Just found this one flipping through the site. Wow.

I've seen it before but yeah.. it's hard to imagine how anyone'd top that one. Skill defying hyperboles.

Agh, Golden Daemon site!!

I'm terrified of that link as I will spend hours (literally) admiring.

Really inspirational though.

now there's something to aspire to... :P

*twitch, twitch*

That's disturbingly good. And the goo is so...so...*shudder*

Somehow looking at those models makes me feel so.... inadequate... :(

Breathtaking though.

Awesome banner, great colour scheme. Wonder how long it took to complete the model?

And thx for the link towards the site, it's in my favorites now :) !

I have admired that before and it is indeed a masterpiece. Freehand on the flag is just amazing. Model is also great but to be honest there has been much more detailed models there in the past. This is not to bash out the painting skills, but just to take notice that it is in my opinion the sum of the model + flag that makes this so impressive, not model itself.

I have to agree with LAV-Kitsune. I think it's the banner that won him the statue, and rightfully so. Didn't want to say too much at first, but the painting on the daemonette (in some places) could have been blended more carefully.

For example: the jaw close to the banner looks too black and a bit flat. The middle piece of her mohawk is a bit mis-sculpted.

That said, the level the painter achieved on this model far surpasses mine :)

Well it could be the photography. When one of my friends won a Golden Demon award for his diorama the picture they took of it made the Fire Warrior at the top of the landing ramp look like he was floating in mid air! That said, I agree that the freehand on the banner was probably what won the award for him, as its truly outstanding.

Also, if you look at the 40k squads for last year the second place winner was another friend of mine, although I don't think the photo picks up the details on his models very well (or the 1st place squad either for that matter).

Agreed I've had friends win awards as well and had the comments on line be 'that doesn't look so great' but in person it's unbelievable.

I've seen some of Victor Hardy's work in person - and it's much more impressive than on the web (go find his blood thirster on the site above .. . )

I remember seeing Victor Hardy's models in the Citadel Journal many years ago. He always did good looking Khorne stuff and that dreadlocked Bloodthirster of his was fantastic.
