Chapter 1: Unexpected Encounter
A lone cabin boy scrubbed the deck. I’ll be safe as long as Cutler doesn’t ‘visit’ this ship. The crew adjusted the sails while the captain shouted orders. Men scurried here and there. That conniving backstabbing snake! He’ll pay for everything. Someone looking into a spyglass shouted something. I have nothing to worry about, right? This is a small insignificant trading ship… why would he bother?
“The Endeavor!” The captain shouted. “Bring the ship to a full halt! Prepare yourselves for the inspection!”
Everyone ran to and fro the ship. Everyone straightened themselves out, no matter how horrible they looked, and lined-up. The cabin boy dropped the rug into the bucket and ran to the line.
“Ah. Good Morning Captain Sullivan.” “Good morning Lord Beckett. May I say how… splendid, you look today.” The captain bowed. “Enough pleasantries captain.” The Lord Beckett scoffed. He was disgusted with the sad attempt the captain tried to ingratiate himself. “Is your crew ready for inspection?” “Yes sir.” “I hope no one has ties with pirates captain,” Lord Beckett leered. “For your sake. Anyone on my list, or is discovered to have any connection whatsoever to piracy on this ship will be hanged, and you, captain, will be charged with collaboration with pirates and sent to the gallows.” The captain shrunk and paled. He gulped, and proceeded to announce his lordship’s business with a shaky voice. “The Lo-lord Beckett is go-going to question you all about piracy and everything else he might want to know.” He paused to breathe and took back his air of authority that disappeared that moment. “If I find out any of you are pirates, or even as so much have any connection with any pirate, I’ll make your life suffer so that you’ll wish your execution will come quick before we are both hanged!”
The cabin boy entered the captain’s cabin for the questioning. The captain and Lord Beckett along with two guards were there. His lordship was sipping tea. The captain’s face was finally regaining its color. The cabin boy was the last part of the crew, and everyone had been proven innocent. Now it was the boy’s turn. “Remove your hat, please.” Lord Beckett told the seemingly young kid. The tone of his voice indicated it wasn’t a request. The cabin boy had this impertinent smile on his face. He slowly removed his hat. Jet black hair cascaded down. “You… you’re a woman!” The captain gasped, color draining from his face. His lordship stared at her for a few seconds, when it registered. The look on his face was astonishment. “Jerry Beckett. I didn’t recognize you there. I see you have been great at hiding your identity.” “It’s nice to see you too Cutler.” Jerry countered sharply. “Last I heard you killed my mother last hanging.” “I have no choice my dear. She was ‘keeping to the code’ as you pirates call it.” He pushed a cup of tea towards Jerry. “Do you like tea?” “You bloody b******.” She half rose. “She was your own flesh and blood!” Jerry yelled at him angrily. Cutler sipped from his cup. “Sometimes, blood has to be sacrificed to reach your ambition.” Jerry stared at Cutler, fuming. “I guess you’d have to hang me too then.” Jerry retorted. “I’ve always known I was a pirate since I was born.” Jerry’s father died before Jerry was even born. He was a pirate in the Asian waters. It was from him where she got her shiny black hair. Jerry’s mother was Cutler’s Aunt. Jerry’s mother named her Jerry because she wanted a son, but instead got her. “I have plans for you Jerry.” Cutler said. “Now that I have the Flying Dutchman in my hands, and my plans of ridding this world of pirates is going well, I want to search for the ‘Aqua Le Vida’, the Fountain of Youth.” Jerry laughed at him. “What do you need me for? I don’t have the map.” “I’ve heard there is more than one way to get to it.” Beckett said, and finished the rest of his tea. “And I know you have one of those ways.” Jerry looked at him seriously. This might be the only way I could get away from him. And once I find a chance, I’ll go back and kill him for what he’d done. “Go on.” “I’ll give you a ship, and a crew. You shall sail to the Fountain of Youth, and shall wait for me there. If you find it, you shall send me a letter, guiding me in the waters. I’ll arrive then, and after I take my drink I’ll kill you.” “Sounds fair enough.” Jerry said. “Just don’t hang the captain’s sorry self.” Jerry indicated the pallid captain. “So, when will I leave?”

