Chapter One-How Life Changes
Emerald Martinson sat quietly in the car; she was headed to live with her grandmother on her mother’s side, Minerva McGonagall. As the car drove on Emerald thought about her life before now. Until recently she had lived with her Aunt Charlotte in Toulouse, France.
Emerald reminisced: It was sunny on that fateful Thursday morning just two days ago. The night before Emerald had said that fatal word, the word she promised she would never say again.
“Goodnight my dear Em,” Aunt Charlotte had said, she was Emerald’s father’s little sister.
“Night,” Emerald had answered.
“I love you darling.”
Emerald paused then said “I love you too Aunt Charlotte,” and headed to bed.
The next morning the house was full of police and medical people. Emerald slowed, her jade eyes suddenly filled with worry, and she went to the man who looked to be in charge. His nameplate read: Pierre Borenu, and all kinds of other stuff about his ranking.
“Excusez-moi Monsieur Borenu. Est-ce que tu as parle anglais?” Emerald asked in some of the little French that she knew.
“Yes I do Mademoiselle,” he said in a very thick accent that was hard to understand.
“What’s going on? Why are you here?”
“Perhaps you should sit,” Borenu suggested.
Emerald sat on a nearby couch, tucking her golden curls behind her ears. Pierre sat opposite her in a plush chair, the on that Charlotte said had bad vibes.
“If I am correct, Mademoiselle Martinson was you aunt?” he asked.
“Yes sir,” she answered.
“There was a terrible accident early this morning,” he said “A neighbor called, said she heard noises, banging. We came as soon as possible, but your aunt was already dead.”
“How did she die?” Emerald asked, choking on the tears threatening to fall.
“We’re not sure yet,” he answered “There are no visible injuries, it may have been poison, we aren’t yet sure.”
Emerald said nothing, she just sat staring as tears welled up in her eyes and slid down her cheeks. It had happened again, she was back two years ago, when her parents had died.
She was twelve then, and her mother had been trying to convince her to talk to the lady next door.
“She’s creepy mom, I don’t want to,” Emerald whined.
“Why not?” Kelly, her mother, asked.
“Is she really and evil witch who’s conspiring with the dark lord’s soul in order to take over America?”
“Em honey, who told you that?” Kelly asked.
“One of the kids from school, he said…”
Kelly interrupted her “She is not an evil witch she’s a good witch, she was your father’s tutor.”
Emerald agreed to take a pie to Mrs. Adams, didn’t stay long. She quickly raced home and ran into her room, slamming the door behind her. Soon there was a knock on her door and Kelly opened it with Damien, Emerald’s father.
“Going to bed pumpkin?” Damien asked.
“Yes, night mom, night dad, I love you,” Emerald said.
Her parents said ‘I love you’ back and then left the room. The next morning a social worker took her away and told her that her parents had been killed. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Suddenly the car jerked to a stop, and once again Emerald was fifteen and sitting outside her grandmother’s house. The driver opened the car door then grabbed the few bags that Emerald had brought with her. She stared at the house in awe, it wasn’t’ like her parent’s cottage, or her aunt’s condo, this house was like a castle.
“Right this way missy, your grand-mum’s been expectin’ you,” the driver said.
Emerald still wasn’t used to the accents, going from Salem, Massachusetts, then to Toulouse, France, and now she would be living in London, England. She silently followed the driver up to the grand house, and he knocked. Presently and elderly lady came to the door, her gray hair was in a tight bun, her face was stern and she was dressed in black robed.
“Emerald, I’m sure you can get your own bags?” Minerva asked, Emerald just nodded “Good, then you sir, here is your money, you may leave,” she said while handing the money to the driver.
He tipped his hat and hurried to his car, Emerald watched him go. Then she grabbed her bags and followed her grandmother into the house, and to her new room. It was plain, and dark. The sheets on the bed were a red color, the comforter was black.
“You can decorate as you please. I hope the ride wasn’t to long.”
“I could have gotten here myself.”
“Yes well, I’m not to sure that that would be smart at this time,” McGonagall answered, “Besides I don’t know how those American ‘Orbing’ techniques work.”
“I can show you,” Emerald suggested.
“Maybe some other time,” Minerva said, “Besides, I don’t think my old heart could handle that just now. Not with all that’s going on.”
Emerald looked down “I’m sorry to hear about Dumbledore, everyone respected him.”
“Yes well,” Minerva cleared her throat “Not everyone knew him as well as I did.”
“If you want to talk to I’m here, I know what it’s like to loose people…who are close to you,” Emerald said.
“I’ll keep that in mind,” Minerva answered, leaving, but stopping “Has anyone ever told you that you look just like your mother?”
“Yes you did every time you came to visit us,” Emerald answered.
“Of course, I’ll let you unpack,” with that she left Emerald to unpack.
As soon as her grandmother was gone Emerald throw herself down on the bed and sighted deeply. She would have nothing to do on her summer holiday’s, because of the fact that she didn’t know anyone, then when school started again she wouldn’t be attending, her training was not to take place at Hogwarts but with a private tutor. Emerald thought about who her tutor would be, seeing as she was a Salem Witch the tutor would have to be very experienced. Salem Witches and Wizards used their mind to do all their magic; they had no use for wands.
With another sigh Emerald pushed herself out of bed and started to unpack. She put all her clothes into the old dresser, and some in the closet; her books went on the bookshelf above the desk. The rest of her stuff went into her closet, along with the suitcases.
When she was done she went downstairs and to the sitting room, the first thing she noticed was the head in the fireplace, the man’s head was talking to her grandmother.
“Minerva, it’s wonderful of you to take over as headmistress, but who will teach the empty positions?” the head asked.
“I haven’t yet thought of that, perhaps I can find someone who has already taught at Hogwarts.”
“I’m not so sure they’d want to teach again, they would have left for a reason,” the head answered.
Emerald walked into the room on tiptoes, but her gram still heard her. Minerva, and the head both turned to face her.
“Oh Emerald, this is Arthur Weasley,” Minerva said indicating the head “Arthur, my grand-daughter, Emerald.”
“How do you do?” the head, or Arthur Weasley, said with a slight nod.
“Fine, and you?” Emerald asked, she knew all about being polite.
“Oh I’m just fine, well as fine as I can be given the situation,” Arthur answered.
“Emerald, why don’t you take a look around the house, you may find something of interest,” Minerva suggested.
So Emerald set of around looking into rooms and examining objects. When she got bored she went out side and sat in the garden, which was I full bloom and beautiful, she thought about what living with her grand-mother would bring, as she thought she reached out and pulled a rose gently to her nose and smelt it’s terrific fragrance. This smell was one she knew well, her first boyfriend had bought her a rose, of course that ended when her aunt found out.
“Emerald? Oh there you are,” Minerva had just come into the garden “I see you found the garden to be of interest. Anyway I have a few things to do, Arthur needs my assistance, would you like to come with me?”
“Sure,” Emerald answered, it would be nice to meet some new people.
“The Weasley’s have a daughter your age, Ginny. She attends Hogwarts.” Emerald smiled, at least for the summer she would have someone to hang out with. Minerva went to the fireplace, told Emerald to say ‘The Burrow’ and then let her go. When Emerald came through, brushing soot off her jeans she found herself in a cluttered kitchen.
“Ah Emerald, welcome,” Arthur greeted her as McGonagall came out of the fireplace.
“Hey,” a girl with bright orange shoulder length hair said “I’m Ginny.”
“Hi, I’m Emerald.”
“Come on, let’s go outside,” Ginny said, leading Emerald outside.
The back yard was full of chairs, and many red-haired people. Ginny waved to a girl with brown, busy hair, a boy with the same shad of hair as hers, and a boy with jet black hair, all three hurried over.
“Hey Ginny,” the busy haired girl said.
“Hey Hermione, “Ginny answered then she turned to Emerald “That’s my brother Ron,” she pointed to the red-head “And his friend Harry Potter,” the black haired boy “The girl is Hermione Granger” then she looked at the trio “This is Professor McGonagall’s grand-daughter, Emerald Martinson.”
“So McGonagall is you grand-mother, what’s she like when she’s not teaching? Harry joked.
“Yeah is she still stern? Ron also joked.
“No, she’s the typical grandmother,” Emerald answered.
“Kids, what are you standing around for? Ronald come help Fred and George set up chairs!” a plump lady with red-hair yelled.
