Welcome to Warhawks Modding Reviews! I am making it my mission to review mods for Battle for Middle Earth 2 and Rome: Total War. Why no Medievel:TW2? Because it is actually inferior to R:TW when it comes to modding! Trust me there, I spend a good amount of time at TW forums too.....
So sit back, relax, and look at some reviews!

A bit out of the blue, but sounds interesting nonetheless.

I'm currently in the middle of a RTW mod (Rome Total Realism), but if you're reviews are good enough then I'll install another copy of RTW just to play tongue.gif

First up for my reviewing is one I downloaded today.

Bfme2 Visions mod is available from T3A currently, and is 17.5 mb. It is in .RAR format, so make sure you get an unpacker!

The mod is for the stock BFME2, they will not support ROTWK. The mod is only in Beta, so dont expect a finished mod here! It is a content adding mod, it adds 2 factions, splits one, and adds content to many of the other factions.

My first impressions is that all the screens themselves are stock, no new artwork or anything to the interface. Seeing this I decided to head into the singelplayer page. So on the factions list I see these: Gondor, Erebor, Rohan, Eldar, Dale, Harad, Isengard, Mordor, and Goblins.

Mordor, and Isengard are both the same as the stock factions.

Gondor is pretty much stock, just MOTW with Rohan removed, with Damrod and Gamling as additional Heroes. Curiously, it looks as though you can recruit them several times...... Plus they have very little powers.

Erebor is the same as the stock dwarves, for some reason Damrod makes an apperence there too..... I have no idea why.

Rohan is a fairly stock Rohan, except I could recruit the melee horsemen..... a huge problem. Elfhelm is a hero.... but he is invisible. Plus, wasnt he dead by the time of WOTR? Curiously, you cannot recruit melee infantry, but you can recruit both yeomaen and Galahadrim.

The Eldar are also pretty much stock, with Elronds sons as heroes, and with the addition of Marchwardens, which are essentialy the Galahadrim without the neat-o armour.

Dale looks like it could end up being a very interesting faction. The Readme says it is only 30% done, but it shows promise! So far there are two heroes, Brand and Brand........I suspect one of them is supposed to be Bard II..... There an archer unit, a sword unit, and a pike unit. The pikes have very cool English style Axe/Pikes, and the skins are not bad. I also noticed that the units get shields when upgraded. Of particular note is the BEAUTIFUL skins for the Cavalry unit. They are gorgeous! I somewhat doubt that the men of Dale would actually have suce beautiful horses, and armour. I cant wait to see the finished faction!

The real jewel of the mod is Harad. It is fantastic! You start out with a cool looking fortress, it looks kind of like the Palace from Aladdin.... amost all the upgrades have a visual effect on the fortress, and it looks really cool! Heroes turn out to be 2 Nazgul, a King sort of guy, and sneaky archer hero. The resource buildings are a cool crimson coverd structure, and it seems that most of the buildings are either new or reskinned. There are a lot of units, there are three types of cavalry: A basic cavalry unit, an Elite cavalry unit, and a Chariot unit. The Chariot has another BEAUTIFUL skin, but for some reason there is a Rhun guy driving it..... There is every type of unit you could think of, heavy, stealth, assasin, lite troops, it is all there! Of note is the interesting troll man, it must be sort of like a Half Troll, except it looks more man like than EA's. There are also 2 ranged units, skirmishers with throwing lances, and archers.

The mod is good in material, but there are a lot of problems still to work out. Most of the problems are with artwork, skins, and the notes for units. There is a lot of that stuff that is missing, and there are a few model problems. All in all though, I say give this mod a look see, and pay attention in the future for news. This could end up being a very nice mo.

WARHAWKS RATING: 3 out of 5 The mod still needs improvements in the detail zone, but it is still beta. I expect it to go up at least a point when these are fixed.

Elfhelm wasn't dead, he was the captain who led Eowyn's battalion to Helms Deep.

Nice review btw, it pretty much sums up my own thoughts on the mod.

Next up is a mod for Rome: Total War.
Forth Eorlingas is a mod for R:TW Barbarian Invasion. The mod sends you to J.R.R. Tolkiens world, in the early Fourth Age. FE has added on to the origional release, Corsair Invasion.

FE includeds several factions to work with: Rhun, Harad, Dunland, Rohan, and the Reunited Kingdom. All the factions are unique in design, with the RK having the most elite units, Rohan having the supreme cavalry force, Dunland having cheap barbarian units, Rhun having a well rounded selections including Wains, and Harad having another good all around force with great arid climate units andheavy cavalry.

Added to CI is an expanded map that now encompasses about half of Tolkiens maps of NW Middle Earth. The map holds all of Rohan and Dunland, much of Rhun and Harad, and about all of the Gondor half of the RK.

The unit recruitment is very interesting, there are a TON of units that can only be recruited in certain settlements. If you go to the custom battle section first and are disapointed in the amount of units WAIT! In the campaign the number of units will TRIPLE! You will also find many interesting mercenaries available too, such as Rangers in Ithilian. The mod team has added a couple non human units too. RK gets a unit of Sindar elves in the beginning of the campaign, they are nasty archers and an all around great unit. Dunland can recruit several orc units and a Uruk unit. Very cool!

There are only two missions available, one is the crossings of Poros, which is about a battle between RK and Harad, and the other is of the battle between Faramir and his Rangers against the evil men in the forests of Gondor.

I recommend downloading the music pack, which creates a very Tolkien like enviroment. There are really no noticable problems with the mod, and more factions are coming!

FE can be found by going to the Fourth Age Forum at www.totalwarcenter.net

Warhawks Rating: 5 out of 5 This is a model mod for any game. The fact that is Tolkien related is awesome, and the mod has no noticable problems.

Yep, pretty much agree with everything you wrote there, except perhaps the good cavalry for Harad. I find their generals to be tough to deal with, but apart from that their cavalry never really posess much of a threat.

I think it should also be noted that factions are able to recruit native units once they capture regions. For instance, on my Reunited Kingdom campaign I hold about half of Northern Gondor (or as it is more commonly known, Rohan). These cities have been in my posession for a decent amount of time, and as such have been built up to the level where I can recruit basic Rohirric units, such as Levy Spearmen and Light Cavalry (which for my purposes, are meat shields to stop my Citadel Guards/Rangers taking casualties).

Thanks for that Zimoo, FE has so much that it is hard to remember it all! I do remember recruiting RK militia units as Harad. Pity you kill all those fine horses! lol

By request, here is one for Elvenstar Mod 2.

Elvenstar Mod 2 is the sequel to the populer Elvenstar mod 1. It can be found at elvenstar.de.

EM2 is a primarily code mod, there are almost no models added.
The mod starts with an interesting starter screen that lets you choose from some simple options. The most interesting part of the mod is the Hero system. Instead of being able to revive fallen heroes, they stay dead and a statue is erected where they fell.

The Elven faction gets a brand new spellbook, which has some nice artwork. Every faction gets a special powerup building that allows you to purchase expensive power ups for your units.

The only new units are some heroes, all fairly standard. Plus they are all create a hero models..... yawn.....

Warhawks rating: 2 out of 5 This mod is BORING! It is nicely done though.... and I like the elven spellbook. Too bad they didnt do anything else to it.....

A bit harsh on their coders maybe, who I think did a great job with it.