Chapter 2: The Winds are in Our Favor
---
“She’ll do.” Jerry said, climbing up from below decks. “I would have to change that wretched flag though, and that horrible name. I’ll re-name it, the Ethereal .” Beckett sneered, and motioned to Mercer. Mercer handed Jerry a letter. Jerry unrolled it and read it. She whistled. “Impressive. Why are you giving this to me?” “It would protect you, temporarily, against the other ships I’ve sent around the world.” Beckett said, and turned around to leave. Jerry smirked. “I don’t need your protection.” “You’ll need it, I assure you.” Beckett called on one of his soldiers. “Lieutenant Aubrey…” The Lieutenant stood in attention. “Keep our friend in line. Shoot her if she strays from her little errand. Understood?” “Yes sir.”
---
“Hoist our colours men! We’re sailing to the Fountain of Youth!” Jerry shouted from the stern. The men cheered and stood in place. “What are ye standing around for ye scurvy dogs! Ready the ship and the sails!” “Where’s our heading captain?” “Northeast!” Jerry licked her finger and raised it to the wind. “The winds are in our favor.” She said, and called a random sailor. “You’re in charge. I’ll be in my quarters plotting the course if there are any problems.” “Yes Captain!” The sailor replied. He announced his authority to the crew, who looked at Jerry. She nodded her acknowledgment to his authority.
“The ship is in good hands, don’t you think?” Jerry remarked to Lieutenant Aubrey. He was sitting on a chair and tapping his fingers on the table. “Leaving the ship to a relatively incompetent sailor doesn’t make the ship safe Captain.” Jerry sat down across from him. “You don’t know if the man I appointed is really incompetent, as you said. He looked entirely competent to me, and it was my choice.” Lt. Aubrey nodded his agreement. “Of course.” He stood up, and walked towards Jerry. “I’m forgetting my manners. I’m Lieutenant Blake Aubrey of the Third Platoon of the East India Trading Company.” He offered his hand. Jerry didn’t take the handshake. She pulled out a normal map and laid it on the table. “I’m Captain Jerry Beckett, of the ship Ethereal. And if you want to know my impressive credentials, I’m a pirate.” Lt. Aubrey put down his hand and snickered. “By the way Captain, how are we going to the Fountain of Youth without a reliable map pointing to it, or the infamous Jack Sparrow’s compass?” “Captain Jack Sparrow to you Lieutenant.” Jerry corrected. “Besides, even if I had that compass, it won’t point to the Fountain. It’s not the thing I want most in the world.” “How do you know Jack- Captain, Jack?” Lt. Aubrey asked. “How do you know about the compass?” Jerry countered. Lt. Aubrey smiled insolently. “I’ve heard about it somewhere. And how about Captain Jack?” “Let’s just say I know him very well, and leave it at that Lieutenant.” Lt. Aubrey nodded, but his curiosity was sparked. “I won’t push the subject for now then. “Anyway, how are we heading for Fountain of Youth without a sense of direction on where it is?” “There are some things you don’t need to know.” Jerry said. She traced her finger towards a place on the map. “There.” “The Fountain of Youth?” “Yes. That’s it. Now… there would be a few problems.” “Like?” “Harsh winds. Huge storms. The usual.” Jerry hesitated for a moment. “And of course, the Leviathan.” “Leviathan?” Lt. Aubrey inquired. There was hesitation in his voice, but not of fear. Jerry laughed. “You don’t think that the Fountain would be unguarded, do you?” “The Leviathan is just a myth.” The Lieutenant said matter-of-factly. “It isn’t real.” Jerry shook her head. “I take it; you haven’t met the kraken yet?” “I have heard of it. Why?” “Even the kraken stays away from it.” Jerry explained. Her eyes sparkled with delight as she re-told the story her mother used to tell her. “Once, there was a pirate who attempted to sail to the Fountain of Youth.” “What happened to him?” “No one knows.” Jerry whispered to add suspense. “All people say that the Leviathan got to him. No one has ever heard from him ever again.” Lt. Aubrey laughed. “A good story Captain. Still a story though. No way to tell if it’s true.” “Oh, I’m sure it’s true.” Jerry said. “if the Kraken is real, why shouldn’t the Leviathan be?” “Just a legend Captain.” Lt. Aubrey insisted. Jerry just shook her head. “Suit yourself then.” She returned to the map and continued plotting the course. Lt. Aubrey looked over her shoulder, taking in the plotted course. He memorized the path they were taking, and murmured to himself. “Lieutenant, I really can’t work with you watching every move I make. Go check what the crew’s doing or something.” Jerry said, not looking up from the map. Lt. Aubrey rolled his eyes, and stepped out of the room. He closed the door as quietly and he could, but it still gave a huge bang. “Hope he doesn’t stir up a mutiny.” Jerry whispered to herself, and continued her work.

