Description: beginner

This is for those people who are unfortunate enough not to have selective coloring *cough me cough*.

*claps* my first tutorial! i hope you like it!

Today we will be making this set of icons:

i'll be using the second one with David Boreanaz as my example because he is very sexy. ;) But all of the icons were made basically the same way with a few different textures.

001.
Choose your image and resize it. This is the step where all your normal image editing goes. (Such as brightening, sharpening, and any other editing you may do.) For my image i choose this picture of David Boreanaz from Bones Fans Online Gallery. Don't worry if your image doesn't fit the icon canvas, remember that some of the top and bottom of the image may be cut off if you choose to use the texture.

002.
Next, make sure your picture is selected, and go to Enchance>> Color>> Adjust Hue/Saturation. (this may vary from program to program)

Adjust your master saturation to +26
Desaturate everything except for your Reds, Cyans, and Blues.

For my settings i had the saturation of the reds, cyans, and blues up to +45 but yours will depend on the icon.

    RECAP: here are my settings:
    Master- saturation +26
    Reds- saturation +45
    Yellows- saturation -100
    Greens- saturation -100
    Cyans- saturation +45
    Blues- saturation +45
    Magentas- saturation -100

*note, the settings will vary depending on the image you choose, feel free to play around with the numbers, just make sure to keep them fairly close. (if you have red at 56 you don't want your Blue's and Cyan's at 21)

003.
Your icon looks a bit funny now right? Don't worry, we're going to fix that.

Add a flood fill layer and fill it with a light green. I used #7cec9e, but your color will depend on your image.

Set this layer on soft light 56%

Next, add another flood fill layer and fill it with a light blue. I used #61c4d6.

Set this layer on soft light 100%

004.
Now, put this texture user posted image above all your layers and set it on soft light 48%

005.
    Now here's the fun part.

Duplicate your base and bring it to the top. Set this layer on Overlay.

Looks cool doesn't it? This is the step that makes your icon all glowy and pretty.

Now lastly, i used this texture user posted image by dusty_memories and set it on multiply on top of all my layers.

    and TA DA! you're finished!!
*Feel free to adjust any setting to suit your icon, remember don't follow this tutorial exactly, it all depends on your picture. I'm not sure this will work for every icon but i'd love to see your results!

i hope you enjoyed it!

Coool! Coloring without selective color!

I had to try this quickly because I love the coloring you had done on these icons.. but the problem is that I cropped it funny :P I'll try it again later if I have time!

yay!!

@ BD- i love the crop on it! Don't change it! It looks absolutly perfect! I love the glowy blood effet also!

@ Twinker= YAY!!! they look great! The only thing i would suggest is on the one in the second row all the way on the left, to erase the part of the texture on his face?

and if you wanted to use another texture on multiply, you can click the link that says "dusty_memories" for the rest of the set i used. ;)

great job guys!! I'm really glad they turned out so well! *hugs*
