Title: Arena of Death Potential
Description: Who's interested?
Vriishnak - November 23, 2004 12:35 AM (GMT)
So, at some point in the future, I believe I can get our ravenous, rapidly growing site a spot in a big, inter-site Arena Tourney, between the Rezephua site, Warhammer Palace, and possibly Druchii.net or Ulthuan.org. In order to arrange this, and commit to it, I need to know how many of our members would be interested in submitting a character into the competition.
Standard rules are 250 point characters, with Daemons getting a small discount for rules that don't come into play; I'm not looking for characters right now, understand, just a figurative show of hands from all who would be willing to put the time into coming up with the small amount of background required to get into the competition.
Of course, anyone who does exceptionally well may find themselves rewarded by the fickle Chaos Gods, or, in this case, the Admin. On top of that, you'll be helping to get our site more exposure to some of the bigger sites out there.
Now, I need to know who's interested. I'll be entering a character, as I'm sure our other admin will. Ideally, we'd be able to get 29 more people willing to enter, but if we can get anywhere near that number I'll be exceedingly happy.
And remember, a happy admin is a non-vengeful admin.
Tzeentch - November 23, 2004 12:39 AM (GMT)
I'm in. Mine will be a Tzeentchian Daemon, obviously.
The Lord of Thunder - November 23, 2004 04:23 PM (GMT)
i'm in too. A daemon of undivided should be suitable.
Vriishnak - November 23, 2004 06:34 PM (GMT)
Alright, so including the admin, we have 5 people who will enter so far.
Anyone else?

acolite, the enlightened - November 24, 2004 09:06 PM (GMT)
I would, but I don't know how it works, if someone could explain...
Vriishnak - November 25, 2004 12:50 AM (GMT)
Each person submits a character of up to 250 points, then it's arranged in an elimination-style tournament. Progressive rounds are done until there's one champion left. It's all handled by one single person, in this case LordChilipepa of
Rezephua. If you want to see how it works, maybe get some experience with it before this one comes up (always assuming enough people are interested; come on, guys!) check out the site and enter a character somewhere.
acolite, the enlightened - November 28, 2004 07:52 PM (GMT)
Thanks, but when you say "Its arranged in an elimination style tournament", how do you get eliminated?
Malakess, Druchii Annointed. - November 28, 2004 08:21 PM (GMT)
I am back. Noth that I did much in the first place. But, either way, I would be glad to represent Chaos. I will prolly be playing a Slanneshi daemon.
Haragen-Skullcrusher - November 28, 2004 09:10 PM (GMT)
Hi guys, I am in if it is still open. I have played arena of death on woc, daemon legion and many other sites. I love to write storys and what not and am very experianced in that field. So count me in, using a khorne daemon of course
(Haragen Skullcrusher has recently been raised to exalted daemon hood!)
Cheers
The Skullcrusher
wyrmling_x - November 29, 2004 07:00 PM (GMT)
Long-lost Haragen returns! :) Good to have you (and Malakess, of course) back in action. As far as I know, we're still some time before the "deadline" (whenever that is), so feel free to join in. In light of that, we still need a number of people to join/volunteer/speak up to make this thing viable, so join the fun! Many members were asking about an AoD, and here it is. ;)
Vriishnak - November 30, 2004 09:08 PM (GMT)
Okay, elimination style means that, after the fights are all paired off into one-on-one battles (we wouldn't be fighting each other, by the way; the idea is that the different sites are against each other), each fight is rolled and written, and the loser is eliminated. Survivors move to the next round, where they're paired again, and so on until there's a single winner.
Haragen: good to see you back. None of us will be responsible for writing fights, I don't think, though good background for characters is always appreciated.
Looks like about 9 people confirmed so far. Like I said, 32 is ideal, and if we can't get that high, we should find another chaos-related site to bump up our numbers.
Lord Marixis - November 30, 2004 10:26 PM (GMT)
I would be happy to enter a character in this Arena, so lon as it doesn't have to be a Daemon. If it does, I wil probably enter anyway, but it would be easier for me to just stick with my Tzeentch mortal character.
Vriishnak - December 1, 2004 02:57 AM (GMT)
I can't make any guarantees, but I'd imagine we'll be allowed to enter any Daemonic or Mortal characters we want, and possibly beasts as well.
I don't know entirely when this is going to happen, but once we've got 16-20 confirmed entries I'll look into the details. We're now at 10, assuming my counting is correct.
Trogdor - December 1, 2004 03:21 PM (GMT)
Well, assuming you count the way you count your posts, we might be screwed :P .
Vriishnak - December 1, 2004 04:50 PM (GMT)
Hmm, not quite. Lemme try again.
...Alright, so I can't even pretend innocence. Oh well. The fact is, my post count is well deserved, by any measure. Surely you can see the 8 million invisible posts I've made. :P
...And people, tell me you're interested!