----- Chapter 2: Entangled in a Legend
“The Capitana, eh?” “Who goes there?!” Jerry snatched her pistol and cocked it in the voice’s general direction. A woman stepped out of the shadows. Her sea-shell adorned hair was shimmering despite of the poorly lit cabin. She was blindingly beautiful. “You haven’t forgotten about me, haven’t you, Jerry Beckett?” “Galatea!” Jerry’s eyes widened. How did she find me? I have been so careful… “What- Why are you here?!” “You gave me a hard time.” Galatea sat on a nearby chair. Her seaweed green dress sparkled when she sat down. “After I helped you in that storm, saving you from being dragged down to the bottom of the sea, this is how you thank me-“ She half-stood, “BY STEALING FROM ME?!” Jerry stood up, and looked for a bottle of rum. She looked under her bed and found one. She desperately needed one now, to get her through this. She was facing a bloody sea nymph! Rum would be handy right now. She finally reached the bottle, and she took a long drink before answering. “I’ve heard you weren’t permitted to leave the Mediterranean…” “Then how could I have saved you?” Galatea asked, smirking. “Ever since they locked Calypso in the wretched mortal body, I have been free to roam the four corners of the earth.” “Well then, thank you milady for saving me.” Jerry said and mock-curtsied. “I should be getting back to work now. Thanks for dropping by.” Jerry sat down and stared hard at the map pretending to work. Please just go… Just… go. Go away…Jerry cautiously raised her head up to look if Galatea has already left, and she saw no one on the chair. She turned her head to check her surroundings when Galatea re-appeared in front of her, her nose almost touching the sea nymph’s chin. “GIVE ME BACK THE RING!” Galatea screamed, her eyes flashing red. Her hair exploded into a fiery mass. Jerry fell from her chair in fright. She backed away as quickly as she can, and pressed herself against the wall, determined to get as far as she could from Galatea. “I-I-I don’t have it.” Galatea stared hard at her. Jerry turned away. “You’ve lost it?!” She shouted in Jerry’s face. “Find it… FIND IT!” Galatea slowly backed away, still glaring at Jerry. “I’ll be back in a few days, and if you don’t have it, I’ll sentence you to oblivion!” And with that, she disappeared with an intense flash of light, leaving Jerry frightened half to death. Jerry sweated profusely, her eyes full of fear. She panted heavily and tried to catch her breathe. She closed her eyes, and cursed under her breath. “Bloody Nereid. Bloody sea nymph!”
“Turn her around, quickly!” Jerry shouted frantically as she slammed the door to her cabin. “Head Southwest!” The crew adjusted the sails, and Jerry made her way into the cockpit and spun the tiller around. “Smartly men!” She commanded. “What’s t’hurry Capt’n?” A sailor asked. “Th' ship can't go any faster than 8 knots!” Jerry got her spyglass and examined the horizon. She froze when she felt the barrel of a pistol poke her. “Why are we turning? Why are we straying from our heading?” “If I don’t get what she wants, she’ll send me into Davy Jones’ locker! And if she manages to do that, we won’t get to do your esteemed lordship’s bidding, now, will we?” Jerry grumbled between gritted teeth. Just a mention of the situation she was in makes her anxious. Lt. Aubrey pushed the pistol further. “Who would?” Jerry mumbled something under her breath. “What?” “I said Galatea!” Jerry bawled. She faced the lieutenant and pushed him away. Every sailor stopped, and looked at Jerry. Jerry’s hands trembled at the tiller, and there was wild fear in her eyes, but she was determined not to show that she was scared. “Get a move on, ye scurvydogs!” She barked, steadying herself. Don’t wanna lose my Captain-air-of-authority by acting all scared now, do I? She smiled nervously to herself, and scanned the horizon.

