Title: We have a homepage!
Description: In case you missed it

Trogdor - July 5, 2005 11:40 PM (GMT)
Now, if for some reason you're not hanging on every word that comes out of the Proclamation of the Heralds section, you now have no excuse for not knowing this!!

We have a friggen home page now!!!! Even though it's been up for less than 2 days, I've stolen some oh so precious time away from studies to put up as much as I can on the site. Right now, it includes a pretty good tactics section, a good links section, the beginnings of a gallery (I know there are only my pics, but I have easy access to my own pics) and stuff like that.

Whew. It's actually really cool to see it comming together like that.

Check it out and let me know what you think!!!

Blood Acolyte - July 6, 2005 12:25 AM (GMT)
Not to bad. Maybe you could put the different gods symbols on the page also.

Trogdor - July 6, 2005 03:24 AM (GMT)
That's a good idea. I'd at least like to include their symbol in the tactics section next to each one. Have any little images that I could use on the site?

acolite, the enlightened - July 6, 2005 07:00 PM (GMT)
Nice!

If you want any Skaanesh Icons you've seen on CoD, then just ask.

I especially like the galleries, real quality!

That reminds me, Trog, I am updting CoD, so if you want your pics in the galleries, then please tell me.

Trogdor - July 6, 2005 07:12 PM (GMT)
And I do. I just need to get some time to resize all the pics to your specs and I'll send 'em over to you.

Thanks

acolite, the enlightened - July 6, 2005 07:56 PM (GMT)
Will there be a link to Figmenatia in the site?

Trogdor - July 6, 2005 08:45 PM (GMT)
LOL, you know about Figmentia? Sweet!!! I've been trying to find something that would work as a banner for us, but yeah, there will be a link for sure. I'd better share with everyone now. Here ya go peoples!! Another fun site for you.

kbolster12345 - July 6, 2005 11:02 PM (GMT)
That page looks really good! I will ahve to get some more pics of my army so you can add it to the gallery!

Good right ups on the tactica too.

Trogdor - July 7, 2005 05:05 AM (GMT)
Please do. If anyone wants something added to the gallery, just PM me or email me the pics and I'll work on it.

wyrmling_x - July 7, 2005 07:18 AM (GMT)
I'm thinking we should ditch the captions by the pics, unless you can work them under the thumbnails. They just take up a lot of space, is all. ;) Other than that, sweet "dealio" or whatever the kids are saying these days. Seriously nice work, function over form is the way to go (though it still looks good - it's just that there's way more to do than in my designs  ).

byshe the putrid - July 7, 2005 09:11 AM (GMT)
Good effort Trogdor! :D

I'll try to get some more stuff to contribute soon...

If anyone happens to know some HTML, please let me know how to do that. simply using a <br> drops everything after it and then you end up with just one pic on a line which is a terrible waste of space. My HTML skills are.....weak to say the least. The pro's and con's of a mostly templated website are that for someone who doesn't have a lot of time and knowledge, you can at least get something up, but when you do learn some new stuff, you're pretty limited by the template.

I definately would like people who have the knowledge and desire to help contribute to the site. Not only does it help when people submit their pics directly to me (that saves me so much time in legwork tracking down all your photos) but I would like to post up some hobby articles like painting and converting. If you happen to be one of these people who can contribute, please contact me!!

Setting up a table would solve all your problems. Gimme some time and I'll try to work one out for ya. ;)

Trogdor - July 8, 2005 02:46 PM (GMT)
That sounds great. If you want me to send over the code for how it's set up now, let me know and I'll shot it to you to mess around with.

There ya go Trogdor, that should more than suffice for a gallery table. It holds 4 rows of 4 thumbnails each. Thumbnail heights must be no more than 140 pix wide by 95 tall before you may distort the table, but even that shouldn't be a problem as it autofits the graphic, as long as you're using it for galleries it should do fine.