Haragen-Skullcrusher - December 3, 2004 07:53 PM (GMT)
We're interested, calm down :D
8 mil is alot but a suppose they all just got put in a forum we cant see or something( ;) ) Anyway is that points limit definently going to apply cos I dont even have the rules for the daemonic herald(mutter) so my guy could be the normal mortal with chalice of chaos to create a daemon.....
Also how many points of magic items/daemonic gifts are we allowed to take?
Vriishnak - December 3, 2004 11:00 PM (GMT)
250 points will be the limit. That's the value that gives the best balance between characters of all races.
Daemons, however get to go up to 40 points over, to compensate for the fact that Terror and Flying have no effect; basically, we get 290 points.
Lords get their normal value of magical items, and Heroes can take up to 100.
Of course, it's not really worth designing your character yet, as there's still some time before this would be starting, assuming we get enough entries.
Tzeentch - December 4, 2004 12:08 AM (GMT)
290? Man, I can't even make a decent Exalted of Tzeentch out of that. *sigh* I guess I'm stuck with a herald.
Vriishnak - December 4, 2004 05:58 PM (GMT)
Oh, the mark of Tzeentch will likely be free, seeing as magic levels don't do anything in this context. Should've mentioned that before.
Lord Marixis - December 4, 2004 06:34 PM (GMT)
Good. For a moment there, I was worried that I would have to enter an Aspiring Champion of Tzeentch instead of my Lord/Exalted champ. Thanks for clearing that up, Vriishnak.
Haragen-Skullcrusher - December 4, 2004 08:12 PM (GMT)
Err.... Guys, what do you mean that flying, terror and magic will have no effect. When I played arena of death you could cast spells to send people to the realm of chaos(violet fire) zap people with random blue and red bolts and what not. Also if the daemon can fly then obviously you would write ' and haragen flu up high' to avoid things or whatever. Or am I thinking of something else?

Vriishnak - December 5, 2004 03:08 PM (GMT)
You're thinking of something else. Check the link I posted a while ago to see how this will work.
Sicle - December 8, 2004 10:09 PM (GMT)
I'm in as well. Anything to help out.
Darmort - December 10, 2004 04:48 PM (GMT)
Too be honest, I don't think this Arena of Death thing will work, for one reason, if the site is too small for Role Playing Games and Role Playing Stories, then it would be too small for a Arena, right?
Anyway, I may play the odd game, depends on how easy the rules are and whether or not I can be bothered to write up a Character.
(Side-Note: If the Site is big enough (In the Admin's Opinion), then way not add Role Playing Section and i'll PM an Admin the Rules for a simple, idiot RPG/S?)
Vriishnak - December 10, 2004 04:53 PM (GMT)
A couple of points in response to that.
1) An RPG needs at least 5 or 6 long-term, committed players, which generally only come from a large member base. Warhammer Palace, which has over 1000 registered members, only has 8 or 10 who are really devoted to roleplying. What does that tell you?
2) This only needs 16 or 32 characters, created using normal warhammer rules, with some amount of background to them. On average, I'd say it's a one-time 10-15 minute process to have a character, and you only need one for the tourney.
3) This is a way of getting more members here, as we enter into competition with 3 other sites.
4) Give up on the roleplaying for now. We'll add it when we figure the site is big enough for it, and being hounded isn't going to make it any sooner.
Haragen-Skullcrusher - December 15, 2004 04:00 PM (GMT)
Whao! I'm sorry all, I thought this was something uterly different. By the Way....
WHAT THE.....! i did not understand that at all. Do you actually write up the fights or do you just present a good character and allow some guy to roll for what the attacks are and based on his luck you go through or not! Is that what happens!
Is it! Now I am just confused :(
Vriishnak - December 15, 2004 04:32 PM (GMT)
Just present the character, and the admin of the Rezephua site does all the rolling and writes up the fights.
Haragen-Skullcrusher - December 17, 2004 04:41 PM (GMT)
Oh right, thats a bit weird..... So as i said, it is all based on his luck? Not your skill at writing...
Bauhaus - December 21, 2004 05:43 PM (GMT)
I suppose I'd be interested.
Khorne Exalted would cost me what? Blade of Ether, Armor & might of Khorne?
Something like that.
Darmort - December 27, 2004 06:39 PM (GMT)
Right, maybe i'll join, maybe I won't, depends on how the thing works, whether it works like a game of Skirmish Warhammer or something.
ON a side note (I don't mean to press by this but..):
I have had a few encounters with Role Plays doing very well with two active players and one semi active player, so I think trying a Role Play in the Non-Daemon Discussion might be worth a shot, but it's up to the Admin's of course.
lord of thunder - December 29, 2004 04:37 PM (GMT)
[RANT]For god sake Darmort, we are too small for rpgs! Yes we have a large amount of members, but how many of 'em actually post? We shouldn't get ahead of ourselves, me thinks.[/RANT]
Vriishnak - December 29, 2004 05:16 PM (GMT)
Thank you, lord of thunder. That sums it up quite nicely.
Anyway, it looks like the arena idea has fallen through for now. Once we get some more members, I'll push to get another one going.