Chapter 3: Storyteller
-----
“Someone guard the ship. I need to take care of something.” Jerry walked down the gangplank, and disappeared into the crowd. “Captain!” Lt. Aubrey shouted, and ran after Jerry. “I’m coming with you. No telling what you would do on this… little detour of ours, and I think I should know what it is.” Jerry turned around and saw Lt. Aubrey ran towards her. “You need to change your clothes mate, this is Spanish territory, and I don’t want to be caught with a Brit.” “You’ve been caught more than once, haven’t you captain? And you’re apprehensive about this?” Jerry simpered. “My reputation would suffer if I’m caught with a British, and sentenced to death by the Spanish because I’m ‘collaborating’ with a Brit. That’s not how I want to go down Lieutenant.” The Lieutenant shook his head, smiling. “Fine.” He ran back to the ship, and emerged stripped of his hat, wig, and coat. “There. That’s better.” Jerry commented. She adjusted her hat, and made her way through the crowd. “Aren’t you going to change Captain? People are not used to seeing women wearing…” Lieutenant Aubrey indicated Jerry’s outfit. “…that.” “Don’t worry mate, I fooled your revered Lord Beckett with my disguise, I don’t see why I can’t fool these people.” Jerry smiled sweetly, and then rolled her eyes. She made her way through the crowd, and walked into a tavern with a plank of wood stating it was called ‘Eminencia Negrura’. “Where are we? Spanish territory…” Lt. Aubrey thought for a moment. “Isla de Felipinas?” “I see you know your geography Mr. Aubrey.” Jerry said, and ordered a bottle of rum from the bartender. Lt. Aubrey signaled to the bartender he’d want his own bottle of rum too. “Whatever happened to Lieutenant?” “Well, I had to drop it off sometime. Crew’s not here anyway. And besides, if you’re going to be with me, you’re gonna have to play by my rules. Is that clear, Blake?” Jerry smirked. Lt. Aubrey, who was demoted to just Mr. Aubrey, then to Blake in no more than an hour, just laughed. “Alright then, Jerry.” “You’re not bad mate, I think there is hope for you after all.” Jerry smirked. “We’re wasting our time. What are we here for anyway?” Jerry clutched her bottle hard, her knuckles turning white. “The acquaintance of mine who has the whereabouts on where the ring is. He comes in here at exactly twelve noon without fail. And we have about fifteen minutes before he comes.” “What’s so important about this ring, anyway?” Jerry took a drink from her bottle. “What do you know about Galatea mate?”
