I put this poll up so we could learn a bit more about each other and the rest of the world. I watched a program a few days ago, about how gun culture in America is out of control and stuff. A lot of people put it down to scare propergander on TV, and said there were so many guns about because it made people feel safe. Over here in England, it isn't that bad. Guns aren't that common, (unless you know where to go), but with the whole terrorist war thing going on, it's bound to make things worse, even some people I know have resorted to getting guns ilegally to protect themselves, should these terrorists come knocking on thier door. But what my question is, do you think the media is making this worse by buttering it up for their ratings, and at the same time, causing panic, or do you think it's neccessary to keep people informed?

Yeah. Well I'm not saying that there are no problems, and no offense to any fans of Bush, but I'm not the greatest fan of how he's handling things. But that's completely out of my hands. Hell, I'm not even american, lol so Bush is hardly gonna listen to me, lol. Seems a lot of people have mixed views on this. Everyone says it's too much, but then again, a lot of us a re to blame. Surely, since all this started a few years ago, we've been extra cautious walking around the streets and jumped at trouble more than we normally would? This seems to be making quite the response even though there aren't many people here. Maybe I'll take this onto GUA...(hmm, decisions, never my strong point
Actually, my mate just pointed this out. You're all thinking I'm talking about the bush administration, and gun culture in america. But let's think of this. It can't all come down to the guns flying around. Last I knew, the canadian gun laws are the same as the american gun laws, yet approximately 12000 people were killed by guns in america, but in canada you'd be lucky to come up with more than 100. Thats less than 1%. The media in america is a lot more about death, destruction and the like, whereas in canada, you can come across the cat up the tree story. That kind of starts a link between media scaring people and gun violence. Maybe not a complete link, but maybe it'll give you guys something extra to think about -------------------- Mediwar Player

It's like Marilyn Manson said, I can't remember this exactly, but "On TV you've got death, war, famine, cut to commercial and it's 'buy the toothpaste or you'll smell and you'll have no friends, buy the acne cream or girls arn't going to fuck you...'"
It's all scare propagana, being beamed into every house around the world whenever you like, just turn on your television. Did you know, in America, Bush won't let the television executives show negative images of the Iraq war? Because it brings down support for him, but show all the gun violence and commercials you want because it "helps the economy." If this makes no sense it's because it's late and I'm tired, but you get my point. -------------------- Mediwar Player
