Title: Catherine.

Spookty - August 19, 2010 09:34 PM (GMT)
Sorry, all I've got is a trailer.

Oh, and this.

Well, it looks interesting, but I'm a tad put off by the sexual stuff. Oooh, naked ladies. I'm so goddamn impressed.

And yes, that alone sort of makes me not want to play it.

YamiLover13 - August 19, 2010 10:35 PM (GMT)
Thanks for warning me for once. I will give it a watch I guess later...when my bf is NOT in the same room.

(Side note, I am going to be out all day today because Brian slept in and we still need to get more of my stuff ready to move into my dorm room, etc. And he still wants to go out to see his friends and is bringing me along. Last time I got lonely.... So don't wait up for me tonight. I will be on tomorrow and Saturday though. Not sure on Sunday...depends on if I can get the net working in my dorm. )

Boogie Knight - August 20, 2010 01:20 AM (GMT)
This is a great find, Spook. The content in the trailer is pretty... well, but it's nothing you wouldn't have seen in an R-rated movie like Fatal Attraction or Jacob's Ladder. What really freaked me out were the sheep people :stansuprised: I presume it's some otherworldly depiction of the salaryman. Persona 5, I don't think so, but I can't wait to play this game and see what psychological twists and turns it takes.

Spookty - August 20, 2010 02:57 AM (GMT)
Well sure, but when are they gonna start appealing to the audience that wants scantily clad dudes? >> *cough*

That and I don't think I"d even be allowed to play this because of said sexual content, which is a shame because it looks friggin' nuts.

Boogie Knight - August 20, 2010 08:42 PM (GMT)
Hm, every Yakuza game ends with two studly shirtless guys duking it out, and I think Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty had a part in which the hero had to evade the bad guys while nude. Soul Calibur 4's character creator... uh, the guys' clothes were mostly gay :stansweat:

I still think it's funny how violent videogames will get a pass, but touching on sex in games and people weird out.

Spookty - August 20, 2010 08:56 PM (GMT)
The whole reason it would make me not to play is because, well... I don't like watching naked women. *shrug*

YamiLover13 - August 21, 2010 03:53 AM (GMT)
It doesn't count Boogie. None of those guys are ever cute. *SHOT* Well ok I can't speak for the rest of the ladies but I still get the feeling Spooks at least thinks the same considering there are only two or three guys she thinks is good looking.

And I...what is the point of that first game?! D:

-Edit-
And because Spooks refuses to defend the comment I will also list who those three guys are in hopes it makes it worse, and my amusement. Cillian Murphy, Neil Patrick Harris, and...wait was there a third one? I don't know. Maybe it was Hojo. *SHOT* (not quite sure on this). I know she is crazy about the first one though.

Spookty - August 21, 2010 04:33 AM (GMT)
Hey man, if men are allowed to go on and on about a woman's chest, I think women should be able to do the same to men. *cough cough*

And Boogie, I actually know that scene. Isn't it infamous or something?

Boogie Knight - August 21, 2010 11:49 PM (GMT)
I'm a grown up, I can handle a little girl talk. And I could think of it as espionage :stantounge:

I was just kidding around about the Yakuza games, they take of their shirts to display the fullbody tattoos as they fight(Example). The tats have are intended to have symbolic value, but I was joking that it was shameless pandering to women. It's a little convoluted.

*looks up Cillian Murphy* Oh he was in 28 Days Later! No offense, Spook, but the guys you go for look a little.. anemic :stantounge:

Spookty - August 22, 2010 12:21 AM (GMT)
Well yeah, they have to be weaker than I am. >83

I played the Yakuza 3 demo, dunno why but I wasn't really into it.

YamiLover13 - August 22, 2010 12:28 AM (GMT)
Rule of the wise...stay far away from Spooks when she makes that face. :stansweat: *runs*

Boogie Knight - August 22, 2010 03:33 PM (GMT)
The games not for everybody, and it's not till the last few boss fights that it gets really good.

But doesn't the whole weaker than you thing conflict with protectiveness?

Spookty - August 22, 2010 06:41 PM (GMT)
Yes. That was a joke with the purpose of messing with people.