“Coming mum!” Ron hollered back “Nice meeting you,” he said to Emerald. Emerald nodded, she couldn’t explain why her heart fluttered when she meet his eyes, but it did. Soon Harry left also and it was just Emerald, Hermione, and Ginny sitting under the shade of an old oak tree.
“Do you think Harry will ever ask me out again?” Ginny asked.
“I’m sure once Voldermort is dead and Harry knows you safe, he’ll asked you back out,” Hermione said.
“I hope so,” Ginny said sighing.
Hermione just smiled, then turned to Emerald “So where’d you move her from?”
“Toulouse,” Emerald answered “But I was born in Salem, Massachusetts.”
“Cool, Salem sounds like an interesting place to visit and France must be a nice place,” Hermione said.
“Yeah it’s okay, I miss it already,” Emerald said.
“Oh no her comes mum, she’s going to ask us to help,” Ginny groaned.
"Goodness, how rude of you not to introduce your friend to me Ginerva! I’ll do it my self,” the woman turned to Emerald “I’m Molly Weasley, and you must be Emerald.”
“Hello Mrs. Weasley,” Emerald said.
Molly smiled “Now Hermione, Harry has asked me to ask you why you’ve suddenly stopped helping him.”
Hermione smiled and hurried to join Harry and Ron, Molly was right behind her. A little later, not even five minutes, Minerva came out and Emerald went home. That night she dreamed about Ron, and his shy smile. In the dream she was hanging out with Ginny, when Ron came up and wanted to talk to her. They ended up kissing and Emerald actually felt the kiss on her lips, and she was sure she had a smile on her face for the rest of the night, until the dream turned into a nightmare.
In this nightmare she was running through woods she didn't recognize, she kept glancing behind her but there was never anything there, she continued to run anyway. Up ahead she could see people, and flashes of light, but she never seemed to get any closer, if anything it got farther away. She speed up her run, but just as she could make out faces something, or someone, grabbed her from behind. Emerald woke up with a small scream, she looked over at her nightstand, it was only 1:00 am. With a sigh she fell back against her pillows.
The nightmare was quickly fading away, but she remembered the clearing at the end of the woods, and she remembered the faces she saw. One had been Harry Potter's, he had been fighting someone who had his back to Emerald, but she didn't need to see the face to know that it was Lord Voldermort, Harry's biggest enemy. She had also seen her grandmother out there, but instead of fighting Minerva was helping those who were injured.
With another sigh Emerald rolled over, she was just drifting into sleep when a thought shook her back to earth. She remembered being told about how the Last Battle would involve Harry vs. Voldermort, and all other capable wizards and witched against the Death Eaters. Emerald wondered if perhaps she had been thinking about that before she fell asleep, or if perhaps it was a premonition of sorts. She decided her brain would work better in the morning, and she fell back to sleep. This time only happy dreams entered her head.

HAHAHA FINALLY!!
Chapter Two-Not Only Happy Tears "Em, wake up!" Minerva called, banging on her granddaughters door.
"I'm up gram," Emerald answered swinging open her bedroom door.
"Good, I thought you'd sleep all day," Minerva said, "Bill and Fleur are having their wedding tomorrow and since I'm invited you'll have to come."
"But I don't even know them," Emerald said. "You met their family yesterday, or at least some of Bill's, and you have to come, I won't leave you alone."
"Fine but I'm going to feel way out of place," Emerald complained.
"Well we'll need dresses I suppose," Minerva said, with a slight frown.
"Right, this is going to be interesting," Emerald said.
"Yes is will be," Minerva said "I don't enjoy dressing up, it's just...well, not me, but anyway get into some descent clothes and we'll go shopping."
Emerald closed her door and dug through her dresser, she mostly had muggle clothes, seeing as in America she went to school among them, and was home schooled in magic. Of course if she was shopping in Diagon Alley that wouldn't do any good, but she was pretty sure that Diagon Alley didn't sell wedding worthy dresses. She put on a pair of blue jeans and a light blue tee shirt that read 'Nearly Perfect' then she hurried downstairs.
"Gram I'm ready," Emerald called, putting her hair p as she walked.
"Oh good," Minerva said, she too was dressed as a muggle, in a work suit "Does this look right?"
"If your going to work," Emerald said "Or if you’re all business."
"Perfect. Let's get this over with," Minerva said.
Emerald smiled, her grand mother seemed like very strict person, so the suit suited her. She followed her gram outside, to a waiting cab; the same guy was behind the wheel.
"Gram, how did you get the same cab driver as last time?" Emerald asked.
"Oh he's an undercover wizard, he mingles with muggles to see if they suspect anything of the magic world," Minerva answered getting into the cab.
"Minerva, that muggle money did me good yesterday. I went to a pub and overheard some muggles muttering about weird happenings," the cab driver said.
"Good to hear," Minerva responded, "We need to go to a dress store please."
"All righty then," the cab driver said, and he pulled away from the house.
Emerald sat quietly in the back seat, thinking about what a wedding would be like. She'd heard how beautiful they were, and how much fun it could be. They drove on for a while longer before the cab driver parked in front of a fancy dress store.
"Ere we are ladies," he announced "Have, fun shopping'" Minerva smiles and got out after Emerald, and together they entered the dress store.
"Good Morning ma'am, can I help you?" an elderly woman asked, walking up to them as soon as they entered.
"No thank you, we're just looking," Minerva answered.
The lady smiled politely and went back behind the register, while Minerva and Emerald headed to the back of the store. Emerald was looking through some light blue dresses when Minerva called her over.%

Chapter Three-Follow Your Heart Emerald awoke the next morning to the sound of whispered voices. She opened her eyes and saw Fred and Ginny talking quietly to each other. Fred looked angry, Ginny looked upset.
“You knew all along?” Fred asked angrily “Why didn’t you say anything?”
“Ron asked me not to,” Ginny said “Besides if I did mum would have stopped them.”
“Exactly,” Fred growled, “They could die Ginny! They should have been stopped.”
“But Ron made me promise,” Ginny said, defeated.
“If he made you promise to use the killing curse on him would you?” Fred asked, “Because you’ve basically signed his death certificate,” Fred said turning to leave.
“He didn’t tell me what I was promising to, until after I promise,” Ginny said nearly in tears “You taught him that.”
Fred didn’t say anything; he just left the room, shutting the door behind him. Ginny broke into tears, and collapsed on her bed “I didn’t know,” she mumbled.
“Ginny, are you okay?” Emerald asked sitting up.
Ginny just looked up at her and said, “I have to go after them.”
“You can’t, you don’t know where they are,” Emerald said.
“They used floo powder to throw my mum off. Once out of the Burrow they Apparated to ‘Godric’s Hollow’.” Ginny said, “With any luck they’ll still be there.”
“Ginny are you crazy? Your mother is going through enough right now, don’t hurt her more.”
“I have to go after them,” Ginny repeated she got up and started filling a bag with clothes.
“What good will it do, you can’t Apparate,” Emerald tried.
“No but you can Orb,” Ginny responded looking up “Will you help me?”
“No way,” Emerald said, “I am not helping you break your mother’s heart again.”
“If you don’t help me then I’ll just go on my own,” Ginny said “It may take longer, and I may get lost, but what ever.”
“Guilt trips don’t work on me,” Emerald said.
“Please,” Ginny begged, “I need you, and you won’t get in any trouble, I promise.”
“I don’t know Ginny,” Emerald said.
“Well thing about it, I’m going to change,” Ginny said leaving her room.
Emerald sighed ‘I guess I have to help her’ she thought. She then orbed a pair of jeans and a tee shirt to her, along with a backpack full of clothes. After a few more minutes Ginny came back, and Emerald stood up.
Ginny noticed the bag on Emerald’s shoulder and cocked her eyebrow “Decided to come?” she asked.
“I can’t leave you alone on a dangerous journey like this,” Emerald said with a shrug. “So it was the guilt trip then?” Ginny said.
“Yeah, maybe,” Emerald said, “When are we leaving?”
“Now,” Ginny answered, “We have to catch them quickly.”
“Okay let’s go,” Emerald said, Ginny grabbed her bag and then grabbed Emerald’s arm “Brace yourself, it feels strange at first,” Emerald said.
She concentrated on the location she wanted to get to and closed her eyes. When she opened her eyes she noticed that she seemed to be in a group of trees.
Ginny released her arm “Em, is this it?” she asked.
