Title: Khorne 1850 need help
Insidious - June 13, 2011 11:57 AM (GMT)
I'm new to The Daemonic Legion. So bare with my stupidity if you can.
Alright so I'm new to Chaos of Daemons, and the major reason i picked them is because alot of the guys I play with are doing Grey Knights. Now I picked these guys becuase I wanted to show up the Grey Knights, not a marine fan, and when I looked through the Daemon book I saw some potential in Khorne simply becuase of the Blessing of the Blood God. I gathered an army up and play tested them against a Space Wolf player and a Grey Knight Player yesterday.
Here is my list
HQ:
BloodThirster: Blessing of the Blood God, Unholy Might-275
Herald of Khorne: Blessing of the Blood God, Chariot of Khorne-90
Herald of Khorne: Blessing of the Blood God, Chariot of Khorne, Chaos Icon-115
Troops:
X8 Bloodletters of Khorne: Chaos Icon-153
X8 Bloodletters of Khorne: Chaos Icon-153
X8 Bloodletters of Khorne: 128
X8 Bloodletters of Khorne: 128
X8 Bloodletters of Khorne: 128
Heavy Support:
Daemon Prince of Khorne: Daemonic Flight, Iron Hide, Unholy Might, Mark of Khorne, Blessing of the Blood God, Death Strike-235
Daemon Prince of Khorne: Daemonic Flight, Iron Hide, Unholy Might, Mark of Khorne, Blessing of the Blood God, Death Strike-235
Daemon Prince of Khorne: Daemonic Flight, Iron Hide, Unholy Might, Mark of Khorne, Blessing of the Blood God, Death Strike-235
It performed against the Wolves decently (draw). And got destroyed against the Grey Knight player.(the Grey Knight game I felt to be not a good example of the armies full potential as alot of things went wrong, Deepstrike mishaps, Army B came in, etc....)
Flaws: Major flaws I saw were in the Princes as they just seemed to just drop dead quickly to enemy fire. I need more Icons(at least 2). And I need fire support so that I can eliminate huge threats.
I was thinking of adding in some Flamers and Soul grinders by dropping the Daemon Princes.
Before I do anything I would like to hear some opinions. Thanks.

First try and learn to play without icons, thats 75pts there just tied up because you are scared of scatter. I am not saying remove them entirely, im saying learn to not rely on them.
Second please read the Daemon prince tactica about your 3 heavy support choices. They are very very expecive at the moment, and IMO over tooled.

Doing mono god is cool and looks very god on a table but is mostly rubbish IMO. Only mono build I like is an Epidemius list (Nurgle) works great as long as you can reach the enemy! Daemons are great but all four gods need to work together to get the most out of any list. Do as gibious says and read the DP tactica, your DPs are easy to kill and SO overpriced!
Plaguebearers are the best objective holders in 40K, they are durable as hell and swing a mean punch. They are great at tar pit missions and can really tie a unit up for rounds.
Fiends are as fast as they come (fleet) and pack a mean punch with high initiative, rending so they can do bad things with AVs and any units with lover initiative.
Crushers are slow but really mean, hard to kill and kills the enemy easy enough. Powerweapons, good on AV, good for absorbing shots.
Heralds on chariots with Tzeentch are great as long as they donīt charge or get charged!
Horrors are one of few shooting units and they can only carrie one bolt/ unit(with lousy BS) take units of 5 if the game is not killpoints. The changling is a must always, remember that. =)
Soulgrinders or DPs are still debated and you can read plenty on the forum about the matter and make up your own mind. But generally it is said that SGs in lower points and count on them not being long lived, the high the points the more melta they bring!
Some quick tips from my experience bank. But above all play whats fun! And playing knights flesh hounds are very good to have as are all units with blessing of the blood god. Good luck and keep in touch =)

