Title: 2000 points list for league play
Zechs - July 5, 2011 01:55 AM (GMT)
I'm considering taking part in a local 2000 point league which is set to start sometime in the coming weeks. While we are allowed to use proxies if at the end of the league the army isn't fully modeled and painted this will result in disqualification (though at the moment since there are no prizes announced, I've no idea what this'd really mean).
I have here a 2000 point list I've made based on the daemon models I intend to acquire over time. First part is models I already have, assembled or not (see here). Second part is models I intend to purchase.
2 Heralds of Tzeentch in chariots w We Are Legion, Master of Sorcery and Bolt of Tzeentch
2x 9 Horrors
4 Screamers
15 Bloodletters w Fury of Khorne
15 Daemonettes w Transfixing Gaze
6 Fiends of Slaanesh w Unholy Might
6 Bloodcrushers of Khorne w Fury of Khorne & Instrument of Chaos
Herald of Slaanesh in chariot, w Unholy Might, Soporific Musk & Transfixing Gaze
8 Seekers of Slaanesh w Transfixing Gaze
4 Flamers of Tzeentch
8 Flesh Hounds
Total is 1996. As extra models to that list I'll have a Khorne Spawn (usable as prince), a Tzeentch Spawn (also usable as prince), 4 more Bloodletters, 1 more daemonette, 1 daemonette riding a boobworm (not sure what to use it as), the Changeling, a Khorne Herald on foot and hopefully 2-3 hounds (plan is to get about 10 and Karanak who can be use as a regular hound).
Now, as I've mentioned the list is based on models I'll own. I know Seekers, Hounds and Daemonettes aren't exactly the most competitive choices, but I don't really have anything else to take into the list, since Nurgle daemons won't make it into my collection for quite a while. How do you think this list would do? I'm kind of worried about opening up transports for my troops to kill in the same turn (otherwise I have Fiends, Hounds and Screamers to charge and open them up in the assault phase). Not a fan of bolts on Horror units, as with a BS of 3 I'll miss most of the time. I'd take a Tzeentch Prince but this means dropping a unit (probably seekers and a couple of hounds) and I kinda like their big threat range. I like the fact that I have many drops though, and I think I'll do pretty well in combat vs virtually anything, from Orks & nids to marines of all sorts. I don't have a lot of first hand experience with daemons in 40k though, so I'd really like to hear what you all think, both for the army list as well as advice on its usage.

OK, staring at the list a bit longer I decided to do away with the Hounds. I love the models but they won't be much use I reckon and I believe more anti-tank will really benefit me. So I dropped them, I also dropped a few gifts and a daemonette to make the prince fit in. Also note no named characters are allowed, I forgot to mention this part earlier.
So the list is now as follows:
2 Heralds of Tzeentch in chariots w We Are Legion, Master of Sorcery & Bolt of Tzeentch
2x9 Horrors
4 Screamers
4 Flamers
Daemon Prince of Tzeentch w Bolt of Tzeentch & Daemonic Gaze
15 Bloodletters
6 Bloodcrushers w Fury of Khorne
Herald of Slaanesh in chariot w Unholy Might, Soporific Musk & Transfixing Gaze
14 Daemonettes
8 Seekers of Slaanesh
6 Fiends w Unholy Might
Total is 1997. If I'm allowed to go up to 2002 I'd add transfixing gaze to seekers or daemonettes...
Thoughts? Anyone?