“How should I know?” Emerald asked.
“Try again, but can you orb to them?” Ginny asked.
“I can try,” Emerald answered grabbing Ginny’s hand and focusing on the three she was looking for.
“Oh, and try and hide a little,” Ginny said as they orbed away.
So Emerald shifted her focus slightly, she still concentrated on finding the trio but she also thought about orbing a safe distance away. When she felt her feet touch the ground she looked up, and she noticed lots of trees around her.
“I don’t think it worked,” Emerald whispered “I must have been concentrated to hard on the hidden part.”
“Shh,” Ginny said “Em did you hear voiced?”
“No,” Emerald answered but before she could say more Ginny shushed her again “Okay, I did hear them. Do you think it’s them?”
“I don’t know, but keep your voice down it could be…some one else,” Ginny whispered.
“If it’s not them we’re in trouble. I can’t orb to close together,” Emerald explained.
“Why not? And why are you telling me this now?” Ginny asked.
“I didn’t tell you because I didn’t realize we’d be Orbing back to back, and to answer why not it’s just that…well I can’t explain right now,” Emerald said.
“Why not?” Ginny asked.
“Because whoever's out there is getting closer,” Emerald said.
“Oh, not good, what are we going to do?” Ginny asked.
“Magic,” Emerald answered, when Ginny looked skeptical Em continued, “I can read minds…sometimes anyway.”
“If it works, and it’s who we’re looking for its no big deal,” Emerald said.
“And if it’s not them?” Ginny asked.
“They track me down and kill me. That’s why I can’t orb to much, enemies can track my powers when I use them to often,” Emerald explained.
“Then no way, not going to happen,” Ginny said.
“I may have to,” Emerald said, as a twig snapped even closer to them “Quickly too.”
“Em no!” Ginny said a little to loudly, the foot steps died out “Oppsy, hope it’s not Death Eaters.”
“Or a member of the Dark Angels,” Emerald muttered.
“Who? What?” Ginny asked.
“Big bad guys in Salem, they’ve been around forever, nearly killed off my family line,” Emerald answered, “They may have been the ones who killed my parents and aunt.”
“We’re doomed,” Ginny groaned.
“We are if those people are who I think they are,” Emerald said pulling Ginny closer to the ground and pointing off to the side.
“Sweet!” Ginny said “Well I mean better then if it was a Death Eater or something.”
“Do you think they saw us?” Emerald asked.
“No way if they did Ron would have exploded,” Ginny said.
Until then the girls had been crouched down with their heads together, now they looked up. That’s when they both noticed that the trio was gone.
“Where are they?” Ginny asked.
“I don’t know, they must’ve moved on while we were talking,” Emerald said.
“Or maybe someone distracted the boys so that they wouldn’t confront you,” a voice said behind them.
Ginny and Emerald screamed and turned. Then they let out a sigh of relief.
“Hermione, you scared me,” Ginny said “Thank goodness it’s only you.”
“Umm…maybe that’s not such a good thing,” Emerald said “She looks really…”
“Angry! You bet I am. Ginny how could you do this? You promised your brother that you would help your mother out,” Hermione said.
“I also promised not to tell, and I didn’t!” Ginny exclaimed “But I did get freaked at by Fred, and he made me fell really bad.”
“Look just go home and I won’t say anything,” Hermione said.
“We can’t, Em can’t use her magic to close together,” Ginny said “So we’re stuck.”
“Hermione are you coming?” Ron’s voice called from the distance.
“So you’re saying I should tell them you’re here right?” Hermione asked “Or are you going to leave so that I can go on?”
“No way, we’re not leaving,” Ginny said.
“Ginny, maybe we should just leave,” Emerald said, “I don’t way to be the ‘trouble making’ friend.”
“That’s a smart thought,” Hermione commented.
“Well it’s not going to happen,” Ginny responded.
“Hermione let’s go,” Harry called, his voice getting closer.
“Suit yourself. Ron! Harry! Come see who decided to drop in!” Hermione hollered.
“I don’t care what anyone says, I’m staying,” Ginny said defiantly.
“The hell you are,” Ron said directly behind her “And how did you get here anyway?”
“That would be my fault,” Emerald said.
“You?” Harry asked surprised “How?”
“Well, I orbed,” Emerald answered.
“I made her take me, I laid on the guilt trip,” Ginny turned to the guy’s “And I’m…we’re not going back.”
“Yes you are, right now,” Ron said “You shouldn’t have come in the first place.”
“We can’t okay. We just can’t,” Ginny said “And I won’t.”
“Ginny let’s just go,” Emerald said, “I can make it.”
“No,” Ginny said turning on her “ We aren’t leaving, at least I’m not.”
“Ginny you shouldn’t of even come after us,” Harry said.
“And you’ve made it worse by dragging someone else into a dangerous situation,” Hermione scolded.
“I’m sorry,” Ginny said “But I had to come, you don’t understand.”
“Maybe you should make us then,” Ron said, “Because right now I’m just thinking you’re being extremely stupid.”
“I don’t care what you think!” Ginny yelled, “I can’t go home and just hope you guys are okay.”
“Just go home,” Hermione said.
“How many times do I have to say no?” Ginny asked, “Just let me stay.”
“You can’t stay,” Ron said, “Mum needs you.”
Before Ginny could answer Harry interrupted “Did you hear that?”
Ginny opened her mouth to speak, but instead ended up ducking down and letting out a little scream. A blast of magic had just barley missed her, and instead hit a nearby tree.
“Look, there’s no time to argue, we need to find a safe place to hide first,” Hermione said.
“Home is the only place Ginny is going,” Ron said.
“Ginny come on let’s go,” Emerald said, her eyes wide “These people mean trouble.”
“Emerald, take her back to the Burrow before she can argue more,” Harry said.
Emerald nodded and grabbed Ginny’s arm, as they began to orb, Ginny began to struggle. Emerald lost her grip, and Ginny fell to the ground Emerald went down after her, materializing when she landed.
“Nice going, you broke my concentration, we could have landed anywhere,” Emerald said.
“We landed behind a group of Death Eaters so if you don’t mind shutting up, then we might live,” Ginny hissed through her teeth.
“We’re dead,” Emerald groaned, “If they saw the light of us Orbing down, they’ll kill us.”
“Relax, their to busy trying to kill my brother, Hermione, and Harry to be worried about a little glowing,” Ginny responded “Now if I can get at just the right angle, I may be able to distract them,” she continued, taking out her wand.
“You’ll be expelled, let me do it,” Emerald said. She concentrated on the Death Eater’s roves and soon a flame appeared, spreading fast up the length. It took a few minutes for the Death Eaters to figure out that the attack had come from behind them.
“Duck,” Emerald whispered as the Death Eaters turned.
The girls ducked behind a big boulder hoping that they hadn’t been seen. The angry voices had stopped and silence fell all around them. Ginny looked at Emerald with a questioning look, Emerald just shrugged. Ginny poked her head up, and quickly ducked down again.
“Their still out there, and I think they did see something,” Ginny said.
“What do you mean?” Emerald asked.
“Their in a circle, talking and they got closer to where Harry, Ron and Hermione are standing, or were standing,” Ginny responded.
“You don’t think anyone’s hurt, do you?” Emerald asked.
“Only one way to find out,” Ginny said grabbing hold of Emerald’s hand “Orb us over there again.”
“That’s not such a good idea,” Emerald said “They may see us.”
“Then I’ll just try to sneak over. I have to make sure that the Death Eaters don’t see me,” Ginny said.
“Okay,” Emerald said gripping Ginny’s hand tighter and Orbing back to Ron, Harry and Hermione.
“Oh man,” Ginny sighed “Where are they?”
Emerald looked around “I don’t know.”
“Reach out with your mind,” Ginny said.
“Okay I’ll try,” Emerald answered, closing her eyes tight.
She pushed her mind trying to find another mind to push into. After a few minutes she hit a block and pushed harder. Upon entering the mind she realized she didn’t know what to look for, and left.
“What should I look for?” Emerald asked.
“I don’t know, whatever you think is important,” Ginny said “Focus on a certain person if you can.”
“All right,” Emerald said “I’ll try I’ve never done this before though.”
“Focus on Ron then, I know secrets about him,” Ginny said “I’ll tell you what to find.”
Emerald focused on Ron’s face, picturing his smile, then she thought about entering his mind. To her surprise she pushed through a barrier and squeezed Ginny’s hand letting her know she was in.
