H I A T U S

Vesperarium is currently on hiatus until the Spring. As you all know, the site has been slowing down for the past couple of months, and the Staff has been trying to find ways to spruce up member activity. While some of it has been successful, the Staff has decided to take a little break to regroup and come up with more ideas to make the site more enjoyable for you.

Don't worry though! Vesperarium won't be entirely shut down during the hiatus. We'll be keeping some sections such as the Galleries and Learning forums open for you to use while you wait.

So it's a small good-bye for now, but we hope you'll all join us again in the Spring for our grand re-opening. See you soon!
xoxo Vesperarium Staff

ONLY 7 EASY STEPS!

I posted this in the Critique section at RCR and someone suggested that I make a tutorial for the colouring, so here goes! I started with a blended image, and if you want to make a proper banner then you should do the same ... JUST TO CLARIFY – I did blend the image myself! What I meant was that THIS PARTICULAR TUT starts with the image that I have already blended. So I guess what I should have said was ...

HERE'S ONE I MADE EARLIER!

BEFORE:
user posted image

STEP ONE: FInd your base image. Dark, monochromatic images work well.
STEP TWO: Duplicate base, set to Screen 100%.
STEP THREE: New layer. Fill with dark blue. Set to Exclusion 100%.
STEP FOUR: New layer. Fill with light blue. Set to Colour Burn 100%.
STEP FIVE: Duplicate the base, drag it to the top. Luminosity 50%.
STEP SIX: Duplicate the base, drag it to the top. Soft Light 50%.
STEP SEVEN: Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Selective Colour ... are you ready?

REDS
Yellow -100%

YELLOWS
Cyan +100%
Magenta -100%
Yellow -100%

CYANS
Cyan -50%
Magenta -50%
Yellow +50%

BLUES
Cyan +50%
Magenta +25%
Yellow +25%
Black -50%

WHITES
Black -100%

BLACKS
Cyan +100%

Set that Selective Colour layer to 50%.

Ta-dah! All done. I wasn't very explanatory, so feel free to ask me to clarify certain things.

Obviously I added certain other things to my banner along the way, but I didn't want everyone with a cloned version of mine, so I just posted the colouring. smile.gif I used the following at various points throughout my banner:

1. Vintage flower texture from Resurgere @ DA, Overlay 50%
2. Dotted light texture from catlover @ RCR, Colour Dodge 100%
3. Flattened image copies (Flatten Image > Select All > Copy > then Undo like hell until you have your layers back) with the middle cut out (Elliptical Marquee, feathered 10px), add a 10px Radial Blur, Normal 70% and again at Soft Light 70%
4. Bluish-grey planet stock image from Resurgere @ DA, Screen 40%; text, Soft Light black > transparent gradient shadows, borders, etc.

If you did the tut, I'd really like you to post so that I can see what you came up with! Thanks.

I love your end result! It is absolutely beautiful! wub.gif

Here is what I came up with:

I used your coloring and a similar radial blur effect, but added several light textures and star brushes. I also duplicated the base several more times than in the tutorial and set it to different settings to change it up a bit. Great tutorial!

Thanks Cornie & Enough4!

Maerad – I really like your banner! The pictures and the text are absolutely gorgeous. XD

Red – Just click on your layer, and drag it to the top of the Layer Palette e.g. in the screenshot of the Photoshop Layer Palette below, Layer 3 is at the top.

I did have to tweak a little bit. For some reason my lights wouldn't warm as much as yours did...

My picture was very dark (Like really, really dark) so I had to duplicate, Soft Light it then play with the opacity for quite a while. I think I need to find pictures with more white in them, but I still like how the colors turned out. biggrin.gif

By the way, the tip to make them 200 px was wonderful. I can handle these ones better.

Okay, so this wasn't made directly with those settings, but it's inspired by it. Thanks for getting me started with selective coloring!