The bartender glanced at them. Jerry shot a look back. The bartender walked over. “Galatea. Ah, lad, she was one of the most beautiful nereides in the sea.” He was, evidently, fond of telling stories. Jerry nodded at him, and mock-saluted. “Ah, Enrique.” She slapped him on the back. “Captain Jerry, mate! I almost didn’t recognize ye thar’! You’re gettin’ good at this disguise business, eh? What’s yer most recent adventure, I haven’t heard from ye for long!” “He knows that…?” Aubrey started, and trailed off, looking at Jerry. Enrique guffawed and slapped Blake Aubrey’s back. “Of course I know. I was the Capitan’s first mate on The Bloody Chum. Until that b****** sent ‘er o’ to t’ bottom of t’ sea ‘n’ finished my profession in piracy by incapacitatin’ me. Cut of me two legs, now using prosthetics, ‘Peg-legged Rick’ as they called me.” “Who did?” Aubrey asked. “Why, that blasted Beckett o’ course!” Enrique reddened with anger. “That bloody b******.” Blake opened his mouth to object, but Jerry cut him off. “Just tell him the whole story about Galatea mate, and I’ll tell you my current exploits.” “It’s a deal then, love.” Enrique shifted in his seat, and found a comfortable position. He gestured with a hand, indicating he was about to speak, when Jerry interrupted him. “Hand me a mug of grog first mate, and I’ll be off and back again later. Just tell ‘im everythin’. And keep ‘im ‘ere. I need to go find that acquaintance of mine…“ Enrique grinned at her, and handed her a mug. She drank it all in one gulp, and left the tavern, leaving Aubrey. Aubrey rose to follow her. Enrique caught Aubrey’s hand and pulled him down to sit. “T’ Captain told ye lad t’ stay ‘ere with me. Don’t worry, she’ll be back.” Blake sat there with a scowl on his face. He glared at Enrique. “So, are you going to tell me the story or not?” Enrique handed him a mug of grog. “’ere mate, for additional entertainment with me story.”

OOPS. I didn't know B*st*rd was..err, forbidden. typed it straight. oooops.
Chapter 5: According to the Captain... Galatea, by the way, is a real sea nymph(in Greek mythology, anyway) I just kinda borrowed her.. xD the following story about her though is completely made-up so you guys are clear. ;)
The italicized parts are Enrique’s narration for the Galatea story… and also some of his own comments… :D
-------
“Galatea is one o’ t’ most beautiful sea nymphs in t’ Mediterranean. There are stories of ‘er helpin’ drownin’ sailors, ‘er calmin’ t’ sea durin’ storms, ‘n’ such like... Well, those are things people generally know about ‘er, but thar be this story about-“ “Just tell me what the bloody happened between her and Jerry!” Blake Aubrey cut him off. “Captain Jerry t’ ye lad. She’s not really fond o’ usin’ t’ term captain in every way, and yet I insist everyone refer t’ ‘er as captain, especially if she’s in command o’ a ship…” Enrique was so engrossed in talking that he didn’t notice Blake glaring at him. When he did notice, it was too late, and the grog from Aubrey’s mug was already in his face. “Okay… then.” He wiped his face clean. “Another mug of grog, then get on with the blasted story!” Enrique simpered, handed Blake a mug of grog, sat down, and proceeded to tell his story.
According t’ Capt’n Jerry, she was in this ship during a huge storm…
“Batten down the hatches! Tie yourselves in! It’s going to be a long night!” The captain shouted. He grabbed a rope and tied it around his waist. The crew strained to tie their lines. The cabin boy (yes boy, it’s Jerry. A cabin boy again. Seems like the only thing she’s capable to disguise herself into on a ship. On land, she could disguise herself as any man.) strived to tie his own. But before he could finish the knot, a huge wave swept him away into the sea. The crew watched in shock as the lad fought to keep afloat. One sailor tried jumping overboard to save the kid, but the crew stopped him. The sea was just too rough. They watched the boy struggle for his life, and finally be pulled down into Davey Jones’ locker.
But they never knew that he’s still- or in this case, she, is still alive. Anyway, Jerry found herself in this place…
“Where am I?” The young cabin boy –or rather, Jerry- asked. She stood up from the cushion she was lying on. Jerry looked around, and found herself in an immaculately white marble room adorned with golden statues and artworks. Curtains and drapes here and there, it looked like it could be from Ancient Greece. “The bloody hell?” She stood up and examined her surroundings. Jerry found a small box in a drawer, and she opened it. A beautiful ring was safely tucked in the folds of lace and silk, and she quickly pocketed it. Jerry also got a few trinkets and a pendant. “Hello little sailor.” A melodious voice greeted. Jerry quickly placed the box back and closed the drawer. “Where am I?” Jerry demanded. She turned around, and saw a beautiful bonnie lass in front of her. “Who are you?” “I’m Galatea, a sea nymph. I found you drowning, and I decided to save you. You have much to do, Jerry Beckett.” Jerry sat down cautiously, not taking her eyes off the sea nymph. The sea nymph shook her head and smiled. She offered Jerry a cup of tea. “Don’t worry, I don’t bite.” Jerry took the cup of tea hesitantly. “Thanks. Where am I?” “You’re in my humble home. Lovely isn’t it?” Jerry nodded, and took a sip from her cup. “Yeah. Lovely.” Galatea smiled. “You were drowning in the Pacific, love. Tell me, what is a little lady like you doing at the sea?” Jerry snickered. She wasn’t that young to be called that way.
