PROFESSOR VANISHES WITHOUT A TRACE IN MISKATONIC LIBRARY

Professor Martin Henderson disappeared from the Miskatonic Library two days ago under bizarre conditions that have yet to be explained. He has not been seen since, and is a considered missing person by the Arkham Police.

According to long-time librarian Henry Armitage, Henderson entered the library at precisely 1:15PM and requested a particular volume from the infamous occult section of the library's collection, which is on reserve and cannot be removed from the premises. He then entered one of the oak-finish reading rooms in the far corners of the library. As far as anyone knows, he spent the entire time inside reading the tome. According to Miskatonic freshman Sandra Clemens: "I saw some guy nose-deep in this dusty old book when I passed through the library. I passed him again about half an hour later when I left, and he was still there." Interviews with students indicate that Henderson had been in the reading room until at least 2:45PM.

Then, shortly before 3:00PM, a strange noise was heard throughout the library, though there is no unanimous agreement on exactly what it was. Some patrons remember a bassy rumbling without any particular distinction. Others claim to have heard an incredibly deep voice bellow a phrase in a foreign tongue which seemed to consist of mostly guttural consonants. Regardless, all agree that the source of the strange sound was within Henderson's private reading room.

Curious students approached it within seconds, yet found it completely empty. While it could be assumed that Henderson simply got up and left, this seems to have been impossible - the door was bolted from the inside. The actual room appeared to be in no disarray, though early arrivers on the scene described a strange ashy smell permeating the air. The book Henderson had borrowed was lying open on the reading desk.

Armitage thought little of the incident, though he had a great deal of trouble getting the door open and ultimately had to break the lock. It was only upon closing when he received a call from Henderson's wife wondering if her husband had left yet that he began to suspect something might be afoot. When Henderson did not return home later that night, she called the police.

Despite many witnesses who saw Henderson in the reading room, no one has yet admitted to seeing him exit. Police are still investigating, and urge students and faculty to come forward with any information they might have.
