-------
Drill Courts
-------

1) Grinders (requires a feeder)

a ) 10 Forehands, rotate to back. Repeat three times.
b ) 10 Backhands, rotate to back. Repeat three times.
c ) 10 Side to side, rotate to back. Repeat three times.

Two people go at a time. For a ) and b ) hitters take their shot then
shuffle back to the middle before taking their next. For c ) whoever is
hitting forehand takes the front and whoever is hitting backhand runs
behind.

2) Head to Head

a ) Forehand
b ) Backhand

Two start out facing each other on the left pole at net and proceed to
their right while hitting forehand volleys to each other. When they
get to the right pole they head for the left pole, hitting backhand
volleys to each other. This drill may be proceeded/followed by typical
head to head, with six on the court (two in the left alley, two in the
middle, two in the right alley) hitting volleys.

-------
Game Courts
-------

1) Winners

Doubles play starting from the baseline where only winners count as
points. Hitting the fence without a bounce gives the other team a
point. Whoever wins five points first wins the game. Play three games.

2) 51

Doubles play starting from the baseline. The points scheme is as follows:
1 pt = regular rally
5 pt = baseline / bounced winner
10 pt = volley winner
15 pt = overhead winner
-20 pts = hitting a fence
Play to 51 points, sudden death. Play two games.

3) Olympics

Doubles play, with a 'winners' side and a 'challengers' side. In order
to get to the winners side, challengers must win two consecutive
points or hit a winner. Only on the winners side may points be earned.
Those on the winners side must start at net. Play to five points.

4) Add-on

Start off with one-on-one play. Whoever wins the first point gets to "add-on" a team member on the ad side; the original player moves to deuce. This is now two against one play, with the winning side only getting the singles court and the losing side having the doubles court. If whoever won the first point wins the second as well, they get to "add-on" a third member of their team, and so forth. Once a point is lost, however, everyone must leave the court and one new person is substituted in. The goal is to get all team members onto the court.

5) Rotational Doubles

Doubles play, rotating counter-clockwise. First game starts with the
player in back on the deuce side, and the second game from the ad. One
point for a rally win and two points for a winner. Play to 21. Play
two games.

6) Rotational Singles

Singles play, rotating if the point is lost or three consecutive
points are won. Play to 21. Play two games.

7) Ping-Pong

Singles play - hit one ball and rotate out. Goal is to set up an easy shot for your team mate after you to win the point. Points are won when one side misses.

Groundstrokes:
1. Side to Side.
Player 1. hits only down the line, Player 2 only hits cross court. Player 1 feeds to Player 2, and they both chase the ball until someone hits it out.

2. Baseline Grind, Player 1 and Player 2 rally with the purpose of hitting the ball past the service line before it bounces (try for 10,20,50,100, etc... consecutively). Obviously you still have to keep it in the singles court too. Goal of this is to solidify your groundstrokes by keeping them deep.

3. Forehand/Backhand rally. Stand crosscourt from each other (So if Player 1 is on the deuce side, Player 2 also stands on the deuce side) and hit exclusively forehands crosscourt to the other players forehand. Then switch to the ad side and hit backhands consecutively.

Volleys:
1. Have both players stand on the service line. Player 1 feeds the ball and Player 1 and 2 volley back and forth with the goal of keeping the ball up in the air without bouncing. The goal is not to hit the ball away for a winner but to hit it up for as long as possible.

2. Both players stand on their respective baselines. Player 1 feeds the ball to Player 2 and charges the net. Player 2 has to hit the ball back to Player 1. Player 1 hits his volleys back to Player 2.

Drills:

**6-ball**

2 baseline shots (forehand, backhand)
1 approach
2 volleys (forehand, backhand)
1 overhead

(drill is best done with lots of balls, fewer people)

**3-Ball**

Two people defending on the baseline side, two lines on the opposite baseline. Each pair/team begins at baseline, fed one ball short for an approach shot and play the point out. If the point is won by the challenging side second ball is fed to players now at net for the volley. If second point is won at the net, the challenging players are given an overhead shot which they will need to win to advance to the defending side. Two balls out of three automatically gets the challenging team to the defender's side.

** warm up king of the court **

Two people at the net, two lines on the opposite baseline. Two balls are fed to each player on the baseline, and point is played out. Aim of the drill is to maintain consistency and keep the ball in play for as long as possible.

