the weather and month
Early november has fallen across Scotland, and the students feel it bitterly. With the absolute warmest temperatures reached falling around 46 degrees, the low at night falls just above freezing. Rain, which it seems to do nearly half the time, is bitterly cold-driven by the gusting winds. All the leaves have fallen and color has stripped from vegetation leaving everything dreary, grey and wet. It rarely even gets cold enough to frost, which might have salvaged the situation.

C O M M O N R O O M S . gathering places for each house, each common room is decorated in the colors of its' inhabitants and contains chairs, tables and bookcases for all students to use.
D O R M I T O R I E S . the rooms of all the students, there are four poster beds for each inhabitant, decorated in the colors of their house. there is room enough for a bedside table and a trunk to be stored for each. ravenclaw and gryffindor students, both in towers, have large circular rooms with windows that face over the grounds.
C O R R I D O R S . sprawling through out the castle, these corridors are decorated with suits of armor, portraits and have niches -- frequently used as hiding places. if you are in desperate need, perhaps one of the portraits shall lead the way?

S T A I R C A S E S . challenging to traverse, hogwarts' one hundred and forty-two staircases all present their own challenges. be it a moving staircase, trick or vanishing steps, it is always a challenge to get to classes on time.

G R O U N D F L O O R . entrance hall, great hall, broom cupboard, staffroom, classroom eleven, filch's office.
C O U R T Y A R D . a large open square surrounded by covered walkways, the courtyard is a central meeting place, for relaxation, homework or other recreational activities. during winter, it is a key location for snowball fights.
G R O U N D S K E E P E R H U T . care of magical creatures is taught around this hut on most days, in the open space surrounding it.

T H E B L A C K L A K E . half a mile in diameter, the lake is located south of the castle. the boathouse is a convenient hiding place for those students seeking to avoid capture by the groundskeeper, ogg.
T H E W H O M P I N G W I L L O W . people are banned to go near the tree because of a familiar game the students used to play to see who could get closest to the tree's trunk.

T H E L A W N S . a wide, flat open space used to teach the first years their flying lessons. it isn't just used for that, though, of course...
T H E G A T E H O U S E . located to the south of the castle, the gatehouse is built along the road that leads into the castle. from the hogsmeade station, carriages will travel northwest to the gatehouse, and then proceed north along the road on the grounds.

T H E C L I F F S . the steps down from the castle's main entrance will bring students down the cliff that hogwarts was built upon. frequented by young boys seeking to play games of keep-away, it is also possible to secure a niche and read in the early morning and late afternoon light, looking out over the lake.
H O G S M E A D E . places of hogsmeade: dervish & banges, gladrags wizardwear, the hog's head tavern, hogsmeade station, honeydukes sweetshop, madam puddifoot's, post office, scrivenshaft's quill shop, the shrieking shack, the three broomsticks, zonko's joke shop.

D I A G O N A L L E Y . the following are places around diagon alley: apothecary, cafes, cauldron shop, eeylops owl emporium, florean fortescue's ice cream parlour, flourish & blotts, gambol & japes, gringotts wizarding bank, madam malkin's robes for all occasions, madam primpernelle's beautifying potions, magical menagerie, obscurus books, ollivander's wand shop, quality quidditch supplies, scribbulus everchanging inks, second hand robe shop, slug & jiggers apothecary, stationary store, street peddlers, terrortours, twilfit & tattings, whizzhard books.
W I S T E R I A L A N E . a very popular area for witches and wizards that have recently graduated, it offers bars, boutiques, and several other stores in the vicinity that could possibly suit your tastes and needs.

G O D R I C ' S H O L L O W . though a muggle neighborhood, godric's hollow has been home for famous and not-so-famous wizards and witches for over a thousand years.

O T T E R Y S T . C A T C H P O L E . located by the town of devon, the rural neighborhood is home to several muggle homesteads. unknown to them, they also host a community of wizarding families, including the weasley home of the burrow, the lovegoods, the diggorys, and the fawcetts. the children in the area have converted a neglected pasture into a modified quidditch pitch for their use.

L I T T L E H A N G L E T O N . home to descendants of salazar slytherin and lord voldemort's maternal and paternal family, little hangleton is a bleak and dreary village surrounded by cliffs and teeming with pureblood aristocracy. many death eater meetings and initiations have occurred here.
