Title: New daemons: Fantasy or 40K ?

Sexy Beast - February 22, 2008 08:21 AM (GMT)
I thought it would be interesting to see what system the board members are going to play with the new daemons.

For myself I'm interested in the 40K side. Can't wait to get my hands on that soulgrinder.

danceman - February 22, 2008 09:02 AM (GMT)
Pure fantasy here. Main system amongs my friends as the majority think its the superior system(more FUN!).

Though might get the Soul Grinder for the sole purpose to model/paint it... and of course add some extra personal touches to it.

Khabuldashudeth - February 22, 2008 10:10 AM (GMT)
Fantasy for me, but that's because I've never been a fan of 40k.

And yes, I'm going to say it - I don't like the Soulgrinder B)

Azel - February 22, 2008 01:43 PM (GMT)
Both!

Why not eh? I got them all on Square bases but that just makes them bigger than the round bases 40k tends to use so there shouldn't be a problem. If there is just whack the person complaining, previous editions had all manner of square bases in 40k. and Bikes still have them :)

Kristov - February 22, 2008 02:43 PM (GMT)
Pure Fantasy for me too.

gjnoronh - February 22, 2008 03:54 PM (GMT)
I much prefer fantasy but the new daemonic spearhead is a good excuse to get into forty K a bit.

theDarkGeneral - February 22, 2008 04:54 PM (GMT)
I'm a pure Fantasy player at heart, but the Apocalypse games have me foaming at the mouth! So, I'll be bringing my Daemons to those games, as I can't wait to throw down 8 Bloodthirsters as Anngrath's bodyguard!!!

Time of Madness - February 22, 2008 05:16 PM (GMT)
This site has always focused more on the warhammer side. I am not a 40k player at all and have never been interested in it. However it is interesting seeing the 40K daemons being further developed and gives plenty of room to expand this site and the 40k sections.

Sacred Cow - February 22, 2008 07:00 PM (GMT)
I didn't know anyone still played 40k. Pure fantasy here as well.

bananaman - February 22, 2008 07:29 PM (GMT)
Both for me, I will use my WFB army as a 40k DL simple. As a previous poster said, it's no biggie as the 25mm sq is no problem in 40k really.

Vogon - February 22, 2008 07:41 PM (GMT)
Fantasy for me too. I don't even have the current 40K main rule book.

I'm really excited by this, as a long time Dark Elf player I liked the Cult of Slaanesh army with daemons and now they're getting their own book it's a natural progression for me (and a break from painting DE)

Cheers

Vogon

djshamrock71 - February 22, 2008 08:21 PM (GMT)
Fantasy.....but i am tempted in 40k(havenīt played 40k since first edition)

Naes - February 22, 2008 08:50 PM (GMT)
Fantasy! its the only way to go.

In 40k do some deamons have Guns! thats just , just not daemony (to me)

Azel - February 23, 2008 12:14 AM (GMT)
Il play 40k... 2nd ed 40k! :D

Back when Greater Daemons were really, really nasty!

FiendofSlaanesh - February 23, 2008 02:07 AM (GMT)
um.....40k, what is that...is that the game that if you go first you win. Or is that the game all the kids who have ADD play? Actually, i would love to play 40k but i dont have enough dice to roll, nor the patience to play someone who thinks that WHF is for old people.

So with that all said, i think i am just going to play daemons for WHF.

Qrab - February 23, 2008 04:12 AM (GMT)
I haven't played 40K since the end of 3rd edition. I haven't seen anything about the game that would entice me back.

Trogdor - February 23, 2008 10:44 AM (GMT)
It's been ages since I've played 40K but I do like the streamlined rules for movement, armour saves, etc. so the game goes faster. I would like to say I'm a "both" but 40K is only if I have time. The fantasy subject matter is just more interesting to me.

Beastlord Karankawa - February 23, 2008 09:02 PM (GMT)
Both - I try to squeeze every $ of value out of a model.

Sadistic Master - February 23, 2008 09:24 PM (GMT)
I've been tempted to play 40k for a long time, but never wanted to spend time and money for that game only. So an army that plays in both systems is my way to the 41st millenium! But I'll stick mainly to Fantasy.

ola - February 24, 2008 03:42 AM (GMT)
Fantasy, only.
Played 40K once, with Tyranids, cool army I fought, not so cool when the Imperialists first shooting phase was over. :( I guess daemons will work approx the same.

lokigod - February 24, 2008 04:08 AM (GMT)
hmm I will try 40k again with them and see if it's as boring as I remember...... Although I love painting tyranids and have quite a few never tried to play them because 40k is so much about the list and not skill to me.

PsychosisPC - February 27, 2008 10:22 PM (GMT)
Its hip to be square.

I lost interest in playing 40k when 4th edition came out. Still like the models, just don't play it.

Philfy - March 3, 2008 08:56 PM (GMT)
Fantasy only for me as well.

I "had" to learn to play 40K when a redshirt for GW NZ... I can see the appeal although at the time I found the models themselves (with the possible exception of Eldar) very unexciting. Whilst I think THAT aspect has improved a bit and enjoy reading the batreps in the dorf... it comes down to a time/money/overall interest thing. I'd be playing Flames Of War ahead of 40K.

Fantasy though - rulezzzzzzzzzzz

Azel - March 4, 2008 12:29 AM (GMT)
Doesn't seem to be all together that much love for 40k. Guess i can understand people not being into the gaming system too much but for me the main thing that drew me into the 40k universe was the incredible background. How about everyone else? Do you just feel unattached to the entirety of 40k from its story to the models and the gaming system or is it just the game that puts you off?

