 23, 2012 07:57 AM (GMT)
5 more Stormvermin completed. I just need to finish another 13 for a tournament mid June. So loads of time. Might also have a Plague Furnace in the process of painting too :)

Time to continue the Death Guard.

Nice!
Just like the like batch! *haha*

And you know.. You'd probably been done with all of them by now if you didn't paint them 5 at a time.. ;)

elfordminis - April 23, 2012 06:20 PM (GMT)
I would normally paint 10 at a time, but I only had Sunday to get them done.

elfordminis - April 23, 2012 09:51 PM (GMT)
I've got a quick picture of the Plague Furnace crew

Man, great job! lol!

I want to play agains tthis army... although I'd be distracted by the paint job.

"Dude are you gonna roll to hit?"
"Naw man, you go ahead." As I stare at the furnace.

lol! More pics!

Talonz - April 26, 2012 12:00 AM (GMT)
Im not sold on the green wood effect...it just looks weird to me. But everything else looks awesome!

Maybe go back over it with brown wood, then add some actual green fungus to it with flock or something?

I love it. The green wood is fine imo. It kind of resembles the kind of wood you can find in docks and in water and such, which is fitting. :)

DaemonReign - April 26, 2012 02:21 PM (GMT)
Good point Sherlocko.. I was otherwise agreeing with Talonz to be honest, but you're right - now that you mention it, under certain circumstances, it's actually not that wierd for wood to look like that..

The rust-effect on the wheels and scythes is very nice as well. I think I fathom how that's done just by looking at it, and it's certainly something I'll take a stab at doing myself when suitable.

Anyway, very nicely done elfordminis!

The link in the first page shows how the rust was done. Nice and simple :)

Maybe dry Brushing a little brown on the edges of the wood to simulate where the fungus may rub off... I don't know it looks better then my painting progress...
