So I picked up the book, it's pretty sweet. Think the elves have a good mix of speed, strength and durability but I just don't "get" the house Shyeel stuff.

Were I to get some Retribution I'd want these guys, they look the business but I just can't find see a decent use for them. They're quite nimble against shooting, no blast damage is great but they seem to be lacking in the offensive capability. Push back could be handy, but it's hardly enough to plan a strategy around and their magic attack is ok, but even with the warcaster's (can't remember his name) feat it fails to impress.

Anyone got any thoughts on how a Shyeel army would work?

They're going to have trouble with anything with decent armour though unless they get a charge. Once they get stuck in they're going to be minced. I actually think the best units are the houseguard. The halberdiers are amazing and cheap and the riflemen are pretty damn good too. Every list I've built has a ton of solo's in it, because Retribution solo's are the shiznet!

The caster i really like is Rayvn so my favourite unit so far is invictors.
Great all rounder unit that work very much like Rayvn on the table as far as I can tell without having played them. snipe and the mini feat give them the range to strike first and hard which a unit so expensive needs. The ability to re roll missed cmbined ranged attacks is great and makes 2 man CRAs very accurate even against high defense.

But i'm with you Mark. The battle mages are a nice unit but lack any real hitting power and mat 6 magic attack 6 ain't really anything special.