Thanks everyone for your comments. I did have a chance to play with the Mono-Khorne Daemon theme again yesterday against a Space Wolf player.
I tinkered with my previous list and this is the one I used for the game yesterday.
1850 X17 Daemons of Khorne
HQ:
BloodThirster: Blessing of the Blood God, Unholy Might-275
Herald of Khorne: Blessing of the Blood God, Juggernaut of Khorne, -105
Herald of Khorne: Blessing of the Blood God, Chariot of Khorne, Chaos Icon,-115
Elites:
X5 BloodCrushers: Chaos Icon, Fury of Khorne, Instrument of Chaos 215
Troops:
X15 Bloodletters of Khorne: Chaos Icon-265
X15 Bloodletters of Khorne: Chaos Icon-265
Heavy Support:
Daemon Prince of Khorne: Flight, Iron Hide, Mark of Khorne, Blessing of the
Blood God-195
Daemon Prince of Khorne: Flight, Iron Hide, Mark of Khorne, Blessing of the Blood God-195
Daemon Prince of Khorne: Flight, Iron Hide, Mark of Khorne, Blessing of the Blood God-195
This list did far better than my original. I won the game with a majority of my army still intact, and felt that the addition of Crushers, and changing a chariot to a crusher was a huge difference.
Also the units of 15 Bloodletters performed brilliantly. The enemy was so transfixed by the other monsters that he left minimal small arm fire to deal with them. Letting them go from unit to unit.
The addition the Icons worked as well.
I don't know what do you guys think are the Daemon Princes still worth too much? I was thinking about dropping one for Flesh hounds.
So I just wanted to know if I am willing to play a Mono Khorne army; am I on the rght track or am I just waisting my time?
Thanks.

Nice to hear about your win! 14-16 is a prime number for Bletters as they need to be in numbers in C.C.
I have a max limit on DPs at 220p but try to hav them under 200 most of the time. Mainly nurgle that I alove to go above 200p.
Chariot of Khorne is a wast and would be better to have hound instead. I would remove unholy might from the thirster as well as those points rarly make the difference in C.C. Blessing of the blood god is good when meating Grey knights and other big psykers but completly worthless otherwise. Remove blood from the list and you will have more points to your hounds squad. Bring Karanak with your hound, well wort it as some of his powers goes over to the unit.
3 icons is on the heavy side. Even 2 in my book. =)
Donīt forget that you should play for fun, and if you like playing mono lists then do it.

Alright tinkering around with what you said and from my personal experience this is what I've come up with.
1850 X17 Daemons of Khorne
HQ:
BloodThirster: Blessing of the Blood God, Instrument of Chaos -255(Took away Unholy Might here, I had 5 pts left over so I gave him a musician)
Herald of Khorne: Blessing of the Blood God, Juggernaut of Khorne, -105
Herald of Khorne: Blessing of the Blood God, Chariot of Khorne,-90 (Took Away the Icon here, and the reason i kept him is because I don't think he's that bad and I have a really nice forgeworld model for this model)
Elites:
X5 BloodCrushers: Chaos Icon, Fury of Khorne, Instrument of Chaos 215
Troops:
X15 Bloodletters of Khorne: Chaos Icon-265
X15 Bloodletters of Khorne: Chaos Icon-265
Fast Attack:
X15 Flesh Hounds of Khorne: Karanak-260 ( I found points in my Daemon princes to add these guys in.)
Heavy Support:
Daemon Prince: Iron Hide, Daemonic Gaze-130
Daemon Prince: Iron Hide, Daemonic Gaze-130
Daemon Prince: Iron Hide, Daemonic Gaze-130
After looking at my Princes I still considered them to be overpriced for their task out hand. So I just decided to dump wings, which is alot of points for something that nessecarily is not worth the points, along with MoK and BotBG. I added in Daemonic Gaze becaue I feel as though this will give me an edge when fighting Grey Knights and another marines, (2+ to hit and 3s to wound no regular armour saves is a very nice edition) Heck if I can kill 6 Grey Knights from shooting these three in the turn they come in then that's worth it.
Lastly I just want to thank Chaos4Real_ for all your help.
What do you think?