“He was three,” Ginny said “Fred tricked him into running away. Ron go lost, mum went berserk.”
“It’s him,” Emerald said “Their close by, it was too east to get into his mind, he must be scared or…” Emerald opened her eyes.
“Or what?” Ginny asked.
“No, then his mind would have been blank, he’s just distracted is all.”
“We need to find them and fast,” Ginny said.
“Okay, I hit the slight block when I tuned my mind that way,” Emerald said pointing to the left of Ginny.
Ginny turned and walked out into the woods, Emerald followed close behind. As they walked Ginny held her arms out to her side as if feeling her way along. Emerald followed behind her, giving her a strange look. Suddenly Ginny’s had stopped in mid air and she turned to face it.
“There’s something here,” Ginny said.
“I don’t see anything,” Emerald responded.
Ginny grabbed what seemed to be the air and pulled.
“Whoa,” Emerald said, as Harry magically appeared in front of them.
“Where are Ron and Hermione?” Ginny asked.
“They Apparated away a few minutes ago,” Harry answered “I stayed, I thought I heard you two.”
“But the Death Eaters,” Emerald said “What if they saw you?”
“Relax,” Harry mumbled “I’ve got my cloak. You two need to get out of here quick.”
“You need to leave as well,” Ginny said “Go find Ron and Hermione.”
“Okay, let’s go now Ginny,” Emerald said “Harry I can take you to if you want.”
“All right, let’s go,” Harry said “And quick here come some Death Eaters.”
Emerald turned around saw the Death Eaters and quickly grabbed both Harry and Ginny and orbed away. As she orbed she pictured Ron and Hermione, and hoped she landed in the right place.
“You’re okay,” Hermione called as soon as they landed.
“Where’s Ron?” Ginny asked.
“He went to look around,” Hermione answered.
Emerald looked around her, and saw that they were in a run down building. There were cracks running down the walls and the ceiling was crumbling down. Suddenly a rat ran out of a hole in the wall, causing Ginny to jump and scream.
“This place is creepy,” Ginny said “Why would you Apparate here?”
“We just needed to get away, and be hidden,” Hermione said.
“Your both okay though right?” Harry asked “You didn’t get hit with any thing did you?”
“No Harry we’re both fine,” Hermione said “I was just worried about you three, I didn’t know if you all got away. Specifically the fact that Ginny may have screwed those twos escapes up.”
“We’re fine, Emerald distracted them,” Ginny said “She set the Death Eaters robes on fire.”
“You could have got killed,” Hermione said.
“You’re not our mother Hermione,” Ginny said “And we’re clearly not dead.”
“And clearly not home,” Ron said leaning in a nearby doorway.
“We were just leaving,” Emerald said grabbing Ginny’s arm.
Ginny pulled away, “No we’re not! Or at least I’m not, you go ahead if you want.”
“I can’t leave you behind, what if you need to get home?” Emerald countered.
“ I thought so,” Ginny said.
“Fine I’m done fighting with you, stay if you want,” Ron said walking toward them “But first time you come close to getting hurt in any way, your going home.”
“And that goes for either of you, one gets near injury the other leave too,” Hermione said.
“Agreed,” Emerald said, nudging Ginny.
With a sigh Ginny said “I agree too.”
“All right, are you two crazy?” Harry asked Ron and Hermione “They can’t come, they’re to young.”
“I’m a year younger than you,” Ginny snapped “And I’m sick of people treating me like a baby.”
“Oh boy this could get ugly,” Hermione mumbled.
“No one is treating you like a baby,” Ron said.
“Whatever let’s just get out of here. It’s creeping me out a lot,” Ginny said.
“Where are we going to go? That need to be discussed before we leave,” Ginny said “Otherwise we’ll all end up in a different place.”
“Grimauld Place,” Harry said “It’ll be free.”
“What about the Order?” Ron asked.
“Relax they’ll never know,” Hermione said “We’ll stay hidden.”
“Um…what’s Grimauld Place, or where is it?” Emerald asked.
“I’ll think about it,” Ginny said, grabbing Emerald’s hand “Let’s go.” With that Emerald orbed, with Ginny clinging tightly to her. She was hoping that Ginny thinking about their destination would work

Chapter Four-Silent as Mice Emerald expected to land inside a house, instead she was standing in front of a bunch of houses. “I thought we were going to be inside, what if someone saw us?” she asked.
Ginny let go of her arm “We were. What happened?” she asked turning to Harry.
He shrugged, so Hermione answered, “It must have been magically protected. The order must be afraid that someone would find it.”
“Can’t we just walk in?” Emerald asked.
“Sure. If they didn’t lock the door,” Harry said “Otherwise we have no way in.”
“Great!” Ginny said dejectedly sitting in the grass.
“If it is locked I could knock and ask for my grandmother,” Emerald said.
“Will that work?” Ron asked.
“It could, but what if Professor McGonagall is there?” Hermione asked, “Em is supposed to be at the Weasley’s house.”
“It’s worth a try,” Emerald said “And it’s only if the doors are locked.”
“Okay one problem. That doesn’t actually get us in, it only gets the door opened,” Ginny said.
“If the doors locked we could try to magic it open,” Ron offered.
“No way,” Harry said, “If we can’t Apparate in then our wands won’t work either.”
“There is a way to stop a door from locking,” Emerald said “All you have to do is stick something between the lock and were it connects to lock it up.”
“That’s what thieves do,” Hermione said.
“We’re not going to rob them,” Emerald said, “We just need somewhere to stay.”
Ginny suddenly jumped up “Em orb the lock to you!”
“Are you kidding? That’ll never work,” Emerald said.
“Try it,” Ron said, “If there’s no lock we can walk right in.”
“And you can put it back afterwards,” Hermione said, “No one will ever know.”
“Fine I’ll try,” Emerald said “I like the other plans better though,” she held out her had but Harry stopped her “What?” she asked turning to him.
“It won’t work,” Harry said, “If you can’t orb in then you can’t orb things out.”
Ginny sat back down on the ground; Hermione sat next to her thinking. Ron was leaning against a street lamp, when suddenly Emerald gasped. Before her eyes a house appeared, squeezing it’s way into the street.
“Someone’s leaving,” Harry said “We have to hide.”
“No, the barrier will be down,” Hermione said “We can get in.”
Ginny jumped up and grabbed Emerald’s arm as she began to orb. Emerald faintly heard pops and knew that Harry, Ron and Hermione were close behind them. When the girls’ feet touch ground Emerald looked around. They seemed to be in a bedroom, a dusty old bedroom that wasn’t very welcoming.
“This is were I slept when we stayed here,” Ginny whispered “It was the only place I could think of that might have been empty.”
“Right, lets find the other three,” Emerald said and the two girls quietly left the room.
They waited a few seconds, then heard whispered voices coming down the stairs. Ginny gave Emerald’s arm a little tug and pulled her back into the room, shutting the door only slightly.
“Don’t worry, we’ll keep an eye out for them,” a young female voice said “Although I doubt they’d come near here.”
“All the same,” a voice Emerald recognized as her grandmother said “I’ll feel better knowing that your looking Tonks.”
The voices continued down the stairs and once they were out of ear shot Ginny whispered “Great they’ve go an aura looking for us.”
“We’ve got to hurry,” Emerald said.
This time when they left the room the ran into the trio “Did McGonagall and Tonks just go by?” Hermione asked.
“Yes,” Emerald said “It’s a good thing I didn’t knock.”
“This place isn’t as safe as I thought it would be,” Harry mumbled.
“It was our best bet,” Ron said “If we don’t stay we’re going to have to at least wait until we have some idea of where we’re going.”
“Ron’s right,” Hermione agreed.
“Come on, we can talk freely in here,” Ginny said pulling everyone into the bedroom.
“Are there any pictures in here?” Harry asked.
“No,” Ginny answered “We’re safe in here.”
“We don’t have long, the picture in the bedroom we landed in spotted us,” Ron said “If the old geezer knows their looking for us it’s only a matter of time.”
“If my grandmother’s here her house will be empty,” Emerald said.
“We don’t know how long she’ll be here,” Hermione said “We could go to my house, but they may look there.”
“What about Hogsmeade?” Ginny asked.
“They’ll look there,” Ron said “We need to think less obvious, more hidden.”
“Hagrid!” Harry said, “He’ll know of somewhere.”
