The shit. People who lived on the beach were the shit. Or at least, that's what they were trying to say. Buying a house on the beach was like sticking a sign on your back that said, 'Hey, hello, I'm the shit.' And everyone would believe it too. Because the people that saw that sign were people who didn't live on the beach. The non beach people were the ones that saw the sign. All the beach people wouldn't think a thing about it.

Paige wasn't the shit. Paige was the type of person who lived in a small apartment not suitable enough for a rat to live in. Or out of the trunk of her car. She did the latter. But there Paige was, standing in the giangatic living room of a house with huge windows that over looked the beach. Paige had called the realtor eariler that day and looked at the place. And when he wasnt looking she made an imprint of the key so she could come back at night. No, Paige wasn't thinking of becoming the shit. She was thinking of dusting the spirit that had killed the last family that had been the shit.

Wasn't that how it always worked? The shit people always have the non beach people working in their shit houses, to make sure that the house kept up it's shit appearence and good shit name? In which case, it would be the non beach people that were responsible for making the house be the shit that it was.

"Here ghostie ghostie." Paige whispered to herself looking around. Gun loaded with rocksalt, check. Lucky dagger, check. Tunes, check. Candles, check. Ghost, no check. Where was the damn thing? It was like ghosts only came out when it was inconvenient for you. Last night, when Paige had been trying to celebrate her 21st birthday, the ghost crashed a window and two street kids got the blame.

So here Paige sat, hung over and tired and wanting the tough bed of a motel or the smooth seats of her car. But instead she got the 100% authentic hard Cherry wood floors. She sighed and opened her laptop. Just as she was going on youtube, there was a noise down the hallway. She looked up and turned on her EMF meter. "Come out come out where ever you are..."

But it wasn't going off. The EMF meter sat unmoving next to her. She made a face, getting to her feet. If it wasn't a ghost...it was either a big demon or a human. And considering EMF probably would have picked up the demon, she would have to go with human. Paige cursed quietly blowing out the candles.

Liz rubbed her fingers across the smooth metal of the barrel of her shot gun as she snatched it from the ground beneath a window. Some days she felt she was really above all this - but someone had to do it. Saving people, hunting things, it was her job now. And she could always get a real job to have actual money on the side, occasionally, anyway.

Being so close to Stanford again was a bit unsettling, but the twenty-eight year old archaeologist had other things on her mind at the moment; namely not getting stuck in a window or making a ton of noise. Dropping to the floor inside the building, she let out a soft sigh. Liz was different from some hunters - she didn't need an EMF meter, even if it was sometimes helpful. She could sense anything with supernatural energies, be it demonic, ghosty, or even psychic. The problem was always with telling the difference.

When she heard the voice telling her to come out - or the ghost - she froze. Someone else was already here. Perhaps another hunter. Liz blinked back the momentary stab of a building migraine - aka her 'ESP' - and realized that either a ghosty or a psychic was here, probably the latter but hopefully the former. That was, after all, what she was looking for.

Setting her shot gun beside her bag on the floor, Liz stepped away from it, knowing she could use her other ... talent - telekinesis - if she had to. "Hi," she dragged out with her Southern accent slightly, "sorry if I was interruptin'." Liz held up her hands as if in mock-surrender and shrugged. She couldn't really see the person because the lights were low, off, and practically non-existant from the street, at least.

In the light left, which was the bare flicker of one candle flame, the woman looked like a ghost. But the signs weren't there. She stood. "It's ok. I'm Paige." Paige said, holding out her hand. "Who might you be?" she asked curiously. She ran a hand through her hair.

Was is possible that it was another hunter? Were there other people out there like her? She glanced around nervously. Or it was a demon. It wouldn't be the first time Paige ran into a demon. It would be about the fifth, and that was in a 3 month period.

"Do you often lurk around in house at night?" Paige asked with an amused smirk lighting the candles again. It made things less spooky and gave her better light. If it was a demon she would be able to tell. She sat back down and grabbed her water bottle talking a drink. Paige wasn't one to talk, obviously. She was the one sitting in the middle of the living room of a million dollar house with weapons and a laptop.

Liz thought that the voice had perhaps sounded faintly familiar, and sheremembered that in the back of her mind for now. She knew a lot of people - well, maybe not knew exactly as came across. Yeah. Over the past several years since she had been out of school and basically hunting full - sometimes part - time, Elizabeth had come across a TON of people.

Taking the extended hand and shaking firmly, politely, Liz could tell that the other woman was solid and definately not a ghost or anything. "I'm ...," she trailed off for a moment, the name clicking. Pulling back her hand slightly, she smiled, "Liz. Well, you might remember me as Doctor Tucker. Egypt, right?"

This was just bizzare. Talk about convient. Or circumstantial. Interesting. Yeah, interesting worked. Okay, the way the world was working against her at the moment, Paige was probably a hunter - or possessed. "Surprisingly, yeah," she shrugged off-handedly as the other woman started lighting candles and then took a drink of something or other, "but actually I was just investigating this one in particular."

"Oh my gosh!" Paige said giving Liz the once over. "I can't believe it! How are you?" Paige asked, amazed. She hadn't seen anyone from her high school in years. It had been two since she had left, and since then she had left her entire life behind. She hadn't talked to her step mom or her friends. So seeing someone so trivial from her past was insane.

Out of all the people to see from her high school years she was suprised it was Doctor Tucker. She was even more surprised to find that she had remembered Paige; then again, it wasn't as if all the senior classes when to Egypt for their trip.

"What have you been doing with yourself lately?" Paige asked running her hands through her hair. It was dirty but she had promised herself she would find the ghost tonight. She hadn't realized what a damper seeing Liz had been on her plans until just then. She needed to get her out of the house.

((I love how neither realizes the other is a hunter. *giggle-snort* What are they after? It'd be hilarious if it went after one of them. *is random*))

Liz also gave Paige a once over. Under normal circumstances, she might be asking a few questions, but it was starting to become pretty clear that she either lived here and was caming out in her living room - or, and this was a big or, she was a hunter. Liz was more likely to believe the former rather than the latter, even if she knew for sure that it wasn't true. She could be house sitting - but that didn't really make sense with everything that she had out.

"I've been pretty good," Liz shrugged casually, "Stopped teaching and travelling out of country - but I've been pretty good. How are you?" She smiled brightly, excited about seeing someone here that she actually knew. But where was what she was after? Her mind wasn't really on that right now.

What had she been doing? The truth? Hunting evil. "Well, I'm still keeping my hand in history a bit," she shrugged again, not a complete lie, "and I had worked with some crime scene analysts not too long ago." Liz needed to get her out of here before she could successfully get rid of the ghost. Imagine how strange that'd be if the ghosty showed up right then? Bad.