Little tips to go with this thing, the 1's are where you put the JPG thumbnail, and the 2's are where you put the text link. Every 1 lines up to meet the 2's positioned in the table data below. You may have to control the font size to size down links if needed.

My pleasure to help out,

Regards,

~ Loki

Excellent!! That's what I was looking for. I started looking at the stuff on W3schools.com for some tutorials and figured I'd mess with it "one day". This might help get it started on the road to looking a bit more professional (which it surely is not!)

Trogdor - July 13, 2005 08:42 PM (GMT)
Alright. Another update. I've since tabled everything in the galleries and man does it look better. I've also added a guestbook.

Notice to anyone with painting/converting/hobby skills!
I am currently looking for hobby articles for the hobby section of the website. Applicable topics inlcude painting, terrain making, converting, sculpting, drawing, and anything else that has to do with this great hobby.

Pictures are a huge plus! Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I'd love to have some pictures to go along with what you're sharing. WIP pics are important since nothing is more frustrating than seeing an article in White Dwarf where the model goes from unprimed to primed to basecoated to BAM! instant 'Eavy Meal Team paintjob. The magic is in the intermediate steps.

Also, please try to use correct grammar and spelling. I will help out where I can, but the less modification I have to do the better. I will worry about formatting the article on the webpage, but if you can get me the text and the pictures at the very least, that would be great.

Hopefully you've got something cool to show us. If you don't just yet, but are planning some amazing things, make sure to take notes and get those WIP pictures. PM or email me with what you've got. Thanks!

*This will also appear in its own topic as well in the announcements since it's buried kinda deep here.

Hey, I missed this thread.
Nice homepage there, Trogdor. And the image gallery looks great.

Nice to see that the asylum is already getting guests before it's even finished.

Trogdor - July 15, 2005 03:24 PM (GMT)
Ohhh, you didn't know I was doing the Homepage here? Your starting of the asylum inspired me to finally work on a homepage for the legion. Now that we have a banner over at the asylum I'm going to add them to the links page.

Trunks - August 1, 2005 12:30 AM (GMT)
I was just looking through the articles section. I think that it would be better, for organizational purposes, if there was either a section for each of the five demon legion types, or a list of the articles that you can click on (this is probably the best). Having them all on one page isn't very good for organizational purposes.

Trogdor - August 1, 2005 08:47 PM (GMT)
True. Our free page has some limits to it and as we grow I will turn the articles into links to go to other pages. Of course, that will happen when we have more articles than space. Keep submitting articles then!

Hey folks just an invite and a request to have folks advertise for the home page on other internet groups that you are on, and or as a link from your own personal website.

If you aren't using the signature feature on this or other groups - please give it a try - it's usually on your "user control panel."

Call me sleepy but i'm not fully understanding this....so in other words you are inviting people for links exchange with the DL? Or just asking for free advertising?

At any rate I think i'm asking in the right spot.... I'm curious how did you do the new homepage? Did you use Photoshop or a similar program to do image slices and table it back together? Looking at your source code that's my guess.... looks good at any rate.

Trogdor - December 14, 2005 01:23 AM (GMT)
Gary was talking about this. http://www.thedaemoniclegion.com/links.htm It's not asking for free advertising. It's simply a banner swap with a site we hold in esteem and would like to partner with. Of course, we ask that they do something similar to what we have.

I'm not 100% sure what you're asking on the homepage. Freewebs is our host and currently I use a lot of their templates to help lay out the site quickly and easily. Once I'm comfortable with CSS and we have things the way we want them, we may redo the look. If you want to know about something else, please let me know. Thanks for the comments.

Well then expect a PM from me soon...

Yeah, I was looking at the wrong source code when asking my questions. It seems I was looking at the COTEC new page, my bad, I should know better than to be looking at multiple source codes at once...

If you need CSS help, feel free to ask...

I read some Slaanesh articles, and found them brilliant, thanks whoever wrote them :)
