Title: First Battle, 1100 Army List Help
dleeayr - August 14, 2011 07:50 AM (GMT)
I'm due to have my first ever battle tomorrow and am looking for a little advice on my army list. I have already had some great advice in another post for a rough idea on a 1000pt army.
I have now bought 40 Bloodletters, 20 Horrors, 6 Flamers and a Herald of Tzeentch, my friend has asked for a 1100pt limit for out first battle, which means I'll have to tweak my list a bit.
Here's what I was thinking of taking into my first battle, but I'm not sure if the unit sizes ect will be the most efective, so any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated.
Herald of Tzeentch (Master of Sorcerey, Winged Horror) 160
20 Bloodletters FC (Icon of Endless War) 295
20 Bloodletters FC (Skull Totem) 295
10 Horrors FC (Banner of Change) 175
10 Horrors FC (Icon of Sorcery) 165
3 Flammers 105
This comes to 1195 (which i'm sure my friend will allow)
It leaves me with 3 unused flamers, I'm open to any idea's, not sure if i'd be better with one unit of 20 horrors or dropping a unit of horrors and brining in other 3 flamers.
I'm not sure of all the rules yet, so if there's anything in my list that I shouldnt be using then just let me know please.
Thanks for your time all (again) :D
My friends using Vampire Counts, if that helps ;-)

Combine letters and horrors to a single unit and keep endless war icon and which ever icon you prefer on horrors. That will save you atleast 100pts and get you to the points limit that you agreed. Bigger units are usually better for points denial and magical buffs scale better on them, too so you will likely want to keep fighting units big. If you would drop the wings and put the herald on horror block you could get 4th flamer too to help you.

So, that would be a unit of 40 Bloodletters, a unit of 20 horror's?
And put the herald in the horror's unit?
I had thought about making a large unit of bloodletters like that, but thought I would stuggle with less units, though from what I can gather i'm guessing a unit of 40 letters woulld be pretty hard to beat?
Thanks so much for your help again

What we lack in number of units, we take back in quality. Letters can somehow work in smaller units, but horrors really need that bigger unit as it gives them more spells and magic levels and since magic is what they are all about, numbers are quite needed.
Bloodletters are both good points denial and strong fighters in big units. With some lore of light buffs (or which ever you choose) they are kind of point and click unit. They just go and massacre everything =P

Just wondering, not to be mean, but why don't you play a 1200pt game if your army is 1195? To me it seems that ~100pts extra is just a small small bit too much. Other than that I'm new so I won't be of help sorry.

That is a good question Hivetyrant, dont feel shy about it =) As it appears Dleeayr has just started playing daemons but his friend has already played for some time, so he will likely have that extra 100pts so you could actually play with army that you like.

Hi, Sorry. I havenít been able to log in and reply in a while, wasnít being rude.
Not a mean question at all hivetyrant, the reason the points limit was set at 1100 is because my friend's VC army totals 1100 and he can't really afford to increase it just now. A 1200 limit would have suited me better, but I'm happy using anything really to get a grasp of the rules.
We had our battle, and roughly going with kitsune's advice I used a unit of 40 letters, 15 horrors, 6 flamers and my herald of tzeentch. I got off to a good start, but he managed to hit my letters with a powerfull spell (canít remember the name) that wiped more and more of my bloodletters each turn. By end of the game I had about 15 bloodletters left and he had some bloodknights, so we decided to call it a draw :)
With the advice and after playing my first game and having another good read of the Deamon rules I have a good idea of the direction Iím going now.
Thanks again for all the help Kitsune. It's refreshing to find a forum with excellent members that genuinely help and doesn't flame and criticize beginners asking questions all the time.

Sounds like you had good times there. For future, the spell he was using was curse of years. On first turn it would deal about 3,33 kills on 40 Bloodletters, as they get the magic resistance 4+ ward against it. Next turn it would deal 6,67 wounds but you would have chance to dispell it there. It is normal remains in play spell, so you could have just used 2-3 dice to remove it =)

Yeah was good, that was the spell yep. As we both weren't really up to speed on the rules, We didnt know it could have been dispelled at all (well he claims he didnt know! :D ), we did discover that later on though, so will know if he lucks out and gets it again :P
I'm thinking of dropping some letters and investing in some daemonettes to mix it up a little, so will probably be asking for some more advice soon!
