Title: Furies
themanbelow - February 20, 2012 07:20 PM (GMT)
I wasn't sure if this was the right forum to post this, so apologies if not.
Anyway what does everyone use for furies? I normally proxy them with random models but would like to buy some proper furies. However their price and the fact you only get two in a pack really puts me off going to GW. Anyone got any good and most importantly, cheap, alternatives?

these guys in the Pinned Alternate Models thread in the painting section. Don't know if they are cheaper than GW's models, but they look pretty much like Furies.
Personally I got over the price. I use the official ones. And I have about 40 of them too 'cause I'm not quite right in the head. Or so they tell me. :)

Thanks dude. Yeah I'm toying with paying out but not the biggest fan of their metal models either, esp as they are core choices and therefore you need a few.
I did see the Tyranid Gargoyle Brood thingys, which I thought could be quite similar, and was wondering how easy they would be to convert? I was thinking of buying the Deamons of Chaos battle force pack and using something from there (mainly to help lose the guns).
However I'm a complete newbie and don't even trust myself to glue properly let alone do a conversion. How easy would something like that be for a noob?

One really easy thing to do is to buy Daemonettes or Ghouls and some Tyranid Gargoyle wings. Simply replace the models' arms with the wings and viola! Furies.

Well converting plastic stuff is easier than metal, at any rate. I think with conversions in general the level of difficulty are set to a large degree by your own standards.
I agree by the way that the GW Furies arn't exactly inspiring as far as models go. And gluing their wings is a whole little challange all by itself now that I think of it.
I think you should go for it if you have a clear vision of what you want to accomplish. After that it should be mostly a matter of effort (and trial and error if you're all new to it).
Oh, and hopefully other peeps will be by soon to give you better advice than I am capable of. This isn't exactly my field.
edit
Like Noisy Assassin.. for example.. *lol*

No, thanks I really appreciate your help and suggestions.

Another silly question: Can you get the Tyranid Gargoyle wings without buying the complete Tyranid Gargoyle Brood box?

Check eBay. Sellers like Hoard of Bits usually have them. They'll often go for around $10-15 for a set, which while high for bits, is still cheaper than buying the whole Gargoyle box (or the metal Furies!)

I feel like the Gargoyle Wings will be too big, I run Tyranids for 40k so I have both Furies and Gargoyles. The Gargoyle wings are about twice the size of fury wings.

An example can be seen
here. Obviously, this one is taken a little further with the elevated rods, but the general idea is easy to use. I've seen others as well that look even better. It's definitely a viable option.

I use them mostly as redirectors. I use the GW models. Back in the day when you could buy them by the box I ended up with 30 models.

You could also get harpies and just put them on bit bigger bases and paint them differently. Would work ok too.
