Title: I Need Opinions
Description: How do YOU think the forum should be run
Forbidden Toast - July 28, 2009 04:50 AM (GMT)
Quite honestly, and probably obviously to all of you, I'm not very good at playing the admin because I was never around. I simply AFK'd my @ss out to "I'm going to not post and make excuses later" land and left Boogie Knight to do all the mod work, which really is not fair. Anyone who reads the old forum guidelines can tell that College really made me a lot more relaxed about rules and I simply stopped caring.
Random role-playing ? I don't really care
Cursing ? I don't really care
Dirty References ? I don't really care
Off Topic ? Not really
Vague topic titles ? Whatever
Disagreements with Others: Where is the fine line between a discussion and something leading up to a fight ?
I don't always know the best ways to handle situations, and my opinion is obviously not the only one. I don't really know how anyone feels about me ditching people for long periods of time, and some of you are so new I just don't know much about you at all. This forum caters to a few very active members, but they are of a wide age group ranging from 12-24 or something like that, and that's a good 2 to 3 different generations.
I guess I just wanted other peoples opinion on the matter. How do YOU guys want the forum to run? This place is so small I've been just kicking up my feet and letting everyone just have fun however they want, because that's what I've been doing as well, but I wasn't sure how all of you felt about this. I'm not sure if some people are getting offended by some topics, or if I handle situations in the right manner.
To sum it up:
Please, everyone's opinion.
Rosalyne - July 28, 2009 05:01 AM (GMT)
I think the place is running smoothly anywho~ :stanhuh:
Not a problem with me~
Spookty - July 28, 2009 05:19 AM (GMT)
No problem. As long as a big flame war doesn't break out, I suppose.
Oh, and we should probably have people tell us their age when they join so we don't accidentally say something really messed up or something.... that would be hard to do. Maybe make sure we don't talk about things that really gross/freak other members out? I dunno.
Ruka - July 28, 2009 05:44 AM (GMT)
I have to agree with both Rosa and Spook. The forum as of now is running smoothly, but I'm the youngest here at age 13. I haven't noticed anything disturbing...wait, scratch that, only once, but thats a veeery long story. I was shocked to the point I was disturbed a little, but again: Long story. I just want to take at least some pre-caution of a few things, but I already am.
Thats all I have to say for my opinion.
Forbidden Toast - July 28, 2009 05:50 AM (GMT)
I'm glad everyone is good with how things are going. Clearly I'm the one who overreacts here and misunderstands things!
Last thing I want to be is the overbearing mother, so carry on.
Forbidden Toast - July 28, 2009 05:55 AM (GMT)
You're all creepy stalkers. I know we can't possible have 11 guests on this obscure forum about a very underrated video games.
I love all of you and I'm guilty of guest stalking too sometimes, but I just wanted to say this is seriously creepy xD; Everyone doing it at once that is!
Ruka - July 28, 2009 05:59 AM (GMT)
Stalkers? What are you talking about? Don't you mean, that you're acting like an Eagle, watching over every little thing everyone does, like I do using the online users panel? :standude: :stantounge:
Spookty - July 28, 2009 06:06 AM (GMT)
If there's like, one guest repeatedly checking the online users list, it's probably me. I tend to check the forum a lot when I get bored and restless.
Hey Toast, maybe we could implement some kind of mature content warning? 'Cause I remember that one time where a thread almost devolved into some kind of ero torture chamber or something, and I'm not so sure I'd like little kiddies stumbling upon something like that.
Ruka - July 28, 2009 06:14 AM (GMT)
Spook, I know I'm not Toast, but I manage an invisionfree forum, but I don't think a such thing would be possible. And what topic are you talking about? If it only happened once, then it is most likely to not happen again for a long time, and I'm just asking out of curiosity.
Spookty - July 28, 2009 06:19 AM (GMT)
I don't remember exactly, but the situation sticks out in my mind.
I'd settle for just warning people in their intro threads, since we do make the occasional naughty joke, and I am pretty sure Boogie is a nice healthy red blooded male. That and I'm not a fan of exposing the little beady eyed kids to heavy swearing unless they've already fallen into the habit.
Ruka - July 28, 2009 06:28 AM (GMT)
That would be good in my opinion.
As for swearing...Um, yeah. We have that covered. :stansweat: You have never seen me IRL with my best friend. Its not that bad-bad most of the time (She's the one that does the extremely taboo ones) but we drop it heavy sometimes. Reeeaaally bad habit of mine. :stansweat:
Forbidden Toast - July 28, 2009 06:39 AM (GMT)
I think the spoiler tab would be fine if it's in a thread that normally doesn't have explicit content, and if it's a thread exclusively for something, lets say, a bit more risque, a warning in the thread title might be appropriate. I'm not going to try and find a way to implement any sort of age restriction, because I honesty think everyone can judge their own maturity level on here (or at least I hope) so I don't think that's necessary (or like Rika said, possible).
I just think it was hilarious everyone was ghosting at the same time. Especially since you can tell who the ghosts are by the random posts that pop up from users that aren't shown as online.