“How old was she then?” Aubrey asked. Enrique downed some rum. “About seventeen.” “She was quite a reckless little brat then, I take it.” “Reckless, yes, brat, I don’t think so kid. Captain Jerry is a respectable woman lad, she’s real business. Not ‘un yer gonna take on lightly.” Blake snickered.
Anyway sonny, Galatea asked her what she was doin’ thar in t’ sea. Women shu’n’t be found in t’ sea lad, bad luck ‘appens. That’s what t’ sailors believed, so she can’t be thar just for anythin’. “I… I was looking for my father.” Jerry replied. It wasn’t a lie. Just partial truth. She was lookin’ for ‘er father and was with t’ crew t’ try ‘n’ gain some money for ‘erself is all. Galatea smiled. She didn’t see through Jerry, she thought she was just an ordinary kid. An all powerful fooled by a mortal. “Ah. Your father. Captain Jose of the ‘Lisa’s Rose’. Isn’t that right?” Jerry nodded. “Yes ma’am.” Galatea winked, and waved her hand around and chanted something. Jerry closed her eyes, and when she opened them, everything was gone, and she found herself on shore. A ship passed by, and she waved her hands. She was brought back to Tortuga.
“So that’s what happened?” “According to t’ Capt’n, yes lad.” Enrique stood up, and handed Blake Aubrey another mug of grog. “I bett’r be gettin’ back t’ work now. Don’t start any trouble, ‘n’ stay thar. Capt’n’s orders.” Blake rolled his eyes, and drank from his mug.

Chapter 6: Retrieve and Run
Jerry walked towards a nearby stable. Establo de Gonzales, it stated on a wooden plank hanging above the door. “Gonzales!” Jerry screamed once she entered.
A scruffy middle-aged guy brandished a pistol in the air and shouted hysterically in Spanish.
“No habla Español, Miguel.” Jerry said.
Miguel Gonzales put down his pistol. “Jerry! What a surprise!”
“Let’s get down to business Miguel. I need the ring.”
“Oh… the ring you gave to me? As payment for your debt?”
Jerry didn’t answer. Instead, she threw a question of her own. “You didn’t arrive on time in the tavern today.”
“Something came up.”
Jerry snickered. “Where’s the ring?” She insisted.
“You can’t have it back Jerry. You gave it as a form of compensation for your huge debt. It’s mine now, and unless you have a way of getting it back from me... maybe a form of persuasion...” Miguel smiled dirtily, and flipped a coin he was holding.
Jerry smiled sarcastically. “Well… Why don’t we discuss it…?” She waved her hand towards a bench. Miguel sat down. Jerry pulled out her cutlass. “Now, this is a form of persuasion I’m familiar with.” She struck Miguel’s face with the broad side of her cutlass, and positioned the blade at the side of Miguel’s neck. Miguel winced at the close proximity of the blade, and struggled not to do anything stupid when Jerry slit a small, thin opening on Miguel’s neck. Blood dripped down his neck and into his shirt. “Are you going to give me the ring, or not?”
Miguel looked at her furiously. “Do I have any other option?” He curled his fingers into a fist.
“No.”
“I thought so. I’d get it from my house then.” Miguel stood up. Jerry let him pass, and followed him with her cutlass still a few inches from his neck. “It’s in here.” He made his way into the bedroom. He walked towards a table and opened a drawer. He pulled it opened and produced an elaborately carved box. He handed it to Jerry. Jerry took it and opened it, without taking her cutlass off Miguel’s neck.