“We can’t get onto Hogwarts ground by magic,” Hermione said “How many times…”
Ron cut her off “Who says he’s at Hogwarts. He may very well be here.”
“Well be that as it may we still can’t as him,” Emerald said “He may turn us in.”
“Hagrid would never do that!” Harry and Ron exclaimed together.
“If McGonagall suspects something she’ll go after him,” Hermione said “And he’ll cave. She’s very intimidating you know.”
“She’s right,” Ginny said “Hagrid wouldn’t be able to lie to her.”
“We can’t keep thinking like teenagers trying to hide,” Emerald said “We have to think like…something bigger, looking for a place to spend the night, or longer.”
“An aura, think like an aura,” Hermione offered.
“We should get disguises,” Ginny said.
“They’ll see right through them,” Ron said “What about a muggle place?”
“A hotel?” Hermione asked “We need money for that.”
“Shh…someone’s coming,” Emerald whispered.
Everybody got quiet as the footsteps neared then halted right outside the bedroom door. There was silence for a few moments then the sound of someone clearing they’re throat.
“They just left? No warnings, not even a sign?” a man asked.
“None that Molly or I picked up on,” the voice of Arthur Weasley responded.
“Someone must have known, and still know, exactly where they went,” the man said again.
“Fred suspects that Ginny knew, but she’s gone too,” Arthur responded.
“No one else knew?”
“I don’t think so,” Arthur answered “Although I could be wrong.”
“I’ll go out later this week and look around some places,” the man said.
“Thank you Remus,” Arthur said “I’m going to be looking as well. I can’t believe they’d do this to us.”
“Let’s get back downstairs. I believe Tonks is setting up rounds of who goes where,” the man, Remus said, then footsteps sounded walking away.
“Now what?” Ginny asked “Everyone is looking for us.’
“Maybe we can find an abandoned house somewhere,” Hermione suggested “It would be safer than it is here.”
“We’ve got another problem,” Harry said “We have no way out of here.”
“Oh yeah,” Hermione said.
“We can just sneak to the front door,” Ron said “We just have to wait until they go out on their rounds.”
“What if some of them stay?” Emerald asked.
“That’s why we sneak,” Harry said “The front door isn’t to far away.’
“Okay,” Ginny said “So we’re just going to sit here until we think they’re all gone?”
“Guess so,” Emerald said sitting on the bed nearby.
Ginny came and sat on one side of Emerald, as Hermione sat on the other side. Ron sat on the bed opposite, Harry also sat on that bed. Emerald sighed, she know wondered why she didn’t try harder to get home, now they were trapped in a room, left to guess when the coast was clear. She couldn’t help but wonder what would happen if they were caught. It was obvious they’d never be able to escape if they were seen.
Hermione must have been thinking the same thing because she said “If we’re all caught this will all be for nothing.”
“One person should go, then get a message to the others somehow,” Ron suggested.
“How?” Hermione asked “We can’t yell up the stairs. In case someone’s still here hiding.”
“Emerald can read minds,” Ginny said “Whoever goes down will just have to think that the coast is clear, or not, when they find out.”
“Perfect,” Harry said “Now who’s going to find out for us?” there was a short stretch of silence, no one wanted to go in case they got caught.
“I’ll go,” Hermione said “My parents won’t know, and if they do they won’t freak as much.”
“No, but Mrs. Weasley will,” Harry said “Are you prepared for that?”
“I’ll go,” Ron said “I’m used to it, I deal with getting yelled at by her all the time.”
“Are you sure? I’ll do it Ron,” Hermione said “I can always find you later, if you get caught you mom will watch you like a hawk. You’ll never get out of the house again,” Hermione offered.
“I’m positive,” Ron said.
“All right,” Harry said “Now we just need to wait until the right time.”
“How will we know?” Ginny asked.
“Well we can hear noises downstairs right?” Hermione said “Whispers and such. So when all that stops that’s when Ron will go.”
“What happens if he gets caught?” Emerald asked “What will we do then?”
“We wait some more,” Hermione said “Then I’ll sneak down. No matter what Harry can’t get caught.”
“If Hermione gets caught I’ll go,” Ginny said “After that Emerald will have to go, and find some way to get back to Harry.”
“Let’s think positive,” Ron said “The chances of me getting caught are nearly the same as all of us getting out safely.”
“He’s right,” Harry said “Let’s just no think about it for a while, until it’s time anyway.”
“I can’t just sit and wait to see what happens,” Ginny sighed “It’s going to be so boring.”
“What do you want us to do then?” Ron asked “It’s not like we can just run down there right now.”
“I know,” Ginny said.
“Shh…” Hermione hushed them “I hear foot steps.”
“Not again,” Ginny moaned.
They all crowded around the door to listen.
“This rooms open Molly,” a voice said.
“Thank you Tonks,” Molly Weasley responded.
Ginny gasped as shadows came closer to the door. The five of them quickly backed away from the door.
“Why would you stay here?” Tonks was asking “What if Ginny or Ron comes home? Who will be there for them?”
“Fred and George, also Arthur when he’s not out looking,” Molly responded.
“What do we do?” Hermione asked in a whisper.
Emerald grabbed Ginny’s hand and concentrated, when she felt a change she looked into a mirror hanging nearby. It had worked, she couldn’t she her reflection, but she could see herself, and Ginny who had also gone invisible. Emerald quickly grabbed Ron’s arm while Ginny grabbed Harry. Hermione looked shocked until both Harry and Ron grabbed her.
“How did you…?” Hermione asked.
“Just a little trick I picked up from my uncle David,” Emerald responded.
The door opened as they backed up to a wall, Ron let go of Hermione, and Harry kept hold, so that they could stand completely against the wall. Molly walked in closing the door quickly behind her. emerald felt Ginny quiver, and try to back up further. Molly looked angry, and upset, she sat on a bed, and threw her bag on the other bed with a slight thump. She looked exhausted and also as if she had been crying recently.
She looked into the mirror “You look horrible Molly Weasley,” she said “And it’s no wonder, your two youngest running off and bringing those other children with them,” she sighed “But maybe this is all my fault, maybe I pushed them to much, and so they felt they had to leave,” she sighed again “Where are you?” she asked looking down “Oh I hope you’re all okay.”
There was a knock on the door “Molly it’s Minerva, may I come in?”
“Of course,” Molly called.
McGonagall entered the room, but remained in the doorway “We’re heading out, Tonks wanted to know if you’d like to accompany us?”
“Sure,” Molly answered standing up “Who’s remaining here?”
“Remus,” Minerva said “The full moons coming, he doesn’t want anything to happen.”
They left the room and closed the door, just as Emerald began to lose her magical grip. When Ginny pulled away, and Ron as well everyone became visible once again.
“You never told me you could do that,” Ginny said.
“I didn’t know if I could get that many people invisible at once,” Emerald answered “My uncle can make a whole building invisible and he doesn’t even have to be touching it.”
“We have to get out of here, and fast,” Ron said glancing towards the door.
“Only Lupin is going to be here tonight, so we have better chances,” Harry said.
“Unless he’s up,” Hermione said.
“The potion he takes keeps him asleep through his transformation, so we just need o be quiet,” Harry said “Or Ron needs to not wake him.”
“Or else I’m dead,” Ron said “I’d rather face mum,” he joked.
“Lets not freak each other out,” Ginny said “We really don’t need that.”
“They should be gone by now,” Harry said “It doesn’t take long to get out of a house.”
Ron headed towards the door, and slowly opened it. Then he walked out into the hall, as the door shut Emerald entered Ron’s mind, to follow him downstairs. She left parts of her mind open, so that she could still talk with the others and follow Ron’s mind as well.
“What’s it like to be in someone else’s mind?” Hermione asked.
“A little strange, but cool as well. You get to learn things about the person quicker this way.” Emerald answered “And parents use it to tell if their kids are lying.”
“You mean anything in Ron’s mind is open game to you right now?” Hermione asked.
“Yeah but he could always figure it out and try to block my mind,” Emerald answered, then stopped, Ron had stopped alerted by a sound.
“What’s wrong?” Harry asked.
“Someone’s downstairs, to his left, he’s near the front door,” Emerald said.
“Who is it?” Ginny asked.
“No clue,” Emerald responded “Ron hasn’t got a good look at who ever it is.”
“And he shouldn’t if he can see the person that means they’ll see him,” Hermione said.
