The Lord of the Rings (83+ and compatible)

The Project: The Lord of the Rings 83+

The Reason I Will Not Be Sued For It: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fangame states that "Most companies that don't outwardly promote or challenge fangames have in the past exacted a de facto policy of non-involvement or neutrality, officially stating that their copyrighted material may not be used without permission, but refusing to prosecute fangamers for doing so (other than cases in which games have been sold for profit)." As far as I know, I do not plan to market a TI game as shareware. smile.gif Free games for all!

The Design:
'Twill be a turn-based RPG, so you'll go along fighting Orcs and Goblins and Uruk-Hai, and of course, bosses. If and when I get around to making more than just The Fellowship of the Ring, saved games will be transferable. The Fellowship will cover the formation and journey of the Fellowship starting with Frodo and Sam in the Shire and covering up until the Breaking of the Fellowship and Boromir's death at Amon Hen.
NOTE: I cannot take animated screenshots unless someone knows of a Mac-compatible TI emulator - TI Connect doesn't like the concept. banghead.gif
ALSO NOTE: Powered by xLib v.601b

Features:
- Party system, with up to nine playable characters and three in the front line
- In-game help files
- 18 weapons and 12 kinds of armor
- Special abilities for each character (The Ring for Frodo, for instance)
- Helpful status screen
- Onboard memory-cleaning
- Inventory
- Localized in English and Français

The Status:
--------------------------------------
Basic engine: Partially complete, more advanced hit detection is needed. 60%.
- Details: Current (and rudimentary) collision detection system boils down to "You may step only on tile 0 (blank)." Anything else at all, including would-be decorated blank tiles, blocks it.

Battle engine: Renders all parties involved and "entering battle" animation, as well as status windows, but no actual engine yet. 9%.

Menus: In-game is under construction, main menu not a priority at the moment. 46%.
- Details: Need to finish implementing menu options - namely, HELP page and "quit from menu."

Maps: Not a priority at the moment. 1% (for testing purposes).

Saving/Loading: Implemented, but uncompressed and unencoded. 40%.
- Details: 110 items per list: Eleven stats per character at the moment (Level, EXP, EXP To Next Level, HP, Max HP, Strength, Toughness, Agility, weapon ID, armor ID, and a single bit to determine whether said character is in the party), five numbers to determine location, active party members (stored as a three-digit integer), money, and amounts of inventory items (kingsfoil/athelas, lembas, entwater, and miruvor).

Graphics: Being built as the need arises. 9%.
- Credits: Thanks to BCTurk for party sprites (i.e. Man, Elf, Dwarf, Wizard, Hobbit).

Stats system: Basic stats implemented. Leveling up works - I think - but can't be thoroughly tested since there is no battle engine. 20%.
- Details: See Saving/Loading.

Story implementation: Not a priority at the moment. 0%.

Equipment: 18 different weapons and 12 different kinds of armor, but the shop is not implemented yet. Plus, about a third of each are totally unique and cannot be bought. 45%.
- Details: Need ideas for more weapons and armor.
- Weapons: Torch, knife, Mirkwood bow, Barrow-blade, Axe of Erebor, longsword, composite bow, iron halberd, silver axe, greatsword, Gondorian blade, Naith longbow, Andùril, Galadhrim bow, Balin's axe, Sting, Glamdring, Flame of Anor.
- Armors: Hobbit tunic, Wizard robe, Elven cloak, leather vest, coat of mail, heavy chain, Dwarven mail, silver armor, Rohirrim armor, Gondorian plate, magic shield, Mithril-mail.

Miscellany: Map editor complete, save game editor not a priority at the moment. 50%. (Yes, I AM going to package those with the rest of the game.)

Memory Usage: Not a problem at the moment - heck, I don't even need to archive anything yet.
Total File Size: 10.5KB (10775 bytes) grouped.

Translation to Français: I need to know how to state the purpose of something, as in "One Ring to rule them all." 1%.
- Details: Manual is undergoing a slow translation.

That sound very nice, I hope to see this come out. smile.gif Can ti connect on Mac take screenshots? If so you could take them from here, and if it doesnt allow saving them, maybe try taking a screenshot of the computer desktop area where the screenshot is. Otherwise the only solution is to try on a PC or send the game to someone who can make screenshot sad.gif

TI Connect on a Mac (only Mac linking software I know of) will take still and animated screenshots, but it will take neither as long as a program is in a loop. The calculator has to be either on the homescreen, graph screen, or paused.

Well, What I do is find a part of the game that is most impressive, press ON, and then take a screen shot of that. smile.gif

There is of course the alternative of posting a link to a file and asking politely to get someone to take screenshots of the file in different areas...

Woot, this is testing week in my district.

Meaning lots of progress will (most probably) be made.
Hence, relatively large update today!

EDIT: Realized I should probably state this beforehand. For those of you (probably just tifreak) who know someone in the TI community under the alias "NightWind," this is my new username.