Personally I'm used to people swearing because I'm around it ALL THE TIME between home and school and I just don't say words I don't like and ignore them from others and say ones I don't care about, but on a random note, people that can put the f word into one sentence 15 times sound like absolute morons.
Yet I laugh.
Ruka - July 28, 2009 06:44 AM (GMT)
I'm around it all the time too at school. I hear it about 5 times a day at school. :stanstare:
Sadly, I am a person who can acomplish that feat, but only because I know how I could put it into one hell of a weird random sentence. Strangely, I know a girl who has serious issues. She's emo, into drugs, likes to feel pain, and the total amount of times she's used the f word in a sentence was 50 times. I'm just glad I wasn't around at that time.
Spookty - July 28, 2009 06:45 AM (GMT)
No problem. I don't think any little kids would pop up here, but I get pretty pissed when parents scream obscenities at their kids. It's really weird hearing little kids calling eachother fuckers/niggers [which I have heard...] Maybe because kids are supposed to be innocent or something.
Also, I'm trying to decide which PS1 game I want on my PSP first. Not FF 7, too much memory and I really only pay attention to Hojo anyways. I'd download 9 if they had it... Eh. There was a Power Stone remake on the PSP, but I can't find it on their UMD Legacy. I'm thinking either Spyro 2, Spyro 3 or Crash: Warped.
Forbidden Toast - July 28, 2009 06:49 AM (GMT)
I can think of a lot of long games like FF, but if you're looking in the short memory area I think Spyro is the way to go. I don't remember if 2 or 3 is better. Once upon a time, before Tomb Raider started to suck, Tomb Raider 2 was quite possible the best Tomb Raider ever made, followed by 3 which was OK, then it was all downhill from there until they remade the first game. Oh, and Ape Escape, because Specter is awesome.
Spookty - July 28, 2009 06:52 AM (GMT)
Ripto's Rage is my favorite, but I really like Year of the Dragon, too. Stupid new Spyro trilogy making Hunter all retarded...
Heh, most of my memory is being taken up by demos right now. Eh, I'm thinking of getting both Spyro games. Maybe Ape Escape. I remember playing it when I was younger, and I do know who Specter is, but other than that I don't remember much.
Forbidden Toast - July 28, 2009 06:54 AM (GMT)
I have a think for comically intelligent evil monkeys.
Ruka - July 28, 2009 07:03 AM (GMT)
Ape Escape...I've played it once before when I was little, but I didn't get how to play it very well. :stansweat: I still wanna try Ape Escape 3 sometime. Thats the one where the monkeys try to take over Television, right? :stanconfused:
Spookty - July 28, 2009 07:07 AM (GMT)
Well, actually I remember that the monkeys had mind control devices and Specter looked vaguely cool... yeah, that's about it. I played the first one on an emulator, but the controls were weird.
Forbidden Toast - July 28, 2009 07:35 AM (GMT)
Spector had a way of being cool and adorably cute at the same time, while trying to be super evil.
Spookty - July 28, 2009 07:43 AM (GMT)
Eh, I'll have to check it out again. I don't remember weather the first ones I played were on PS1 or PS2... Oh well.
Forbidden Toast - July 28, 2009 08:12 AM (GMT)
I'm going to go completely off topic here and say I was just watching
this and I bursted out laughing, watched it again, and started laughing again, then watched it several more times.
It's a lot funnier if you watch
this first, if you haven't heard this song yet.
That and due to the nostalgia of this conversation, I just popped Ape Escape into my PS2.
Ruka - July 28, 2009 08:55 AM (GMT)
This just came to me, Toast, but while I was browsing some things on my invisionfree forum, an opinion/question struck me that would be really helpful...
It would be helpful if I could use the avatars on my computer that I can download from photobucket, since many avatars I have found to my liking I can't use because the link is too long. Would it be possible if that feature could be put up?
Spookty - July 28, 2009 09:04 AM (GMT)
Ah, If You Were Gay... heh... Of course I know that song.
Huh, that made me randomly think of that song about everybody being a little racist. It's from Avenue Q too, right? Now that I think of it, it's true. Even if you try, you still use stereotypes and maybe a little racism to judge people. That's the sucky thing about stereotypes. They tend to be true some of the time.
Forbidden Toast - July 28, 2009 09:15 AM (GMT)
Does this site help, Ruka? I'm not sure if I can change a setting that actually allows links to be longer. I'm not 100% sure I understand your problem.
Everything that's funny has truth to it, but you could say something nasty about every race, nationality, religion, etc that has truth to it. I don't think racism is good, but some people take it way too seriously and take things that were in no way attending to be racist, and say that they are. My mom is the least racist person I know, she may be a little bit racist, as the song implies everyone is, but she is the closet person I know to not being racist. Her friend called her a racist biggot and stopped talking to her because she said something like "This store is really packed and I can't understand what people are saying" and her friend interpreted it as racism against Mexicans.
People are too defensive... and sometimes crazy. Figured everyone knew the Gay song but I thought I should post it anyways just in case.