Games:

**Lobster**

Defending team starts at baseline on one side of the court, everyone else forms a line behind the net post. Feeder feeds a lob to the first team to come in that needs to touch the net and run after the lob to play out the point. Players rotate individually if they miss a ball. Two straight points scored on the challengers side gets them over to the defending side.

**Kamikaze**

One pair on the defending baseline side, challengers form two lines at the opposite baseline side as the challengers. Feeder feeds ball to the defending side as challengers charge the net. Winning two consecutive points at the net will get them over to the defending side, while feeder counts down from three before feeding the ball again as they switch sides and the next challenging pair comes in.

** Blood tennis **

Two pairs on opposing sides of net, standing at the baseline. Everyone else forms a line at the net post to rotate in. Feeder feeds a ball to one side and point is played out, any ball bounced past the service line is out and the next person rotates in. As point is played after the feed players will move in/approach the net.

A personal favorite:
(it's good when you have 10+ ppl per court)

BUTTS UP

Two teams evenly divided on opposite sides of the court
:: One person in at a time (Singles play)
:: If you lose the point, you have to sit down -
:::: MUST SIT INSIDE SERVICE BOX OR ALLEY
:::: To get back up, must hit a WINNER while SITTING
:::::: SITTING = knees must be on the court
:::::: (it's recommended sitters DUCK when their own side is hitting)
:::::: (we don't want anyone hit on the back of the head)
:::: If the person on the baseline hits a winner, he/she chooses who gets up
:::: Hitting someone on the other side = a WINNER
:: The team left with NO ONE standing loses
:: Play at least 2 games
:: The winning team then lines up on the BASELINE
:::: The losing team lines up butts out, FACING THE FENCE
:::: There's NO LOOKING!!!
:: The winning team gets to hit TWO balls EACH player
:::: Up to FOUR people can hit from the baseline SIMULTANEOUSLY
:::: The shot must be hit UNDERHAND. NO SERVING.

(Feel free to replay, as it does get fun and very competitive)

AROUND THE WORLD

:: Singles play
:::: One person in on each side
:: Hit one ball then run to other side
:::: If you miss, that's minus one life
:::: Feeder determines # of lives
:: Last two people standing do not run to other side
:::: Feeder decides special "tricks" for them to do
:::::: Popular tricks include:
:::::::: Drop the racket and spin once
:::::::: Spin multiple times
:::::::: Hit with your non-dominant hand (ie, left for right-handers)
:::::::: Hit the ball with the grip of your racket (while holding the head)
:::::::: Catching the ball and throwing it over

HOT SEAT

:: Australian play (3 ppl in at a time)
:::: Two at baseline, one at center service line
:::: Rotate if you miss or win THREE points in a row
:: One point for each ball won, TWO points for volley WINNERS
:::: Rotate either counter-clockwise or clockwise
:::::: IE, deuce side --> net --> ad side
:: Play to 20 or 30 points
:: Feed ball to baseline players

Beginner/Intermediate Level Games

JAIL BREAK

:: Caution: This can get dangerous with advanced players
:: It's better for beginner/moderate skill levels
:: Requires a feeder

:: One ball is fed to one person in on the baseline
:: They must hit a ball PAST THE SERVICE line and IN
:::: For advanced players, they must LOB it into either the deuce/ad side
:::::: Or, they must hit into a certain boxed region
:::: If players MISS, then they are sent to JAIL
:::: Jail is the opposite side
:::: To get out of jail, players must CATCH the ball BEFORE it bounces
:::: Players may NOT use their rackets
:::: If someone catches a ball, the person who hit it is now in JAIL
:: The winner is the last person standing

FRUIT BASKET

:: Volley drill (can also be played as baseline drill)
:: Requires a feeder
:: There's a good amount of running
:: Needs 'targets'

:: Form two teams, one at right netpost, second at left netpost
:: Two people are in at the net; one on the right, one on the left
:::: Feeder feeds five volleys to each
:::::: IE, feed to right, then to left; repeat 4 more times
:: Set up two target 'areas,' one in right corner and one in left
:: Players aim to hit the targets/in the target area
:::: If they do, FEEDER yells "Fruit Basket"
:: Players must drop their rackets
:::: Run and TOUCH the back fence
:::::: Run back and TOUCH the net
:: The slower player is then 'out'
:: Goal is to eliminate all players on opposing team