GreyArea - March 4, 2008 01:01 AM (GMT)
The game rules and the 'GW Fanboys' that piss me off with 40k. The rules I don't like (2nd edition is what I grew up with, prefer to keep it that way, I see WFB as 2nd ed rule system still and play Necromunda cos it's still 2nd ed rules).

Also people take 40k WAY too far and with Apoc just released, all that modeling and painting for a 2,000-4,000 pt army gets blown away in 1-2 turns by someone with forge world goodies or a detachment of Baneblades/Baneblade varients.

Just my beef with 40k.

Big AL - March 4, 2008 12:16 PM (GMT)
I've played a few games of farty gay, and I don't like it. I like the fantasy movement phase too much. I like the fluff for fantasy better than 40K. I don't like the whole emperor and that nonsense. I like that everything is on one planet and every race has their own place in the world, have you ever read skaven, or dark elf fluff? That's good fluff there.
Plus I don't like guns, I'd prefer to beat someone to death than shoot them. FANTASY ALL THE WAY!!!

Valtiel - March 4, 2008 06:04 PM (GMT)
I stick to Fantasy, but I have built up a nice Tyranid army of about 1000 points. Now I just wait for some of my friends to begin playing it so that I can finally try it out for real. Haven't played a single game yet, except for one mission in the starter set.

While I do like 40k, my real love is for Fantasy. Unfortunately Tyranids are not in the Warhammer world. :(

But if I can field a huge army of Chaos Beasts, monsters, Daemons and Mortals I'm satisfied.

Tordeck - March 6, 2008 03:54 PM (GMT)
Since I am predominantly a 40k player and am just beginning my first fantasy army (dark elves) I will be playing Daemons in 40k. At least for now.

Big AL - March 6, 2008 04:20 PM (GMT)
Till the new dark elf book comes out at the end of the year!

Gaz Taylor - March 7, 2008 03:49 PM (GMT)
I shall be collecting an army for both games, but WFB would be my main interest, with 40k Demon army being for pottering around with.

when i started it out it was 40k that really grabbed me, whereas with some of my friends it was fantasy. I prefer fantasy tenfold now because you actually have to be able to read to play it and it isnt written for for the games developer's children and isn't systematically simplified almost to extinction with every successive edition BUT it's alway been quite clear to be that imaginatively 40k is far superior.

I mean I'm no GW fan boy and they piss me off more than they please me, but i really do think that the 40k mythos is high-literature and science fiction at its best. Warhammer fantasy is just a reimagining of a fantasy genre which has already been around for donkey's years (although chaos is still cool) but i have no problem with this at all, it works just fine.

Atrocity - March 17, 2008 09:46 PM (GMT)
Fantasy! All the way!

40k just isn't as fun of a game to play. Actually, I have my Tau army for sale and I am quite sure I will never return to 40k as it is an inferior game, even if it is what got me into the hobby, at age 13 (gods I've been playing long)...

Feuermann - March 18, 2008 09:16 PM (GMT)
Fantasy and 40k(changing the bases XD)
I wanted to start a 40K army, and the daemons give me the answer XDXD

Sacred Cow - March 18, 2008 10:04 PM (GMT)
I am just happy that GW realized the need for two seperate daemon books.

joewrightgm - March 31, 2008 02:23 AM (GMT)
Ok, gotta stick up for 40k:

I think 40k is just like fantasy in one regard: It is what you make it.

I like it alot primarily because I love the back story and blowing stuff straight to Hell.

Its unfortunate that there's a perception of there being a higher percentage of power gamers, but I don't find that to be accurate, at least in my area.

See, the thing about the downsides of 40k is that people generally don't tell you about that amazing combat, or that guy's really cool army.

You hear about the power gamer that smell like malt liquor and funk, that tournament that you went to that everyone created the most powerful list possible, of cheaters and liars and other things.

I don't know if I'm blessed with a great gaming community, but we a majority of 40k players, and they are all great people. I can honestly say that only once or twice did I face a power gamer that was an absolute punk.

That person no longer visits the store, because the community at large refused to play him.

And would I be remiss in saying that there are no power gamers in fantasy? As far as negative stereotypes for fantasy goes, its been my anecdotal experience that fantasy players tend to be more elitist.

More than once, a kid 4-5 years younger than me (I'm 22) sees my 40k army and said with a straight face "Why don't you play Fantasy? Play a real man's game,"

I'm not saying 40k is better or worse; its just different. Fantasy is no better or worse game than 40k; its just different.

And to compare systems, you really can't. Its apples and oranges.

But thats just me.

Arante - March 31, 2008 05:36 PM (GMT)
I agree with joewrightgm in that you can't really compare the two.
The fluff for 40k is better and wider, but it is on a whole universe, whereas fantasy is on 1 world.
I admit i personally enjoy fantasy as a game more, theres a few stupid rules in 40k that are annoying and make little sense. but the majority of players at my club are 40k players, so i will end up playing more 40k because there are more ppl to play and want to play it.

Enfant Terrible - May 15, 2008 07:01 PM (GMT)
Life's too short for 40K ... woosh :ph43r:

Azel - May 15, 2008 07:46 PM (GMT)
Well... maybe too short for 2nd ed 40k, loved that game but it did take ages

weslymckay - August 15, 2008 03:52 PM (GMT)
fantasy all the way ive been playing senice 5th in a town where every one plays 40k i am the only sole fantasy player at my local store but that will never stop me im at a point where i own 8 different armys and the goal is to have them all so far the daemons are the most soild army i have ever played with.

snyggejygge - August 16, 2008 08:40 AM (GMT)