I would remove a fiends to make room for the Herald of S in that unit keeps it alive longer. I wouldnīt take the DP becase he would be the first and only viable target for the enemy in this list making his life very short and expensive!
Fiends and crushers, Seekers and Daemonettes have a chance on most AV with their rending +D3 since hits in C.C on AV are on the rear armor. Daemonettes work best when having 2 units since they will most likly be very desimated before reaching their target (try to have them assault to the same target). hounds are good for the first assault and tieing the enemy down, they never (to me anyway) survive a hole game but they do their job well being fast and rather cheap as fast units goes.
I like the list, lots of good units, fast, hard hitting and with no caracters CD have a good chance to shine! As always CD needs to be aggressive and ferse in our DS. I would drop the Bletters and Daemonettes secound wave getting all shooting first wave even the screamers, take the changling best 5p in the CD list xept for flies IMO! An Icon would be ok for getting them close to where the need to be, in the middle of it! Take an icon with the crushers making one more alocat itīs wounds.
HQ
2 Heralds of Tz in chariots w We Are Legion, Master of Sorcery and Bolt of Tzeentch
1 Herald of Slaanesh in chariot, w Unholy Might, Soporific Musk & Transfixing Gaze
Elite
6 Bloodcrushers of Khorne w Fury of Khorne, icon & Instrument
5 Fiends of Slaanesh w Unholy Might, Herald of S
4 Flamers of Tzeentch
Troops
2x 9 Horrors
15 Bloodletters w Fury of Khorne
15 Daemonettes w Transfixing Gaze
15 Daemonettes w Transfixing Gaze
Fast attack
8 Seekers of Slaanesh w Transfixing Gaze
Wave one
Chariots of Tz
Crushers
Horrors x2
Seekers
Wave two
Daemonettes x2
Bletters
Fiends
Flamers
Donīt be overly aggressive with the crushers since you need its icon. Make sure it gets in good by round 2 and the unleash hell. Icon with flamers make them very deadly so also with our squishy C.C troops! Make Horrors and seekers prime targets in the enemys first shooting taking presure of the crushers and then itīs easy cleaning from there on! =) Good luck

Cheers for the reply. Some very interesting thoughts there.
Actually I decided to withhold from participating as it was essentially turned into a cup format, split into two groups, so essentially it's just a couple of matches more than a tournament. That and only two prizes, of which one is awarded randomly means I'm just going to have regular games vs folks.
Yes, the Changeling is nice and I would take him, but the league had named characters banned. Otherwise I'd also take Skulltaker. Played with him today in a horde of Bloodletters and they munched through Blood Angels like they were candy, including Mephiston (dead to Skulltaker :D).
The Slaanesh Herald can't join units, as once it gets a chariot it no longer has the Independent Character special rule.
Oh, and you're pretty right about the icon, I oughta get one in the first wave. Not yet sure if I'll want the crushers dropping in first though, but I will definitely try it at least a couple of times. All I know right now is that I want in the first turn is the shooty stuff, including the prince that gives me a relatively reliable Bolt (and if he's shot, something else isn't).
Will have to chew on this for a while, thanks for all the suggestions!

Darn on the Heralds on chariot, would be nice otherwise. I often drop crushers wave one and fine they take a beting but least half survive and I have my icon for wave two.
Skulltaker is supernice on jugger aswell. Love his 4+ insta death! Have personally had big problems playing DPs, SGs and Tz Heralds on chariot. For some reason they get shoot to hell straight away. I mostly play a little vanilla leaving out those units and going for number instead. Have been working superb for last handfull of games. Resently bought 30 daemonettes to make a Skarbrand/Slaanesh list. On paper it fells like a versetile (sry on the spelling) and viable list and I canīt whait till fall to try it out! No many games play in the summertime where I am at =(
Hope that some of my thoughts where helpful =D

I initially set out into daemons trying to build an undivided list with models for every god, including a Herald for each. Now I'm just limiting myself to heralds in general to keep point costs low for HQ. I would like to get some greater daemons in the long term but I can't exactly afford them right now and I'm not too happy with the old metal models anyway.
Tzeentch Heralds are cool and cheap, I think. 110 for 5 Wounds that zip around like jetbikes, I just try to keep them out of sight or out of range from most of the enemy army and they survive more often than not (or, rather, one of them generally does). Just don't let them get into rapid fire range...

Do get greater daemons, they ARE great. Love GuO and KuGath. Think that all but those two models look like #Ī&Ī. Buy other models and replace the original. Balrog for skrabrand/thirster is excellent and plastic! Keeper and LoC is ok but just. IMO of course. Sure they cost a chunk of points but they bring the pain and get their foes.