Spookty - July 28, 2009 09:22 AM (GMT)
Eh. Around here we're like... surrounded by Mexicans, it's weird. I really don't have anything against them other than the general ridiculous loudness.
Ruka - July 28, 2009 09:25 AM (GMT)
Not exactly what I was talking about, since I could control the option for members to use their own avatars from their computer, but I'll shut up with my bitching. I'll try out the thing. Thank you, and hopefully it works. ><
Forbidden Toast - July 28, 2009 09:26 AM (GMT)
Heh, I wonder if you live next to me. I can't even practice my Spanish because they talk to fast and slur too much.
Of course, though, English is the hardest language to learn. If I wanted to move to Spain (I won't say Mexico, because I wouldn't want to move there) I'd try to learn Spanish first, I think... for my own sanity.
EDIT: Ruka, then why not just leave that as an option and make the icon size limit large? If they can upload it from their computer it shouldn't be a problem?
Spookty - July 28, 2009 09:32 AM (GMT)
Not unless you live about two hours away from Newport and live in an apartment complex with an eerie amount of people who enjoy yelling loudly in Spanish and has the added bonus of the security cameras being about as useful as a dead starfish.
Eh, I'd like to visit France and Britain.
Link is too long? Eh? Photobucket links are average size, I... guess?
Ruka - July 28, 2009 09:33 AM (GMT)
Apparently, I got an error message saying, "That is not a valid file extention." :stanstare:
I'll try to find what I was talking about from my admin CP from my website. I'm thinking that maybe its because this place was created about 5 years ago, and the option for users to use their own avatars from their computer wasn't available then. I'm checking right now.
I'm sorry if I'm seeming so persistant about this, but...I hated having to make a whole topic because I couldn't get a avatar up, and I'm hating that this is happening, again. My first problem, was of course, a too long link, which Rosa fixed then. But I'll try to see what I can do.
Spookty - July 28, 2009 09:33 AM (GMT)
Oh! That's happened to me before. I usually just cursed a bit and used a different avatar.
Forbidden Toast - July 28, 2009 09:38 AM (GMT)
Oh that still happens to me too. Usually you can compress your image quality and it will work, I think there is also an option to enlarge the image file allowed somewhere, I'd have to find it I'll look in a minute.
Eh, Newport too? Rode Island? I thought we had a lot being on the border, how quickly things spread.
I'd love to visit anywhere in Europe, Japan, New Zeland, Hawaii (since I have a really old online friend that lives there), etc you name it. I'd just like to travel, since my family could never afford it. Only "out of the country" I've been to is Canada. I love traveling but family road trips aren't really my cup of tea.
Spookty - July 28, 2009 09:40 AM (GMT)
Newport, Oregon. I'd like to live there, except I'm paranoid of living in places with tsunami warning signs.
Eh, I've only ever been in Idaho and Oregon. Say, is it ridiculously cold in Canada?
Ruka - July 28, 2009 09:45 AM (GMT)
If the file manager has a small section of free room for avatars, then it would show it. If not, then it must mean that its not available for here. Thats what I'm thinking.
Forbidden Toast - July 28, 2009 09:46 AM (GMT)
I walked across the Niagara Falls bridge and into a gift shop, then we left. We had maybe 1 hour of Canada, and ate Canadian ice cream.
Conclusion
1. It is not cold in Canada in the summer
2. Canadian icecream tastes the same as American icecream
Is it true Idaho is full of potatoes?
EDIT: Ruka- all avatar options should be under User Profile. I'm pretty sure uploading from your computer is enabled by default, although I thought there was also a way to turn it off.
Spookty - July 28, 2009 09:50 AM (GMT)
I was born in Idaho, actually. It's not full of potatoes, per se, but we still ate potatoes a lot. Maybe that's why I like mashed potatoes so much. Huh. I once read a thing that said Idaho was in most danger of terrorist attacks, and I thought "Why the hell would Idaho get bombed? Do the terrorists hate potatoes?"
Fun fact: My big treat growing up was actually pickled cow heart. Yes, pickled cow heart. I grew out of it after a few years, though.
You can upload from your computer? Damn, I've been using Photobucket the whole time. I have a huge amount of avatars on my Photobucket, you know.
Forbidden Toast - July 28, 2009 09:52 AM (GMT)
I saw pictures of someone eating a pig brain once, it made me flinch.
You could eat a cow heart, huh? I'm impressed.
And yeah, I don't know why anyone would bomb Idaho. It is probably one of the safer places to be.
Ruka - July 28, 2009 09:53 AM (GMT)
Yeah, there was an option. I'm just trying to find it right now...
Yeah, that was always available, Spook. It just got turned off, somehow.
Spookty - July 28, 2009 09:57 AM (GMT)
Oh well. I guess I'll go see if I can find it.
Yeah, I never really thought about the fact that eating cow heart might be gross at the time. I mean, my mother, father and I have all had cow heart, but I can't stand the thought of eating cow tongue to this very day.
Damn, now I want mashed potatoes. With turkey gravy.
Forbidden Toast - July 28, 2009 10:02 AM (GMT)
Ruka I just looked through every setting and I can't find it anywhere... how annoying!
