I chose Rick because all the keyboard and synthesizer parts/solos are one thing that made Pink Floyd unique.  I really like David too, but it was clear that when he was the leader of the band, they weren't as good.  Of course Roger is very important, but if he didnt become so controlling, then the band might not have been so bitter for 20 years.  Nick is pretty cool and funny, but no offense to him, but its not like he was the best drummer of all time, and he didn't write songs or sing them, so he wasnt as important.  Syd was good, but he barely did any material with the band so its hard to choose him.

Hmm, this is a very interesting topic. I'm gonna pass on voting on this because I think all of them (with the exception of Bob Klose) were all important in Pink Floyd's sound. Roger was needed for the lyrics and the bass. David was needed for his wonderful guitar playing and singing voice. Rick was needed for his fantastic keyboard and synth skills and sometimes soothing voice. Nick was needed for precise drumming. Syd, well, he was an influence on all 4 of them, showing mainly on Wish You Were Here. I think if Syd had stayed in the band and not become addicted to LSD, then Pink Floyd would not have become as popular as they are now. They would just have been another British psychedelic band. But I do enjoy Piper a lot and Syd does have a talent for songwriting, especially on songs like Astronomy Domine and Interstellar Overdrive.

Just my thoughts

thats a really good point, I still think if they could all have worked together as well as they did on Dark Side, they could still be together today. Something obviously happened to Roger, which is really a shame. After watching Live at Pompeii, there seemed to be absolutely no problems with them and they were getting along great, its really too bad it didnt stay like that

Roger started to get a little control-hungry around the time of Animals. He began to hate touring which is when he, on the last date of the Animals tour in Montreal, Canada, he spat on a noisy fan in the front row. He then got the idea from that incident to begin the concept of building a Wall between him/the band members and the audience.

Yeah, I've been reading about this stuff in Inside Out, including the spitting incident. Right now I'm at the point where Roger is hating Rick and things arent going well at all.

Inside Out is a fantastic book. Lots of humor from Nick. I have yet to finish the book. If I remember right, I'm at the part where WYWH is about to be released, around the time of Syd's surprise visit.

i voted roger. he's clearly the brain of the group. we wouldn't have animals, darkside, the wall without him. now if gilmour was gone, we still probably would have those albums.

Roger as he is the sexiest member. And also, without him pink floyd would not have been successful. He WAS pink floyd! In my opinion...

You don't have to. I didn't vote either as IMO all 4 of them are essential. Along with Syd for the short time that he was in the band.

Rick. Maybe I'm biased because I play the same instrument as him, and because he (indirectly) taught me a lot of what makes up my current style of keyboard playing, but I still say Rick.