Jerry stared at the ring for a few seconds. It was just then she actually saw how beautiful the ring was. Mesmerized by the brilliant colors changing at every angle, she looked at it in awe. Jerry whistled. Just think how great this would look like on her finger. But wait, Galatea’s looking for it, and-
She heard a click. Jerry turned towards Miguel. A pistol was thrust at her chest.
“Give me back the ring, or I swear to whatever powers there are I’m going to kill you.”
“Mate, it’s just a ring. I’ll pay you back.” Jerry placed the ring on the table.
Miguel sneered. “I know pirates. They never pay you back.”
“Unless he, or she, is honorable.” Jerry smiled sweetly. Of course, she knew she wasn’t one of those ‘honorable’ pirates.
Miguel reddened with irritation. “Out! Get out of my property! OUT!” He brandished his pistol, and shot in the air. Jerry ducked, and held her hat on her head. She ran out, but not before pocketing the ring. Miguel released a few more shots. “Get out of here!”
He smiled to himself, satisfied that Jerry ran out. He turned to look at the table where he knew Jerry left the ring. When he saw it wasn’t there, he flushed. He opened a closet door, and got a musket.
“Need to get out. Now…” Jerry said, rushing into the tavern. “Back to the ship!”
Blake looked at her, clutching a bottle of rum. He looked tipsy and intoxicated. “Wa?” He collapsed on the floor.
“Great mate… you’re drunk.” Jerry rolled her eyes. She bit her lower lip. “I thought you were going to watch him!” She turned to Enrique, who handed someone a mug of whiskey.
Enrique handed the mug over, and raised his hands up in defeat. “People ‘r’ orderin’… sorry Captain. I ‘ave me own job…”
“Well, how ab-”
BANG! Bang bang bang!
“There he is… Gotta run. Rick, help me with him… Miguel’s coming…”
“Did ya get it back from ‘im?”
“Give the bloody ring back!” Miguel ranted, waving his musket. He fired a shot in the air. He shot a bottle of rum. He shot a table. Everyone else took cover.
“Does that answer the question?” Jerry spat out. She ducked. Miguel fired again, and Jerry instinctively ducked every time, even though the shots weren’t directly aimed at her.
But eventually, Miguel spotted her, and started shooting in her direction.
“The ring!” Miguel fired a shot, and it hit a window, shattering the glass.
Enrique frowned, as he ducked behind a chair. “I ‘aven’t even paid my debt off this place, ‘n’ ‘e goes wreckin’ it?”
Jerry shushed him. “Stop ranting and figure a way out of here… ah! Distraction.” She jumped out from behind the chair. “Go… get Blake out of here and back to my ship!”
“Aye Captain!” Enrique answered, and proceeded to haul Blake over his shoulder. “Uh… Captain…”
Jerry grimaced as the bullet nearly hit her, instead hitting a chair nearby. “What?!”
“Where’s your ship?”
Jerry sighed and ducked again instinctively. “Dock. Named Ethereal. White sails. False Spanish colors.”
“But-“
“Go and look for it yourself! I’m a little busy at the moment!”
Enrique grumbled to himself as he dragged Blake out of the tavern. Thar be many ships ‘ere that sail under ‘t’ Spanish. Spanish territory…He just sighed, and got on with his work, managing not to attract Miguel’s attention.
Meanwhile, Jerry ducked under a table, and crawled towards the door. Miguel attacked the floor now, shooting wherever Jerry went, making her roll this way and that way. Jerry scratched her head. Why didn’t I bring my pistol? She asked herself, and let loose a string of obscenities under her breath. Her eyes brightened suddenly. The stiletto! Jerry groped down her leg towards her boot, and got her stiletto. She threw it in Miguel’s direction.

Chapter 7: Little Conversation
The stiletto sailed through the air, and hit Miguel on the leg. Miguel yelped and dropped the musket. Jerry ran towards him and pushed him down. He toppled over a table. Jerry dashed out of the building, and towards her ship. “Bloody heck. That was my lucky knife. No matter… I could always procure a new one…” She said to herself.
