Title: Hobby 'Pocalypse: LA Battle Bunker
Description: August 27th/28th
theDarkGeneral - September 5, 2011 05:45 PM (GMT)
About a week and a few days ago my group (SoCal Crusaders) and I helped run the first ever Hobby 'Pocalypse Event out of the LA Battle Bunker. It was a 36 hour gaming session, very similar to Games Day set up! There were speed painting contests, iron man painting contests, regular painting contests, RTTs and of course some Mega-Battles!
We were in charge of the first day's Mega-Battles which started from 11:am and lasted 'til 12am (midnight)! I had my buddy Dave run the 40K Mega-Apocalypse Game while I ran the Fantasy Storm of Magic Legendary Battle. There were nine 8'x4' tables used for the Mega-Apocalypse Battle, and I had three 8'x4' tables for the Fantasy Storm of Magic Legendary Battle!!!
There was much confusion on the Fantasy side of things as to how many points players could field, and thus only a few showed up...originally the staff at the Bunker advertised it as 2,000pts plus 500pts of Storm of Magic... ...I of course allowed players to field their entire collections!!!
As we were setting up, I lent my buddy Dave (a fellow dedicated Khorne Legion player) a portion of my 40K Army: 1 Chaos Warhound Titan, 3 Cauldrons of Blood, 2 Cannons of Khorne, 1 Shadowsword, 1 Felblade, 1 Stormlord, 4 Bloodthristers, 4 Daemon Princes, 16 Chaos Dreadnoughts, 256 Khorne Terminators, and a few HQ Lords here and there.
For the Fantasy side of things, I had some GREAT guys show up and play! One of which included a long time gaming buddy/opponent in Ron McLaughlin who like myself has played since the dawn of time it seems! He has several, several Armies all of which he has a large count in, but he opted for his Vampire Counts for this battle, so about 10,000pts of VC hit the table on my far Left!!! Next to him another VC player showed up with about 5,000pts. Next up, holding the center of the board was a Chaos Warriors player who also had around 5,000pts, and supporting him on his left (my Right) was a 2,000pt Dwarf player. My far Right saw a large Lizardman Army that hovered around 5,000pts and anchoring his left (again, my Right) was a large Empire Army which was around 8,000pts!!!!
So as players showed up and deployed i was still helping out with the 40K Mega-Apocalypse Battle, and was directing players that showed up late where to deploy and the basic rules modifications for the game. The game ended up Khorne Legions at first versus everyone else, but as more and more Eldar and Marines and a few Orks and Imperial Guard players showed up, without my full Khorne Legion to aid Dave and Tom (another dedicated Khorne player) we pulled the Chaos players that showed up to by our Allies and support our Rear battles!
Now my Fantasy Army collection is still more points than my 40K Apoc Army (which surprises everyone), so i just deployed models/units to counter my opponents deployments points wise. I faced about 30,000pts (plus Storm of Magic) of foes, and happily deployed accordingly!
I set up both my War Mammoths, my Exalted Greater Daemon of Khorne (An'ggrath), the Greater Chaos Spawn and Giant Chaos Spined Beast on my Left along with 2 units of 16 Khorne Knights, 4 units of 16 Khorne Warriors, and 2 units of 16 Bloodletters. The middle i plopped down 3 units of 8 Bloodcrushers, and 5 units of 4 Bloodcrushers, 4 units of 16 Bloodletters, 2 units of 16 Khorne Warriors, 2 units of 16 Khorne Knights, 4 units of 24 Gors, 4 units of 24 Bestigors, 5 units of 4 Dragon Ogres. My right was protected by 1 unit of 24 Minos w/Great Wpns, 1 unit of 24 Minos w/Xtra Wpns, and 2 units of 4 Minos w/Shields, 2 units of 16 Khorne Knights, 1 unit of 24 Khorne Knights, 3 units of 24 Ungors, 5 Tuskgor Chariots, 1 unit of 8 Flesh Hounds, 2 units of 16 Gors and 2 units of 16 Bestigors.
Through out the battle field I had 16 Bloodthirsters and 12 Khorne Daemon Princes flying around, along with a few other characters here and there. NO Sorcerers, NO Mages, NO Shamans!!!