YamiLover13 - August 22, 2010 11:34 PM (GMT)
Joke? Wait I thought you said you were serious about that. Or was it that you wanted a man that you could pretty much walk all over? :x

Boogie Knight - August 23, 2010 12:19 AM (GMT)
Or maybe she wants someone who'd rush to her defense and get beaten down in the process :stantounge:

YamiLover13 - August 23, 2010 12:19 AM (GMT)
Probably both, knowing her. XD

Boogie Knight - August 26, 2010 04:06 PM (GMT)

YamiLover13 - August 26, 2010 04:09 PM (GMT)
....how did we not catch that before? :stansweat: What a wonderful game to have a connection with. At least it tells us a bit more about wtf the story is about. Sorta....ish

Sweetsuzie - August 26, 2010 08:42 PM (GMT)
OMG BOOBS, that is like so amazing *cough*

Annnyways aside from the topic of Spooks ideal men, I think I would need more info on this game. ITs strange and intriguing but at the same time it seems to be totally centered arround the "female is made for the male, and thus sex, sex, and moar sex"

Boogie Knight - August 27, 2010 01:54 AM (GMT)
A fair critique, Suzy. Yet, I think one's outlook on sex can be helpful in trying to get a picture of a person's mentality, and a person with a stunted mindset will likely have a hard time getting past "woman as object" thinking. Silent Hill 2 was rife with this theme, and it was a brilliant game. Maybe by the time the game ends, the hero will have a more normal attitude towards sex and women :stanconfused:

As for Catherine herself, we don't know much about her, but if she has a hypersexual mindset it could be: A. personal or B. cultural. I think more so than the past few generations before us there's a feeling of being untethered... like we're drifting off being tossed around by the currents... or maybe in free fall. Excessive sexual activity for some may be an attempt to shortcut the normal work it took to get to know people and just get the feeling of being connected. I don't think we should write off the character just yet, even if it turns out she has fallen prey to the same pitfalls that many among us have slipped into. Besides, it wouldn't be that interesting if the characters were all well adjusted :stantounge:

Ruka - August 28, 2010 09:05 PM (GMT)
I haven't seen too much on it, and the one thing I know for sure is that A. I'm not gonna be getting it for at least 4 years, and... well, we already know point B, with the P3P ties. What I wonder is, what exact kind of ties it has with the Persona series. If there's a lot...then oh boy, will I try to get my hands on it four years from now. I don't care about the...y'know. :stansweat: But as long as it plays out good, then I'll give it a shot.

Boogie Knight - August 28, 2010 11:57 PM (GMT)
I really don't believe that it's just going to be about shameless titillation. I think it'll be more like Jacob's Ladder, maybe Fatal Attraction (though I haven't actually seen the movie, just heard about it from some program analyzing it).

Boogie Knight - October 9, 2010 03:06 PM (GMT)
Sorry I don't have a link to the story, but looks like the game will have multiple endings. Not sure what kinds of choices the player will be faced with.

YamiLover13 - November 14, 2010 10:30 PM (GMT)
Forgot to bring the magazine but the latest issue of the...whatever the heck magazine I keep getting in the mail is thanks to having a Gamestop card is. I think it is Game informer.

Anyway, what I do remember from the VERY brief review about the game was that it will not be a pure adult game and is not as bad as the trailer makes it seem. Though it is still touching on the subject a lot. There are two love interest the man deals with, Cathrine and Kathrine. Finally, though I think this was already said, every time he goes to sleep he has to try and not die and ascend this staircase in his nightmares or he will die in real life like many others have been lately.

Sweetsuzie - November 16, 2010 05:30 AM (GMT)
I got that too its game informer magazine btw dez check the zombified version theory article, it has a picture of Zombie kirby terrorizing DeeDee. :stantounge:

Boogie Knight - November 18, 2010 07:09 PM (GMT)
It was early September... but if they are in the final tuning, then it's only a matter of time before we hear about the US release (hopefully, Atlus will fight any effort to censor the release).

Boogie Knight - January 3, 2011 07:02 PM (GMT)
Demo planned for PSN

I'm curious how it'll play more than anything.

