What makes a plot too cliché? Is there a certain thing?

It isn't to cliche.

cliche-a trite, stereotyped expression; a sentence or phrase, usually expressing a popular or common thought or idea, that has lost originality, ingenuity, and impact by long overuse, as sadder but wiser, or strong as an ox.

Straight from dictionary.com

I'm pretty sure neither story is cliche.

Who said it?If it was KingOFKings or whatever he said the same about Summer Changed. He has no taste.

Esaul, I think one of the only reasons you did this thread was so you could use the e with the little accent-ague. I have seen it alot scince the first time.

I wonder if my assumption is right, or probably wrong.

After all, I am as dumb as a doorknob.

That was meant to cliched, just so you know. It was also fictual.

Since the LoTR movies, isn't everything cliche when it comes to fantasy books using elves, dwarves, and ork like monster/enemies? Those are the first things that come to my mind when I think fantasy.

So if cliche= " expressing a popular or common thought or idea " ...

I don't know doh.png

I wouldn't worry about it guys. I think we're okay. I don't think any of our writing is cliche since its our own writing and ideas and not someone else's that we're rewriting.

I agree, so what if something seems the same, it still is coming from a whole different person.

Something I heard once:

"There is really no true originality left in this world, and by this I am haunted. Yet, it brings me hope that people will strive to make something great, something that will truly stand out. Not because it is controversial, not because it is famous, but because it is original in each and every way."

Now tell me this, what book did this come from, it isn't that easy to figure out. I can say this though, it comes from one of my favorite books.

Its really hard not to have settings/pliots/characters that havent been used in a similar fashion possibly even many times before. I try to think of original ideas and strange but cool..somewhat new things. Thats why fantasy/sci-fi is what I like the most.

I wouldn't know Cliche if it egged my house, keyed the paint job on my car, and carved "CLICHE" into my skin. I'm that bad. So, I guess I'm not much of a help...

it's all good. blink.png
