Me and My Shadow, A movie by DreamWorks coming in 2014

I'm not going to post this in General Okage since the name of the shadow is most likely a coincidence. But, if a mod feels it necessary, y'know, just move it. Found this on the GameFAQs forums, that like two people are active on (I am not one of those two).

Regardless of the potential Okage link, it sounds like a super cute movie. I'm just worried because it's made by DreamWorks, haha. I hope it's more like How To Train Your Dragon, in the sense that it isn't full of pop music and pop culture references, which are two of DreamWorks' most favorite things.

Sorry to bump my own thread that's pretty lifeless, but I'm curious: Is anyone upset that they may have taken inspiration from Okage?

A handful of people on tumblr are actually mad, yelling copyright infringement, etc. Boogie, obviously you think it's pretty cool, but I'm curious about the other regulars, too.

It really seems like the only similarities between Me and My Shadow and Okage are the name of the shadow, the boring human, and the concept of the shadow being alive/a separate entity.

The description gives me the impression that Shadow Stanley takes full control of Human Stanley, instead of how Okage Stan just hangs out in Ari's shadow most of the time (he does separate from Ari twice in the game, once in Madril to hide Robert's welcome mat, and once in Rashelo to give Ari an item).

It is true that there really isn't enough copyright infringement going on there honestly so one shouldn't get too upset. However...it does raise a question that out of all the names they could use, they picked Stan. Hmmm.

We will have to wait and see how the story plays out. If the character itself acts and looks too much like the Stan we know, then yes, I would be pretty upset too.

I guess I'm just not understanding how it's much different from the makers of Mother 3 taking the names of the twins from The Notebook, The Proof, and the Third Lie, and slapping it on their own characters :< Everyone thought that was cool. It's more like an homage than copyright infringement, to me.

Maybe I'm not as in tune with other Okage fans as I thought, haha.

Part of my reasoning is that it might help raise an awareness for Okage: Shadow King, and it might convince Sony after all these years to do something with the property. Or at the very least gets us more Okage fans. I wouldn't be too surprised if the creators openly acknowledge the influence.

Hmm that would work. However there would need to be a stronger connection made for people that don't know about the game. I think the reason so many are upset is because there is no mention of the game as of right now as inspiration at the very least.

Ahh, that's right. I should have asked what exactly you/others didn't like about it. I'm sorry if my post came across as bratty, haha. At least I have one idea why some people are upset, now.

I'm pretty excited about this movie, I've been following it for awhile. I just hope there are no name changes, cuz fans wont shut their noise hole. This is as close to a okage movie as we're gonna get, people.

Even though its MAY be a coincidence but why "stan" is that a common name for living shadows now? The name means cutter of stone, shadows cant cut worth shit.

Almost 2 years till it comes out. Can't wait to see it. What do you think of that movie Wreck-It-Ralph?

I have no in-depth analysis on Wreck-it Ralph, but it looks like a really fun movie and I can't wait to go see it. I don't know if I've really seen this storyline before, and also I'm pretty excited for the cameos.
