Animation is an incredibly competitive field, and also they hate anime there. You have to be one hundred percent dedicated to being an animator or you'll never make it. I wasn't %100 dedicated, I liked anime and drawing comic books, so I quit. Why pay to go to college for something I'll hate?
But if you're willing to commit your life to animation, go nuts!

Well, it can be a little formulatic.

its more like, see- in American animation, the forcus is more on the animation and less on the detail whereas in Japanese animation, the focus is more on the detail and less on the animation. Since you're studying to be an animator, they want you to know how to animate, and more than loops of mouths moving or hair blowing.
I agree that anime is the shit, I've loved it for years. But if you look at it, like really look at it- almost NONE of it has any good animation, except for a few major motion pictures like Studio Ghibli. the stories and characters and depth of anime is great, but yeah, the animation? Not so much. Lots of still shots and loops and speed lines.
Besides, AI Minneapolis focused more in 3D animation, which I was terrible at anyhow. 2D is slowly dying.

Yeah, it's a sign of the times, but everyone loves old-school.
