Title: Alternative daemon models

Talonz - February 7, 2012 08:23 AM (GMT)
Other forums have a good pinned collection of alternative models found by their members....and im having feverish thoughts on another daemonic army...where are all the alternative daemon models?!

***As per kitsune's request, direct all discussion of models posted herein to this thread.***

For a start; check out the Heresy miniatures demons line, and in particular their blights/plaguebearers

Hey, and they've got this guy now!! *lol*

Heresy has revamped their page too. And added quite a few things I didn't see before.

Those Plaguebearers are nice. I wonder why GW lets them get away with it honestly.. :D

LAV-Kitsune- - February 7, 2012 09:40 AM (GMT)
Post is pinned, as there has indeed been tons of alternative model suggestions on several topics especially by FatherKnowsBest. Lets post all our models on this thread so everyone can easily find alternatives.

When you post, keep it simple. Post picture, manufacturer, possible web site and price. Lets leave comments to some other thread so that this thread will be easy to read =)

Thanks kits!

Next, Ultraforge line of greater daemons, which seems to be divided into first run and second run models....not sure if there are size differences or not, as several GDs get duplicated across or within the same run.

example from their demon lords line;

and one from their more costly great daemons line;

Best Fiend out there in my opinion. I love using them:

Note: Great miniature, but horribly designed to go together and I highly recommend pinning all appendages well.

haha go father go!

Father has posted some examples of one of my favorite line of models, Helldorado. Cipher studios currently has the NA rights to that french game iirc, and they do a demon specefic range but also check out the other helldorado ranges, the immortals and the lost have some good options. Imo the model images are somewhat deceptive, the models may not be as big as they appear, but are finely detailed.

some of my faves;

le grouillant (wormpile) dp of nurgle?
user posted image

and vorenus, dp of tzeentch?

user posted image

I have these 2 models if you have questions about them.

Another one I really liked, la gourmandise, a beast of nurgle/DP perhaps?

You could also check out ciphers line of anima tactics models, individual and very characterful models with a slight anima influence.

I am very unsure of scale though, they may be too big to be heralds, but too small to be anything else, I dont know, ive looked at many but havnt invested in one.

example, somewhat hellraiserish;
user posted image

i wonder if their fire demon would make a good alt flamer?
user posted image

price varies from 10 to 30$ /model, so size may even vary amongst them, I do not know.

Now this is a hard line of miniatures to find, the french Rackham company Confronation miniatures. I have a number of their models and love them. They are largely oop so good luck finding them, but Legacy miniatures is rereleasing some of them, which can be found in the CMON store.

perhaps the hottest current example is Belial, a monstrously sized keeper of secrets alt model, I have one and love it;

user posted image

Ive seen dirz tigers used as fleshounds, great models. Impossible to find now though (although as Legacy apparently has the rights to the entire Rackham catalog, there is hope!);

Female bloodthirster anyone?! (very tempted by this one myself!) about 54mm apparently, so perhaps not full on GD size...a good display base to add height might help;

Nalach, the dark shadow

the Kingdom Death Wet Nurse is one example of the disturbing models that company can make....a GUO in a slaanesh themed army perhaps?

oop but may be back at some point (it has once already).

Of course for true independent miniature making, you should check out Trollforged line of demons, including these;

Dont forget the old veteran of minis, Reaper miniatures. Use their Figure Finder to browse directly for demons or whatever you can think of. You will need to check carefully for scale and basing may require some work as some are quite varied in size and may come with presculpted oldschool basing. But pricing is often very good if not unbeatable.

examples I like;

vulture demon (tzeentch dp? herald? dunno...)

darkspawn ice demon (nurgle herald?)

mastema (slaanesh herald?)

Gamezone Miniatures is a spanish company that is known to cater directly to the WFB audience. Their actual home site is down but their catalog can be found at a german site (among others), and for our purposes an entire range of slaaneshi alternatives , including my favorite;

adalid, herald of slaanesh? (or khorne in a female themed army...hmmmm I think I need her! :P )

Trying to replicate a Cthulhu based army?

Try RAFM's line of Call of Cthulhu miniatures

or EM4 minis line of wacky stuff

and if money and tablespace is no option, go all out on one of SOTA toys nightmares line!

unfortunately Cthulhu himself and all of the affordable toy versions are long sold out ...if someone finds the toy version of Dagon...let me know....

Cavalcade wargames has recently aquired Dragonblood miniatures, which make some fine models. And if you are into tentacles or shellfish creatures or both, you should check out their Dark Mariners line....

Although Ive been trying to keep manufacturers on one page, this really deserves its own post...the Heresy hellhounds are simply amazing I think, best alt fleshounds out there if you dont like the gw look and arent after anything specefic to fit an army concept;

user posted image

Sherlock, fit these guys into your Hell army? :unsure: :P

Talonz - February 7, 2012 09:01 PM (GMT)
Speaking of generic otherworldly creatures, I really like these models. If they were plastic and cheaper, id be all over them! As is, 3.75 after currency conversion for a single rank and file trooper is more expensive than GW!

Eureka minis Demons
(note both versions shown, they can come armed or unarmed)

I have a Tzeentch DP/LoC alternative, I'm trying to recall the range...

I just found the box. Clan War Elemental Terrors, it was the Air one (the Earth one came in the box as well). I don't think this range is still in production and I can't find a pic of the figs themselves online. I did find the illustration below which was on the box cover.

Good call! I tend to think of Oni in terms of my old ogre army, so forgot how they could be the basis of a 'japanese' demon army.

Clan War models have been picked up again and their shadowlands line could fit the bill.

examples;

Oni no kamu

and even a comical horror champion perhaps?

certainly some wilder ones exist in the gallery given above!