“Too late,” Emerald said “The side door just opened, Ron doesn’t have anywhere to hide.”
“Oh not good,” Ginny said.
“Make him invisible,” Hermione urged.
Emerald concentrated as hard as she could, and noticed that it must have worked because a man walked out into the hall, and hadn’t noticed Ron.
“Well?” Ginny asked “Is he okay?”
“Yeah it worked,” Emerald answered “It really worked.”
“He’s got to get out of view and fast,” Harry said.
“Let’s go meet him,” Emerald said “We can go down quickly, and invisible. Once we get to the door we can leave as fast as possible.”
“Lets go then,” Ginny said “The sooner we get down there the sooner Ron will be out of danger.”
The four then left the room and held hands once on the landing. Then they hurried down the stairs. Ron was still standing near the front door. Then reached him and let go of each other, becoming visible again.
“Lupin’s up and about,” Ron whispered he glanced up the hall “I’m not sure where he went though.”
“Who cares,” Ginny said walking past him and opening the door “We’re leaving.”
The cold night air hit them and made Emerald with she had a sweatshirt. They walked out of the house quickly, Ron closed the door as he left, seeing as he was the last one out. Once away from the house they all stopped, it had just occurred to them that they hadn’t actually decided where they were going to go.
“Now what?” Harry asked.
“We need to find an abandoned house,” Hermione said.
“But where should we look?” Ron asked.
“Back to square one,” Ginny mumbled.
“We can still go to my gram’s house,” Emerald said “Just for awhile.”
“I hate having to be quiet though,” Ginny whined.
“We won’t have to be, unless she returns home,” Emerald said.
“It’s good enough for me,” Ron said “It’d be better then figuring out where to go next in the open.”
“And the freezing cold,” Emerald said with a shiver.
“You should have worn a sweater,” Ginny scolded.
“Sorry I forgot when you decided to go on a suicide mission,” Emerald scoffed.
“Lead the way Em,” Harry joked holding out his hand.
Once again they all linked hands and Emerald orbed them to her grandmother’s house. They landed in the attic.
“She’s less likely to come up here,” Emerald explained “This is where she put all my grandfather’s things.”
“Good thinking,” Hermione said sitting on the floor, the others sat as well at various points in the room.
Ginny sat on an old black chest, Harry sat on a kitchen style chair, which was next to a poker table, which Ron sat on. Emerald sat on a nearby windowsill, and stared out into the night.
“We have no idea where we’re going yet,” Ron said “Yet we’re all still trying to find a place to hide. We don’t know where the horocruxes are, not eve the slightest idea.”
“I know,” Harry said “I wish we knew more but we don’t so we’re just going to have to deal.”
“Someone’s coming,” Emerald said “And it’s not my grandmother.”
“Who is it?” Hermione asked walking over to the window.
“I don’t know but whoever it is their nervous, maybe scared,” Emerald answered then turning to the rest of the room she said “And defiantly up to no good.”
“Are you sure?” Harry asked “It just seems that if they were up to no good they wouldn’t be nervous.”
“Unless it’s a muggle,” Hermione said “They do stupid things but their usually scared the aren’t evil.”
“I’ll go check,” Emerald said.
“What if they’re armed?” Hermione asked.
“I have to go, I can’t let them steal anything,” Emerald said.
“I’ll go with you,” Ron said “Just in case.”
“Okay,” Emerald said, she was grateful that the moon light barely light the attic, she was sure she was blushing as she left, with Ron right behind her. as they walked quietly down the creaky satires Ron asked “So what are you planning to do if this person gets in?”
“I don’t know. I was sort of going to wing it,” Emerald said, they were now on the first floor, and heading towards the front door.
Ron grabbed Emerald’s arm, and she was sure she turned even redder, in any case, her heart beat speed up “You can’t just walk up to the door and swing it open,” Ron said.
“I was going to turn on the light,” Emerald said “Most thieves won’t enter a house that looks occupied at the moment.”
“What happens if your grandmother comes home and happens to see her light on?’ Ron asked, loosening his grip but not letting go.
“I don’t have time to deal with what ifs right now,’ Emerald said pulling her arm out of Ron’s grip and turning on the hall light, then she glanced out the window and slowly backed away “I may have been wrong.”
“What do you mean?” Ron asked, not liking the fear in Emerald’s voice.
“The knew I’d come downstairs if I sensed fear,” Emerald said, she accidentally bumped into Ron.
He turned her to face him “Who’s here?” he asked.
“They followed my magic,” Emerald said.
“Who?” Ron asked he could see shadows getting closer to the window.
“Two Dark Angels,” Emerald said, Ron looked at her in a confused way “They track magic like mine, none wand magic, and non-verbal. They’ve come to destroy me, and my magic can’t hurt them.”
“We need to get back upstairs,” Ron said, he grabbed Emerald’s hand and pushed her in front of him.
He made her go up the stairs in front of him. They where nearly to the second floor when there was an explosion downstairs. Emerald looked back, and met Ron’s eyes.
“Keep going,” he said “Just get to the attic.”
Emerald ran faster, when they reached the attic, the door was open and Ginny was standing in the doorway. She moved as her new friend and her big brother came running in.
Ron slammed the door and leaned against it “We’re in trouble,” he gasped.
“What’s going on?” Harry asked.
“We heard an explosion,” Hermione said.
“Dark Angels,” was all Emerald said.
“How’d they know you were here?” Ginny asked.
“They must have been close by when I orbed,” Emerald answered.
“What are…” Harry began.
“Can we focus please!” Ron bellowed “They’re going to be up here any minute and regardless of who they are, we can’t let them get in here, they’re dangerous from what I’ve heard,” he said this last part and looked at Emerald.
“Why can’t we just leave?” Hermione asked.
“That wouldn’t work,” Ginny said “We can’t leave Emerald and if she orbs they’ll just track her again.”
“Help me,” Ron said, in all the talking no one had noticed that Ron was struggling to hold the door shut.
“Let them in,” Hermione said pulling out her wand.
“No!” Emerald said “They’ll kill him, they leave people be, unless they help the one their after.”
Ginny ran over to help her brother, Hermione put her wand away and joined.
“Wait, we can put stuff in front of the door, Hermione help me,” Harry called “you too Em.”
Hermione and Emerald ran over to help Harry move a huge oak dresser. As they were pushing it here was sudden silence.
Then a voice called “We just want the one witch, the one with the Angel’s Blessing.” Ginny turned to look over at Emerald who whispered “They were exiled, the ones who used their birth gift of Orbing for good were rewarded extra gifts, those who used it for evil were forever banished, and want their revenge.”
“Move,” a deep voice growled “Or we’ll blast this door too.”
“We don’t have anyone that you want,” Ginny called “She’s gone.”
Instead of an answer there was a loud bang, and a huge burst of light.
“Ron!” Ginny screamed.
As the light faded Emerald saw that somehow the explosion had missed Ginny, but it had sent Ron flying. Emerald went to go see if he was okay, but Hermione pulled her back as she pulled out her wand and sent a spell flying at one of the Dark Angels, he went tumbling downstairs.
“Give us the one we want!” the other man growled.
Ginny was in a corner, very close to the intruder. The man saw her and grabbed her by her hair, she yelped in pain.
“We’ll trade,” he said.
Harry jumped forward “Let her go, she has nothing to do with this.”
“Nonsense, of course she does,” the man half barked “she helped hide the one we want.”
“Let her go,” Emerald said.
“Shut up!” the man hissed “You’ve caused enough trouble, you made us hurt your friend over there,” he pointed to Ron.
“You did that all on you own,” Harry snapped.
“If she had come to us this never would have happened.”
“Don’t listen to him Em,” Hermione said “I’ve read about them, they trick you into believing them, so you’ll come to them.”
“Fine don’t come,” the man growled “I’ll just kill this one.”
Suddenly another blast of light filled the room, but instead of one of her friends falling the deep voiced man fell backward down the stairs, dead. Ginny dropped to her knees, in shock and Emerald ran over to her, apologizing over and over.
“Ron,” Ginny said and rushed over to her brother dragging Emerald with her. He was lying on the floor his head turned slightly sideways. Emerald leaned close to him and noticed that he was still breathing.
“He’s bleeding,” Ginny mumbled.
It was true, in the blast something must have nicked his forehead because he had a small gash above his right eyebrow that was bleeding slightly.
