While I'm not announcing the creation of an RPG at this time, I would like to evaluate the potential RPG material that I have already made on this site:

http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Dracon_(4e_Race)

http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Dracon_Civilization_(DnD_Other)

The setting would not be Dungeons and Dragons if played here, and any character from any race which can fit into a fantasy setting (essentially, anything without modern technology) could be in it.

What do you think?

It could be interesting.

Some things would have to be decided, if magic is allowed, what power level, so folks don't have god level characters running around, magic items, what races may not be allowed since they are to powerful as individuals, ect.

If it were to be made, there WOULD be magic, but not on a god-like level; i.e. no bringing back the dead, no "deus ex machina" spells, no "drop a meteor on planet" option, etc.

Any race could be allowed, as long as it wasn't hopelessly more powerful than the other players.

EDIT: Yes, there would be magic items too.

There has to be limits since some folks do tend to go way over other folks in power level. Some of them do this without realizing it, others may partially realize it but want to have the strongest, most powerful, ect character.

So it is best to start this to allow a lot of time to discuss things, set limits rules ect.

Well, if one looks at the two links, one will see some information posted about the setting. While there is a lot of flexibility, but a few things should be set, IF the RPG gets made, which I haven't started up yet.

1. The setting, being based of off a race on a wiki, will take place in the land where the race lives. Specifically, in a desert with a collection of towns, city-states, oases, etc. The race is called the Dracons (see links for more.)

A few quick details: The Dracons are a mix of humans and dragons (made by magic), are bipedal, have fangs, claws, scales, horns, a tail, no wings, can breathe acid, and stand a bit above human height, with males taller than females.

2. While the non-Dracon characters can have whatever social/religious/philosophical ideas they want and can come from any fantasy-compatible background, the Dracons would come from the setting that is pre-made, although the characters do not have to conform with their society.

3. There would also be a prohibition on any "instant death" spells.

Would you use levels and classes?

I'm not sure if levels could be used very well, if anyone knows how to implement them, then it might work. As for classes... that seems like a good idea, although that is really something which would shape the background and actions of the character more than anything else. I have posted two characters in the random role play section; each of them has his/her own class.

EDIT: As for races, as I have said, anyone can be any race they want as long as it isn't hopelessly powerful. Anyone can make almost any race come from any background, with any set of social norms from said background, unless they want to play a Dracon, because this setting has the Dracons come from a certain society which already has a set of norms.

Although I have posted information on a wiki which can be accessed from the links above, it won't hurt for me to post some information about the setting down here.

The Environment: The RP would be set in a desert, with farming areas around oases, rivers, and some other patches of fertile land near coasts and some irrigated fields. There are a number of large cities, populated by the Dracons, a race which will be described below. Sandstorms are frequent, although the desert is more rock than sand.

The Dracons: This race is the general population of the setting, although visitors from other races are common, at least in the major cities. The Dracons are partially human, partially Dragon, although their dragon side is by far the stronger of the two. Males are significantly larger, tougher, and stronger than females, although females are more dexterous, agile, and better balanced. Dracon males stand between 6'2-6'8, females are about 5'4-5'10. Males weight between 185-220 lbs, females weigh between 110-150.

The society of the Dracons is very unjust, with the poor being treated like dirt, and females being treated in a rather sexist way. Most inhabitants of Dracon cities live in slums and in poor conditions (about 60% of Dracon city dwellers), but some middle-class and rich Dracons exist.

I have more information on the race, if anyone wants it.

The Magic System: Essentially Dungeons and Dragons, magic spells in the RPG are only limited by being too powerful or being able to bring back the dead. Almost anything else is fair game, as long as a "fix everything" spell isn't used. Characters who use magic should list exactly what spells they have before the RPG would begin, so they can't just invent an ability exactly when they need it.

EDIT: Here is kind of an idea as to what the Dracons look like. I know that this is a Dragonborn from Dungeons and Dragons, so you should mentally add a tail and make the scales smoother: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/RacesNCl...lery/111128.jpg

Hello:
The idea is quite interesting, but I am curious, since I don't know much about D&D, you mentioned that other races can be used, do you have a link or info so maybe me and other possible players may see what other options are available?
Thanks and keep it up with this idea.

Here is a link:

http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page

While any race that you want to use can be used, this is only partially based of off D&D; I do NOT want to run a strict D&D game on this site. If I wanted a D&D RPG, I would look for another site.

Generally, we have the following races in a standard D&D 4e game:

Humans: No surprises here.

Elves: More agile and lighter than humans, good with bows.

Eladrin: Elf-like race with magical abilities and at-will teleportation.

Dwarves: Short, tough people with skill in axes, hammers, and mining.

Halflings: Short little people known for sneaking.

Dragonborn: New to 4e, these are lesser cousins of Dragons with scales and breath power.

And there is no need to be limited by that list; my race is homebrewed, which means that it isn't even official.

What might help is a background description of each character we list, that way, we know a bit about each character, without the need to spend RP time fleshing him/her out.

I guess being in a desert wearing armor, especially certain types of armor would be a bad idea. I forgot the Ad&d setting, maybe it was the one based on arabian knights, but they had rules down for a gm if the person insisted on wearing armor what levels of heat damage & such they'd take.

Well, there are Dracons who wear armor, but they are well-adapted for the heat. The civilians wear less; the females cover themselves with a top and a loincloth, but not much else. This is done to reduce the amount of heat retained.

Keep in mind that it is as hot as the Sahara in their lands.

EDIT: Do you think that it might be a good idea for me to test how I RP with a couple of practice posts here?

Ok. I'm going to try and set this RPG up. It will take some time, but it should go well.

If anyone is interested in joining, just tell me.

You can bring any fantasy-compatible character(s) to the RPG that you want. I acknowledge that it will likely take some time to have enough people. I will attempt to play two characters.

I'll try to type up info on my char. I may put it up on another forum since it may be a bit to long for here.

As for level the only way I can think of is if you tell certain folks, either on this thread or via pm that this or that skill has gone up, this weapon skill has gone up. They've learned this skill, this spell, ect.

It is probably best that we not include leveling in this RPG. I can discuss this further, but since not all of us are familiar with the concepts of leveling up, it is best to leave it out for now.

True, but you can still tell folks by pm, this or that skill, weapon, as gone up, they've learned this or that, if you want.

Depending on what sorts of characters folks do here I may do a 2nd character. Though I guess, like in most groups, certain characters like a paladin would not fit in.

I think it is best if we try to do one adventure, then see if we can level up after it, so that we are all on the same page.

And yes, you've convinced me to change my mind on the leveling up part.