Miguel hobbled out of the tavern. He shouted something in Spanish, and Jerry knew it was some form of obscenity. He shouted for help, and a couple of soldiers rushed over. They talked to him a bit, and Miguel pointed towards Jerry, who was almost to her ship. The soldiers whistled and gestured at other guards, and all went after Jerry.
Jerry looked behind her, and when she saw the guards, she ran as fast as her legs could carry her. Jerry jumped over a crate, and zipped past a couple of men mending a fish net. A guard tried to jump over the same crate, but accidentally tripped on it, producing a chain reaction and made the guard behind him tumble. Jerry laughed to herself, and looked over her shoulder. A good half a dozen guards are still after her. A few people started to observe the commotion. Someone called out to her, and Jerry turned back to her path. A cart of bananas was directly up ahead. Jerry adjusted her footing, and she slid under the cart. She stood up, and brushed dirt off her clothes. Jerry glanced behind her, and started to run again.
“Now that was too close.” Jerry took a sharp turn, almost slipping, and scuttled over the gangplank and into the ship. “Let’s go! You know how this works men! Step to it!”
Enrique shouted out orders. Jerry nodded at crew, indicating that she gave Rick the authority. Jerry got into her cabin, and got out her pistol. She ran towards the railing and released a few shots, making the soldiers back off a bit. She saluted mockingly.
“It feels good t’ be on a ship again.” Enrique said, once they were far from port, and the stir had died down. “Especially under yer command, Captain Jer.” He sat on a barrel.
Jerry smiled, and sat on a crate beside him. She leaned forward and placed a hand on another barrel. “Good for you to be back again, Ricky. By the way, what about your little business?” She gestured towards the port, which was barely seen in the horizon.
“Ah well. I knew it wouldn’t last long.”
“Old seadogs ain’t meant to be stuck on land mate.” Jerry said, giving Enrique a hearty slap on the back. She looked at Blake, sprawled on the deck, his mouth hanging open. “What about him? What happened? I know your excuse about the customers ain’t right.”
Enrique looked at Blake with disgust. “I thought t’ lad could take it. ‘e’s been orderin’ a lotta drinks. Gave it to ‘im to shut ‘im up. Been blabberin’ about t’ East India Company, and that ‘e’ll be a Commodore someday… T’ avoid suspicion, I gave in ‘n’ gave ‘im all the rum ‘e could handle. And ‘e din’t handle much.” Enrique squinted, and turned back to face Jerry. “So… lassie, ye degraded yerself on this pathetic excuse for a crew? Baby sittin’ some pups?”
Jerry looked at the crew. Some of them were playing dice, some singing shanties, some doing something productive. “They were the only ones I could find on a short notice. Beckett had me go after the Fountain of Youth.”
“You know me better than that Enrique. I just needed to get away from him that time.” Jerry related to him what happened. The ship, the questioning, the disguise… Everything.
“’e gave someone to guard you, eh? Why not just toss ‘im off ‘t’ ship?” Enrique offered. “I’ll be glad t’ get rid of t’ li’l bilge rat.”
Jerry looked at Blake, who was now curled up in a fetal position. “He might be of some use to us. Not yet. Besides, he’ll warm up to the idea of piracy. I’ll make sure of it… he may be a member of the crew soon enough.”
Enrique scoffed. “I still don’t trust ‘im.”
“Keep an eye on him then.” Jerry said, standing up. “I still need to plot our exact course towards the fountain, and with the ring I could finally manage to do it.”
“I thought you ain’t gonna follow the orders?”
“I’m not following.” Jerry smiled at Enrique. “A li’l surprise for them would be nice. Leviathan mate… it’s still there, remember?” She smiled coyly. “Besides, I want to help out in the fight a bit… Diminish a few EIC ships and all that mate…”
Enrique smiled slowly, as he figured out what Jerry just said. “Ah mate. Glad t’ see yer back on yer game again.”
Jerry winked, and walked into her cabin. She poked her head out of the door. “I’m not to be disturbed.”