“We have to leave,” Harry said coming over “More will come.”
“We can’t move Ron,” Ginny said “What if he’s hurt more then that?”
“Would you rather leave him here?” Harry asked “Didn’t think so,” he said when Ginny didn’t answer.
“At least wait for him to wake up,” Hermione said.
“We may not have time,” Harry said, just as Ron rolled his head over.
“We have plenty of time,” Emerald said “Trust me.”

Chapter Five-Perfectly Hidden They only really had to wait a minute or two before Ron opened his eyes. He looked around and sat up slowly with a sigh of pain.
“What happened?” he asked reaching up to hold his head, his hand touched the cut.
“They blasted the door in,” Hermione answered.
“Oh,” Ron responded “Are you guys all okay?” he asked.
“We are,” Emerald said “They aren’t,” she pointed to the door way, where you could just barely see one of the Dark Angel’s feet sticking up.
“Where’s Harry?” Ron asked looking around again.
“He went downstairs to keep watch,” Ginny said “He thinks they’ll show up again.”
“He’s alone?” Ron asked “What if they come back and ambush him?”
“Relax,” Hermione said “We can leave now, if you’re ready to go that is.”
“Yeah,” Ron said getting up slowly “We’ve go to get out of here.”
“Maybe you should bandage your head,” Ginny said.
“It’s fine Ginny,” Ron said heading out of the room, Hermione, Emerald and Ginny followed behind him.
“At least clean it out,” Ginny argued, “It could get infected.”
“It’s fine,” Ron said.
“Just humor her,” Hermione said.
“All right,” Ron said exasperated
Emerald giggled slightly “There’s a bathroom connected to my room, you can use that one,” she pointed him into her room, and to the bathroom.
“You have your own bathroom?” Hermione asked, “That’s cool. My parents don’t see why I would need one of my own.”
“Guess I just got lucky,” Emerald said.
Just then Harry came up the stairs “I think McGonagall is home,” he said.
“Not good,” Ginny said.
“Get in my room,” Emerald said, “We can hide out in here, plus she won’t check here yet.”
They hurried in, shutting the door quietly behind them.
“What’s going on?” Ron asked he was just leaving the bathroom.
“My gram’s home,” Emerald said.
“Not good,” Ron muttered.
“That’s exactly what I said,” Ginny mocked.
“We need to leave,” Hermione said, “Before she gets close enough to hear us Apparate.”
“Ron can you Apparate or are you still light headed?” Ginny asked.
“I’m outta here,” Harry said “I really don’t want to be caught by McGonagall.”
“Neither do I,” Ron said “I don’t think anyone does. There’s just one thing, where do we go?”
“Let’s go back to Godric’s Hollow,” Harry said, “Maybe we’ll find a clue there, or some inspiration.”
“Possibly, but also a quiet place, where no one would check,” Hermione said.
“Good thinking,” Ron said, “So let’s go then.”
“Are you going to be able to get there all right,” Hermione asked Emerald.
“Yeah, I’ll just think of the name of the place, that works well.”
“Okay,” Hermione said.
“I still don’t think Ron should be Apparating,” Ginny said.
“There’s no time to argue,” Emerald said “My gram will be coming up those stairs any minute.”
“Fine, I won’t Apparate. I’ll orb with you two,” Ron said “Happy now?”
“Yes,” Ginny said.
“I won’t be until we’re out of here,” Emerald said grabbing Ginny’s hand, and Ron’s as well.
“She’s right,” Harry said, and then he Apparated away.
Hermione followed after and soon Emerald, Ginny and Ron were right behind them, not in a literal sense of course. When they landed they stood in front of a house.
“This is it,” Harry said “Godric’s Hollow.”
“Wow, nice house,” Emerald said after the three had landed and released hands.
“Isn’t it nice?” Hermione asked “Very cute.”
“Let’s get inside,” Harry said, walking up to the front door and going inside, the others followed behind.
“No one lives here?” Emerald asked looking around nervously.
“No it belongs to me,” Harry said “Relax no ones going to jump out and attack us.”
“Hopefully,” Ginny muttered under her breath.
“Way to be positive,” Ron said.
They were all standing in what Emerald thought must be the living room. There was still furniture, a couch, and a chair, a fireplace that still had pictures on the mantle, and a desk off in the corner.
“Okay, we’re here now what?” Hermione asked circling the couch, then sitting on the floor.
“First we relax,” Harry said “If anyone comes close we’ll hear them. Second we think, we need to find the horocruxes,” Harry also sat on the floor, across from Hermione.
“How? We don’t have any idea were they are, or even what they are,” Ron said “We’re totally in the dark on this,” he leaned back on a wall and looked at the ceiling.
“We have some clues,” Harry countered.
“It’s not enough to go on though,” Ron argued.
“Maybe Dumbledore kept some notes on his thoughts,” Ginny said “Like what he thought they may be and stuff.”
Ron looked at his sister then at Harry “She’s go a point.”
“But where would they be?” Hermione asked “His house or Hogwarts?”
“His home was Hogwarts,” Harry said “So if he had notes that’s were they would be most likely.”
Hermione sighed “And how do you purpose we get into his office? Or even onto the ground’s for that matter?”
“I didn’t think of that,” Harry said.
“Couldn’t you just go on the train?” Emerald asked “It’s only students there. Then instead of going to the feast sneak to the headmaster’s office.”
“We don’t know the password,” Ron said “And besides, one of the students would end up turning us in.”
Ginny looked thoughtfully at Harry “McGonagall might not have changed the password, and you can go on the train with your invisibility cloak.”
“That’s too risky,” Hermione said “He can’t go alone.”
“Emerald can go,” Ron said standing up straight “She can go invisible, then Harry won’t be alone.”
“What if the password has changed?” Harry asked “Then what?”
“You just guess until you get it right,” Ron said.
“No way,” Emerald said “That could take forever.”
“If its changed just think of what McGonagall might use that she’d remember but others may not think of,” Hermione said.
“Exactly,” Ginny said “Now we have to wait for school to start up again.”
“Only a week to go now right?” Ron asked looking at Hermione.
“Something like that,” Hermione said.
“What are you thinking about Hermione?” Ginny asked curiously, sitting next to her friend and pulling Emerald down as well.
“Nothing really,” Hermione mumbled “Just random things.”
“When isn’t Hermione’s mind ticking away?” Ron joked.
“At least someone thinks around here,” Hermione snapped.
“I was joking, don’t bite my head off,” Ron said.
“Sorry,” Hermione mumbled “I’m just…on edge.”
“What’s wrong?” Harry asked, he was next to Emerald.
“Nothing,” Hermione said.
“You’re lying<” Ron said coming to sit in between Harry and
Hermione “You don’t think we’re stupid enough to not know when something’s wrong do you?”
“Yeah come on Hermione we all know you better then that,” Ginny commented.
“Except maybe Em,” Harry joked.
“And even I can tell you’re lying,” Emerald added.
Hermione forced a smile “It’s just that, well if they could, the Dark Angels, trace Emerald so easily before, then why haven’t they found us again?”
Ron looked over at Emerald “Well?” he asked “What’s going on?”
“I’m not sure that anyone else was close enough,” Emerald said “Of course when they realize that some of their men have fallen, the rest will be looking for us.”
“So we’re screwed?” Ginny asked.
“No, they would have caught us by now if they knew,” Emerald said “Maybe they won’t find out.”
“It’s no big deal,” Ron said he was still looking at Emerald “Just don’t use your powers for a wee, or until you’re on the train.”
“Right,” Emerald said, she gazed into Ron’s eyes her eyes full of certainty.
Ginny caught the eye connection, and the way their eyes lingered, a little longer than normal. She wondered what hide behind the exchange, and why Emerald’s eyes seemed to glow suddenly. She glanced at her brother to see if his eyes to held the shine. Ginny could see a smile, but not the same glow that Emerald’ eyes held.
“Em, are you with us?” Ginny asked “Or are you lost somewhere else?”
Em shook her head and responded with “I’m here, I was just thinking,” then she looked back at Ginny and smiled.
“Really because it looked more like you were daydreaming about…” Ginny started.
Emerald cut her off “No, like I said I was just thinking.”
Hermione glanced at the two girls with a quizzical look, then looked at Harry. He just shrugged, then said “I don’t understand girl talk.”
“Hey!” Hermione and Ginny said.
