Is it just me or are scary movies not as scary as they used to be. Granted, I still get scared but they are still really stupid. I just got done watching Dead Silence and it was as dumb as that tooth fairy scary movie. I will probably have nightmares because it looked scary but that is not the point. (I am a wuss) It wasn't as bad as scary movies back 15 years ago.
Am I the only one that feels this way? Are there any good scary movies out anymore? (Granted, I am not going to watch them. I am just curious.) They all seem to just be about blood and gore and the suspense is gone. The same seems to go for video games most of the time too. -------------------- |

Word, Yami! They use blood and gore, but don't do anything else. I mean Jacob's Ladder used shock, but they at least messed with the viewer's head. Romero did character studies, but most horror doesn't deliver. Crap, at least old horror movies were fun in their stupidness.

I don't like scary movies much either but I watch them once in awhile anyway.
When I think of stupid yet funny horror movies I think of The Birds and The Skeleton Key. (Though the Skeleton Key was pretty god awful! "I DON'T BELIEVE!!!!!!!" ) Oh and "When a Stranger Calls." LOL I could not stop laughing. It was so awful! I think horror movies are suffering the same ways action movies are starting to suffer. We have the technology to do all this stuff and people want to go the extra mile to show what they can do. No matter how stupid it is. BUt thats terrible for horror movies. One thing that makes horror movies scary is not knowing what is coming. Once you reveal everything...its not as scary anymore. When too much is shown, there is little unknown. The unknown is the scariest thing! That and people focus so much on the blood and graphics that they forgot all their old techniques on what makes movies suspense full. Funny how something that can make movies better is only making them worse. We need good writers and directors!!! This is why I don't watch movies much anymore... -------------------- |

hmmm, lets see boobs, boobs, and gore
I swear I feel like I'm watching a sick fetish movie especially made for men who have a fetish of watching hot porn stars geting mutilated and/or tortured horribly in their futile attempt to escape. Makes me sick to my stomach. I think I'm more partial to trillers than gore my favorite was Red Eye since the girl wasn't some hapless slut getting stabbed and tortured to appeal to the sadist demographic. -------------------- |

Don't bother with the snuff films, or anything with porn stars in them (or phony porn stars like Hilton). While implying the violence can actually make it more horrifying in the mind, it's tough to do. Take the original Village of the Damned, that one got into the head, too. The scene with the plane still gives me chills.

LOL I forgot about all the horror movies I have seen with all the boobs. Makes me think of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. There have always been scary movies like that but now its just getting worse. (Didn't take me long to get the connection as to why there is always a sex scene in Halloween) I watched the remake of The Hitcher and instead of the girl dieying early they made the guy die instead. They have the girl a lot more airtime. (Because we all know we want to see a girl in a mini skirt and 8 inch tall boots with a shot gun and blowing some guys brains out. Its so much sexier than the guy.
)I don't know who are the porn stars Boogie so that doesn't help. (But I have heard a bit about that whole Pairs Hilton thing. LOL ) I never saw Village of The Damned. If it spooked you out then I would be scared for a month if I watched it. (In fact, last night I slept with my DS on because that image of what I saw yesterday I could not get out of my head. Yeah I know its bad. But I have a deep seated phobia of killer or malicious looking clowns or dolls. ((Except Killer Clowns. That was so stupid it was funny.)) A ghost lady with a deformed doll face because she wanted herself to look like her puppet dolls when she died also counts. Though its nothing too scary and I think I am over it now. Real scary movies have me spooked for so long that I start getting really bad black bags under my eyes. )I usually don't watch many movies either, especially scary movies. However, whenever I come to see my grandparents, my grandpa makes me watch tons of movies. He is a movie fanatic. Its all he does now that he is retired. (I watched a bit of Ferris Beilluer the other day. Now I understand that Family Guy scene...) I will also watch scary movies even if I don't like them in order to try and face my fears and get better. BUT IT WON'T WORK! I still get scared of something from supernatural movies and brain dead after watching he others. Actually I think I was able to watch Poltergeists and not get scared of that. -------------------- |

You really should see the original Village (not the remake), it touches on some interesting topics. Killer Klowns was just a joke. Lemme think... The Killer Shrews was silly... TCM Underground plays some interesting flicks. Oh Val Lewten's movies are pretty good, Cat People and The Seventh Victim were good movies.
Horror flicks to showcase naked flesh ain't anything new, and I'll admit I have mixed feelings about it. But I'd rather watch a good horror movie and a porn, than watch a bad horror/porn flick. You don't really have to know the names of pron stars, they tend to stick out. -------------------- "It is what you read when you don't have to that determines what you will be when you can't help it." - Oscar Wilde

Its not too scary is it? Or is it just something you really need to pay attention to and really think about? (Is it anything like Silence of the Lambs? I was watching that for a short time last night but I had to stop. I got kinda board....though I was playing my DS at the same time so that might explain why. I also didn't catch it from the beginning so I was really lost.) I would assume Killer Clowns would be a joke. Just light Eight Legged Freaks.
...Cat People? But most female movie stars look the same to me. Big breasted and too much make up. Anyway, yeah they really need to stick to one genre and not combine too many other aspects too much. Comedy + Horror = no. Porn + Horror = No. Action + Horror = It could work I guess but I have don't think I have seen many that have. Suspense + Horror = Yes. Though like with any movie, the person needs to know what they are doing. -------------------- |

Village is an old school horror story, actually it's a sci-fi movie. It follows the H.G. Welles rule of having a normal world and introducing one fantastical thing. The violence is more subtle, it's not a buckets of blood flick.
Yeah, but there are some women who got the porn star face. This includes Tara Reid, even though I don't know if she's been in actual porn. -------------------- "It is what you read when you don't have to that determines what you will be when you can't help it." - Oscar Wilde