Boogie Knight - January 14, 2011 10:08 PM (GMT)

Sweetsuzie - January 14, 2011 10:29 PM (GMT)
your like Frued reincarnated. :stantounge:

I think this game will be very meaningful and have a certain level of complex psychological motifs and its not some "porn" as one of my peers called it and corrected him that the trailer is not a preview of some sex game. Its about psychology and its ties with sexuality. I think we can all related alittle with Vincent. I'm sure some of us feel shy about sex or simply perish the thought as something unclean and maybe even unpleasent and scary.

Boogie Knight - January 16, 2011 04:09 AM (GMT)
:stanblush:

Big ups for pointing out the distinction. It'll be easy to dismiss the game as a pornographic game, and that does bother me some. I've been doing a little reading on the "herbivores" and I happened on one article with an image that was especially disturbing: And I'm thinking, "Does this guy even realize what an embarrassment he is to... humanity? How much nothing does a person have to do with their life to be middle aged and turning to imaginary friends for lovers? :stansuprised:

Sweetsuzie - January 17, 2011 12:52 AM (GMT)
Thats nothing: this guy fricken marries his ds xl (xl model cuz he's a chubby chasing size whore.) :stantounge: Happy birthday, my sweet. >3> notice how these are all ds xl models? talk about being a size whore. :stantounge:

In case your wondering if this thing has a official headcase name: its called pygmalionism, and its not a new issue. Its beens first shown as early as when the greek myth sculpture named pygmalion was simply disatisfied with the women on his island. Most of the women were uninteligent, narrow minded and only interested in gossiping away about scandalous things. Pygmalion thought there was no woman made on earth that would be his soulmate, so he made himself one out of marble, he took care scuplting it, kiss it and gave it gifts and clothes. Even the villagers agree that its was the fairest looking female in the island, but pointed out she is a it and not alive. Furter ostrasized he beged Aphrodite to make his bride alive. The godess felt pity for him and made it so when he kissed his statue lover one more time she would be flesh and blood, he named his happy bride Galatea, and they live together in bliss.

I believe pgymalionism stems form a combo of inferiority/superiority complex and gyno/andro either myso(hatred) or phobia (fear) form.

Boogie Knight - January 17, 2011 04:08 AM (GMT)
I'm familiar with the myth, in high school read the play Pygmalion, and even saw the film version My Fair Lady :stantounge: Still, wanting to marry, to love IP... an idea without a body... ugh. A flesh and blood woman is more interesting, though it's her personhood which makes her so. I'm going to stop before everyone is convinced I'm a raging pervert or a hopeless romantic.

Sweetsuzie - January 17, 2011 05:01 AM (GMT)
I figured you would know the myth and the play inspired by it, but I was thinking of a little story time for the others. (probably got bored to tears. MUHAHAHAH)

Oh god, dont say it like that. :stanwink:

I got the email a little bit ago myself. I heard that Catherine might be a Japan only title, and I was fuming.

Boogie Knight - March 1, 2011 08:21 PM (GMT)

Spookty - March 2, 2011 10:04 AM (GMT)
Somehow I get the feeling that K/Catherine will be malicious in their own ways, if they are malicious.

Sweetsuzie - March 3, 2011 12:54 AM (GMT)
Ok, me and my friends are playing the japanese version now, soo....:

I think I will get this game for english, cuz I cant stand not knowing what exactly being said and the nature of the hypothetical questions.
> The girl Catherine is a some kind of demon succubus, seducing the timid Vincent to cheat on his fiance, Katherine.

> Combat system is like a really fucked up game of tetris, you have to manipulate block and climb to the top like a scared bitch you are, and avoid the horrible mindfuck nightmare fuel. ( THAT @ss MONSTER YO!!!! D8)

>You have choices that change each time you have to restart a stage, if you want the "good" ending you have to pick choices that are align with Katherine (blue) Pink represents Catherine's alignment.

>You can play two player on a stage but only if you complete the story on normal, which is quite a feat, considering this game is REALLY REALLY difficult even on easy mode. Expect no mercy.
Spookty - March 3, 2011 02:11 AM (GMT)
Aha! I knew that hobag was evil.

Boogie Knight - March 3, 2011 02:42 AM (GMT)
I stopped once I read the top line. I knew from the start, but at the same time I want to see the way the story unfolds firsthand... and like any first play trust my instincts and make my own way.

Spookty - March 3, 2011 03:02 AM (GMT)
Meh, I generally get bad vibes from hobags. 8p