“It’s true,” Ron said “It’s like you’ve got your won little langue. You don’t see anyone getting all confused when guys are talking.”
“Just because girls are more complex doesn’t mean we have our own langue,” Emerald said.
“Are you saying guys are stupid?” Harry asked.
“She’s saying girls are more emotional, or at least we use our emotions,” Hermione said “And girls tend to speak with their emotions more.”
Harry and Ron exchanged a glance then both broke into smiles “Exactly why no on understands you,” Ron laughed.
“If you keep thinking like that you’ll never have another girlfriend, you’ll have to go back to Lavender,” Ginny scolded.
“I’ll never go back to her,” Ron said “She’s highly annoying. I don’t even know why I dated her in the first place.”
“I could always help you with remembering,” Harry said “See you thought…”
“Okay Harry, shut up,” Ron said, he turned a tad read as well “I really don’t think anyone cares why I do stupid things.”
Hermione shrugged “I’d love to know what was happening inside your head.”
“Ditto, and I’m sure mum would like a little insight as well,” Ginny said. Harry leaned back on his elbows “If you really want to know I’m sure Emerald could just poke around a bit in his mind.”
Emerald looked down “That would be an invasion of privacy. Besides he’d know what was coming.”
“Like Ron would be smart enough to block your mind power,” Ginny said “We’re talking about the boy who dated Lavender.”
“Would you drop that already!” Ron said “I get it you all think I’m an idiot.”
“Only sometimes,” Hermione said with a yawn.
“Haha,” Ron said “It’s getting later,” he glanced at the clock it was nearly eleven o’clock.
“I am getting a bit sleepy,” Ginny said laying her head against Hermione’s shoulder, who in turn laid her head on top of Ginny’s head.
“Mmm…” Harry mumbled.
“What’s that mean?” Ron asked.
“I’m agreeing with you sister,” Harry said closing his eyes and laying back onto the floor.
“I can’t sleep,” Ron said “My nerves are on edge.”
“No wonder really,” Hermione yawned she was now dozing, her and Ginny were leaning against an armchair.
“What do you mean?” Ron asked staring directly at his friend.
“Nothing, I just thought maybe you were still shaken up from earlier today,” Hermione said.
“She makes a point,” Ginny yawned.
“I won’t be able to sleep either,” Emerald said “I’m to…frightened I guess. I keep thinking the Dark Angels will show up.”
“Now you’ve gotten me worried,” Hermione said sitting up and causing Ginny to slip so that her sleeping head was on Hermione’s kneecaps instead.
“It’s just a silly fear,” Emerald said “Nothing to really be worried about.”
“I’ll keep watch,” Ron said “Nothing will happened I promise.”
“Swear it?” Hermione asked, drifting back to sleepiness.
“I swear,” Ron said.
Hermione yawned again and then fell asleep. Emerald glanced over and couldn’t help but smile. Hermione was sleeping with her head laid in the chair that she leaned on. Ginny’s head was still rested on Hermione’s knees, and her own legs were curled close to her stomach. When Emerald looked over at Harry he was also sleeping, his head tilted so that one cheek rested against the rug. She then looked over at Ron who was looking over at Hermione and his sister.
“Girls are quite strange,” he mumbled “But I guess you can’t help it,” he said looking at Emerald.
“What do you find so strange?” Emerald asked.
“Everything, you don’t see guys lying on each other do you?” Ron asked.
“Guys are afraid of what others will think,” Emerald said “Girls aren’t as concerned, therefore it seems normal when girls hug and such.”
“I guess,” Ron said “Do you have answers for everything?”
“No,” Emerald answered.
“You remind me a lot of Hermione,” Ron said “When we first all met she seemed to know everything. It was a bit annoying really.”
“You find me annoying?” Emerald asked.
“NO!” Ron said, then noticed that Emerald was smiling “You didn’t actually think that I found you annoying did you?”
“I just wanted to see how you’d react is all,” Emerald said “And maybe I did think so but only a little.”
Ron smiled “You’ve got to be the strangest girl I have ever met.”
“That must mean you haven’t met many girls from out of town,” Emerald said.
“Well there was Fleur,” Ron said “Are all American girls like you?”
“What do you mean?” Emerald asked.
“So smart, and well you seem like you’d be willing to talk about anything,” Ro said “Most the girls I know just remain hush about everything.”
“I keep plenty of things ‘hush’ as you put it,” Emerald said “And plenty of people are smarter then me.”
“You’re also extremely modest,” Ron responded.
Emerald just smiled, and she was sure she blushed. She hadn’t been trying to seem modest, she had been being honest, she really wasn’t’ the smartest girl, and she didn’t even find herself to be smart. Ron smiled as well, he couldn’t explain why she had blushed suddenly but he found it interesting.
“You like her don’t you?” Emerald asked suddenly.
“Like who?” Ron asked startled.
“Hermione,” Emerald said “You have a crush on her. that’s why you dated lavender to get Hermione’s attention.”
“No,” Ron said simply “That isn’t why I dated Lavender.”
“But you don’t deny you like Hermione?” Emerald asked.
“You’re very nosey,” Ron commented with a smile “I don’t like Hermione we’re just good friends.”
“You’re lying,” Emerald said “That’s another thing guys aren’t good at doing.”
“I’m not lying,’ Ron said “Besides she’s got her eyes set on Viktor Krum.”
“So you dated Lavender to make Hermione jealous?” Emerald asked.
“No!” Ron said he hesitated then said “Well maybe but…” he stopped.
“But what?” Emerald asked searching his face for a hint of what he was thinking.
“I’ve realized she’d never like a guy like me,” Ron answered “And I’ve accepted that,” he looked down.
“You’re lying,” Emerald said “Breaking eye contacts the number one sign of a liar.”
“I’m not lying,” Ron said meeting Emerald’s eyes “I wouldn’t lie to someone I barely know.”
“Do you lie to the people you know well?” Emerald asked all seriousness.
“Only if I feel it’s best,” Ron said “I don’t want to but if it means helping them instead of hurting them then I’ll do it.”
“That’s nice of you,” Emerald said with a smile “Although not completely right to do.”
“What about you?” Ron asked “Do you lie?”
“Only once,” Emerald said “And I’ve regretted it ever since.”
“Right,” Ron said “So how exactly is it you came to live with your grandmother?”
“It’s a long story,” Emerald responded.
“I’ve go all night, I can’t sleep,” Ron said.
“My gram is my only living relative,” Emerald responded “My parents…died when I was twelve and my aunt Charlotte just…passed away a few days ago.”
“Oh,” Ron said.
“I guess it’s not really a long story,” Emerald said “But it’s not like they actually died of natural causes.”
“They were murdered?” Ron asked.
Emerald took a breath and said “Yes by the same people who attacked us,” she looked at his cut, then met his eyes again.
“You mean the ones who attacked you,” he corrected.
“They hurt you,” Emerald said “Therefore they attacked you as well.”
“Only because I was protecting you” Ron said “Why would they kill your parents?”
”My father, and aunt, both had my ability to orb, but because my mom uses her magic differently, I go what they call the Angel’s Blessings,” Emerald answered “I explained it a little earlier. Anyway my parents were protecting me and the Dark Angel’s tracked my father. My aunt was helping me control my abilities and that may be why they found me there.”
“But they never even attempted to get you?” Ron asked “That’s odd.”
“I don’t understand either,” Emerald said “Maybe they were just after my parents, of my dad at least, and my mom got in the way. I didn’t want to move here, I didn’t want to put my grandmother in danger.”
“She’s not one that people would mess with,” Ron said “She’d lay them out.”
“She’s probable so worried,” Emerald said looking down “I can’t believe I did this.”
“Followed us?” Ron asked “That was pretty stupid, but you also didn’t want Ginny to go alone.”
“I should have convinced her not to go,” Emerald said “Or tried to get her to go back, but she’s so stubborn.”
“Yeah,” Ron said “She gets that from mum. Dad’s a softy, he’d cave into just about anything.”
In the distance a clock chimed, the clock read eleven thirty. Emerald sighed and lay on the rug, she put her head on her arms and closed her eyes. Ron also leaned back but he didn’t close his eyes. He remained awake until two in the morning just staring off into space.

okay..after re-reading the sixth book, some of the stuff i wrote doesn't agree, like harry shouldn't have to go to hogwarts to find out what he's looking for, because he already has a rough idea. i started re-writing it a little, so yeah...