http://z2.invisionfree.com/herdstone/index...showtopic=23514Ok, as usual I don't have a lot of free time so I'll point out some key battles that happened!
* Exalted Bloodthirster (An'ggrath) slayed 2 Vampire lords and a full unit of 10 Black Knights in 2 rounds of combat. He then went on to combo charge (w/2 other Bloodthirsters) a large block of 30+ Skeletons w/Spears and a Vamp and a Wight King. Combat lasted 1 turn!!! Then my Exalted Bloodthirster went toe to toe with Archaon the Everchosen, and after 3 full rounds of Combat slayed him. He only took one wound all game!!! KHORNE WILLS IT!!!!
*Chaos War Mammoths Yell and Ball, defeating a large Spirit Host unit (one Mammoth takes 3 wounds), then counter charge from Khorne Knights helps free them up! They go on to steam roll 2 full units of 30 Graveguard!!!
*Chaos Khorne Knights are an excellent fight for Bloodknights!!! Had several 15 vs my 16 battles! Chaos Knights came out on top!
*3 Steam Tanks crashed into my large unit of 24 Minos w/Great Weapons, a Doombull and Gorebull BSB...a 4th Steam Tank joined in, as well as a Giant, and the 30th Annivesary White Dwarf/Josef Bugman/Gotrek model!!! At the end of Turn 4, 2 Steam Tanks were destroyed, the other 2 each had 2 wounds left, and only my Gorebull BSB and 4 other Minos w/Grt Wpns stood! Crazy, massive combats!!!
*That damn crazy 30th Anniversary White Dwarf combo model slayed a Bloodthirster, a Chaos Lord of Khorne, 8 Khorne Chaos Knights, a Doombull and 3 Minos w/Great Weapons before I finally slayed him!!! Guess it's the first time that model has died when those players use him! KHORNE WILLS IT!!!!
*My Harpies from scrolls of binding were charged by Kroqar and his mount Grimloq...they inflicted 6 poisoned wounds which 2 got through and 1 killing blow on Kroqar which he failed to save!!!! Harpies held off Grimloq for 2 more rounds of combat...definitely MVPs!!!
*Doombull w/25 Minos w/Xtra Wpns slayed the Red Emperor Dragon, and went on to slay 2 Great Dragons, a Zoat and the Empire's gunline!!!
*24 Khorne Chaos Knights cut down 36 Temple Guard w/Slaan in 3 rounds of Combat!!!
*My opponents Chosen Khorne Warriors w/Lord and BSB crushed 2 units of my Dragon Ogres, 2 Shaggoths and a full unit of Bloodletters before I was able to defeat them!
*Dwarf player hammered me hard with shooting, popping a unit of Chaos Ogres and Chaos Trolls, before another unit of 8 Chaos Ogres made it to his gun line.
I have many, many thoughts and assessments now after the battle and the dust has cleared...I eagerly continue to build and paint my Army and prepare for the next big battle!

Cool...
.. All though I'm personally too anti-social for gatherings like that.
Would have been great to see a more cohesive report of the battle that you take those epic examples from. But yeah.. I get it, writing that up would take as much time as actually playing it.
Great stuff! Especially intrigued on the subject of those 4(!) Steamtanks getting creamed like that.. Did they load too many Steampoints or what? Wouldn't have guessed they would just die like that..

Well, I got the first turn, so I marched up my units to full distance, goading them to take the Turn 1 charges. He sent in 3 of his 4 Steam Tanks and crashed into my Minos w/Grt Wpns, Doombull +3 strength, Mino BSB...I lost the first round of Close Combat because 15 wounds later I was missing 5 Minos! LOL! But stupid Steadfast rule kept me around. Starting top of Turn 2, I was able to get a few wounds on each of the Steam Tanks, as Monstrous Infantry get a lot of supporting attacks! I know I was looking for '6s', but you roll enough dice and you'll get some. And Strength 7 hits means -4 Armor Saves, the Steam Tanks were forced to eat wounds quickly...so I win Combat, Frenzied, and I keep winning Combat regardless of what he through at me, so the Minos kept getting additional +1 Attacks! At the end to Turn 4 when we called the game, each regualr Mino had base 3 attacks, +1 for Frenzy, and +6 for their all the won combats...thus 10 Attacks each from the front models (or sides) and 3 supporting attacks!

That's funny I remember reading about those "compounding attack bonuses" for Minos in the White Dwarf around the time of the new Beastie-book - thinking it was a pretty damn nice ability to have for them. Still, beating down 4 Stanks like that... Man the look on the 'other guy's' face must have been priceless.
And since I'm not at home with Beastmen, really, I'll just assume that whatever kind of Frenzy you had on them they didn't lose it for being defeated (in combat) on the turn when the Stanks charged. Stupid question, I know..
And wow.. man.. 16 BTs ey.. If they're all coming from your private collection then my 30k of Daemons suddenly feels like a friggin noobish project really.. *lol*
theDarkGeneral - September 12, 2011 03:29 AM (GMT)
 I did indeed loose close combat the first round, but with the lame "steadfast" rule in effect, my Minos were able to test on an unmodified 8. They won Combat every other round after! As for Daemons, just for numbers count, I have 40 Chaos Furies, 234 Bloodletters, 72 Flesh Hounds, 72 Bloodcrushers, 25 Khornate Daemon Princes, and 25 Bloodthirsters, plus 2 Heralds, 3x Skulltakers, Uraka the Warfiend, and An'ggrath the Unbound...
