So, after that last tournament (the first ever one to be completed, no less!) some of you may have thought that there wouldn't be another opportunity to get your hands on a big reward for awhile. Wrong!

Interested in getting your hands on one of the fabled mythic items? Now's your chance! The mythic item Destiny's Cloak is going to be up for grabs. While the Cloak is geared towards Sentinel and Temple Mages, it has some resistances that are extremely helpful no matter who you are.

Destiny's Cloak: Worn by the Arch-Mage Destiny, this cloak weaved from unknown materials grants the owner protection from the elements of light and darkness, reducing the effect of them on the wearer by half. It also increases the power of elemental (thunder, blizzard, fire, water, ice) spells cast by the wearer by 2 ranks.

So, how do you get it? Just check out the following topic and you'll get all the information you need. If you have any questions or comments, please post them here and I'll reply as soon as I'm able.

Alright, so the contest is over! Thanks to everyone who participated. We had five submissions, from:

Septicaemic, Thanatos, Shin, Atonement, and Lucian

Places have already been determined, but I still need to write up the justification/review. In the meantime, why doesn't everyone check out the submissions?

We had some great entries all around this time. I spent a long time trying to decide 2nd and 3rd places – it was really a tossup between three entries, and then a fourth when Lucian submitted his last night. Feel free to talk to me if you want to get some more information concerning what I thought of your entry.

Shin
You did a good job of playing exactly off of the scenario. You kept it pretty simple, but simple is by no means a bad things – I understood everything that happened, even without knowing some of the terms (Masked One, for example). One thing that I feel really broke up the flow of your entry was the way your character thought. It felt very objective. Thoughts can be difficult to write about because we more or less think in poetry. +1 Green Token

Lucian
I really enjoyed how your character’s life flashed before his eyes before/while he was dying, it was really cool about reading some of that. One thing I felt really hurt your entry was how choppy it was. This is really a double edged sword – your short sentences really do a good job conveying that it’s a memory (as memories are often fragments). However, it did get a little repetitive after a while. A lot of the entry was unclear until the end, but you did a good job of wrapping it up there. +1 Green Token

Third Place: Septicaemic
First of all, fantastic descriptions. I felt this was what really made your submission shine – you used a lot of evocative wording. However, I felt that your entry suffered a bit because of this – throughout it all I was never 100% sure quite what was going on. It seemed like I was supposed to feel bad for your fallen character, but I never did. You did do a great job making some parts pretty gruesome. +1 Blue Token, +1 Green Token

Second Place: Atonement
A good flow is what really made your entry shine; you weren’t as descriptive as Septicaemic and some of the others, but your writing was very readable and I never had difficulty understanding what you were saying. Something that I personally thought hurt your entry was how much time you spent just getting to Akara – around a third of your submission, at least. There’s nothing wrong with a little backstory, but I would have preferred to see Levi interact with Akara a bit more. Your ending was great, though, in that it was anti-climactic, ironic, and realistic. Here’s a mage who can take on the worst Akara has to throw at him, but when it comes to a tiny little spider, he’s powerless. We all dream of giving our characters epic deaths, but in the end that isn’t very realistic – most people don’t go out in a blaze of glory. It’s a little controversial how easily you slaughtered the denizens of Akara, but there was nothing in the contest that said you had to write at your current post count. +1 Gold Token, +1 Green Token

First Place: Thanatos
To quote Atonement after he read your entry: Who the hell is Thanatos, and where did he come from? Seriously, I’m wondering the same thing. I didn’t go into your entry expecting anything, and I left amazed. You nailed this, man. You added a lot more depth to the scenario, and effectively brought emotion to the table – it’s hard to make readers feel anything for a character in just 2000 words, but you succeeded. Your descriptions were spot on as well – I could visualize everything, but at the same time I never felt you were spending too much time telling me what everything looked like. My favorite part of the entry was when your kid’s head rolled down the stairs. That was just chillingly awesome.

Congratulations! You’re now the owner of Destiny’s Cloak (and a green token). Enjoy.

A big thanks to everyone who took part! Enjoy your rewards!

I... I'm actually properly speechless.

When I was reading the other entries that came in, I honestly though I was out of the game. There were some good reads there. I certainly didn't think I had any chance of getting into the top three, let alone first.

I was more interested in getting the token if I'm honest, but I won't pass up on a swanky new gown.

Cheers guys.

And congrates to everyone else who took part. smile.gif
