This had all started as a joke. They joked like this all the time, about dating each other. But they'd never actually followed through with any of it. They'd joked about it, but actually doing something they joked about was making her thing about things a little differently. It was making her nervous. She hadn't ever felt nervous around Ty, but things felt different. She didn't know why, but things felt a little different. She was taking this seriously, and she didn't completely understand why. She'd let her sister help her pack, as usual, and this time, not forgetting to pack things for a real date. She hadn't really gone into detail with Anna, that hadn't been something she wanted to do at all, but she did say it was going to be a nice date. Which meant a nice dress, nice shoes, jewelry, and much more makeup than she would generally consider bringing.

They'd had a normal day at the booth, and usually that was followed with a night out having fun wherever people had decided to gather that night. But not tonight. Tonight they were dressing up and going out on a real date. She'd done her hair and her makeup, for once. She knew how to do both of those things, she just didn't very often. It was one of the nice things about having sisters who were much more into their appearances than she was. She knew how to make herself look nice, she'd learned, she just didn't care often enough to do it on a regular basis. Dressing up like this for her best friend, though, was completely different. She'd done this before, gone on real dates, dressed up to have a nice time, but not for Ty. When they went out it was jeans and t-shirts and no mention of the word 'date.' This was unfamiliar territory for them, and she wasn't sure either of them really knew what was going to happen. This could potentially change everything.

To make it a real date, and officially real date he was "picking her up" even though they had their usual arrangement of rooms right next to each other. And she'd kept the door closed while she got ready. If they were doing this for real, all the details mattered. Even if this didn't change anything, they'd both agreed, this was a real date, and they were going to do it right.

i saw the sky like i never seen before
So this was happening. He was excited. He had never actually been on a real date before, not really. He had taken a few girls to the movies and to dinner before, went to bars. But never a real date where he dressed up and looked nice and tried to impress. That had never happened because that just wasn't how he worked. He didn't date people, not really. He didn't have girlfriends. He had girls he had sex with it and sometimes he had sex with the same girl a lot and they hung out. He did that with Joey but it was so far from being a relationship, they hung out and sometimes had sex while hanging out. They went out to bars and stuff but he never took her on a date. He was taking Jenna on a date. A real date. If he was going to go on ad ate with anyone he'd actually rather it be his best friend. He was going to marry this girl one day, he might as well take her on a date.

Plus he just wanted to do this. Ty was very aware of their relationship. To him their relationship was a great building up story to them being romantically involved. It was something that was destined in the stars. Unless there was some other amazing woman or man out there for one of them Jenna was the person he was supposed to be with. Their friendship and past would just make them better as couple, whenever that happened. And maybe this was the start of it, put it in motion. He was positive if he had ever made a move on her before they could have had something. Back in high school they could have had something. But he never did because he loved being her friend. If she had ever hinted to them being something more he would have jumped at it. She finally did, she wanted him to take her on a date and he had agreed so quickly. He was taking this a little less seriously then he could though, he had some great stuff happening at home. A couple days after they decided to go on a date he ran into Isabelle Madison and she totally let him have sex with her, it was great. This was probably awful timing.

He had spent a lot of the day thinking about this and what could maybe happen. This could be the start of something major. Or it could just be fun. They got back from the convention floor and he took a shower and ironed his clothes before laying down for a while and finally getting dressed. He figured it would take longer for Jenna to get ready and he needed to mentally prepare himself. Once he was dressed and he was sure his hair looked fine, he left him room and went out to the hallway where he knocked on hers. They were going on a date, he was going to do it right.

She didn't really know where this was leading. She didn't know how serious to take this. And that made it a whole lot harder to really decide what was happening. They were best friends, they always had been, and this wasn't necessarily anything at all. But she had kind of decided to take things seriously. And that was confusing the hell out of her. She had no idea what she was doing right now. She just didn't. She hadn't thought about them like this, pretty much ever, but taking it seriously, actually doing what they joked about, that was changing everything. She'd mostly been joking about him taking her out. She'd expected nothing or just going to dinner and bullshitting everything, but going out and doing this for real was messing with how she saw their relationship. She hadn't thought that would happen, not at all, but it was. She had no idea what was going to happen, but she was pretty sure this wasn't going to be what she'd thought when she told him he owed her a date.

She heard the knock and grabbed the purse she'd had to borrow from Anna before heading toward the door. She took a last look at herself in the mirror, which wasn't at all like her, before opening the door with a smile. She wasn't feeling quite like herself, not right now. The way she was around him wasn't how she felt right now. She was nervous and a little shy and she didn't really know why. She'd never put this much effort into hanging out with him before, and it just made her feel different. They were doing this for real. This was how you did this for real and she didn't know how she felt about everything. She was confused, but she was looking forward to this. "Hey," she said softly. "We ready?"

All of his jokes were completely and utterly serious. Ty always meant everything he said to her. She was beautiful, she was the prettiest girl in the world, she was the love of his life, he would marry her one day. He meant all of it. But they were friends for the time being. They were going to continue to be friends and partners. And one day they'd have a relationship. One day someone would make a move and they'd be a couple. One day he'd get jealous she had a boyfriend or he'd be drunk and kiss her or Jenna would hug him too long or they'd wake up too close and they'd kiss. Something. Something would happen and change everything. He firmly believed that. It hadn't happened before and they had been best friends for almost twenty years at this point. Maybe it was happening now. Maybe they would go on this date and that would set things in motion or maybe this would just be a really fun time. Something could happen and nothing might.

She opened the door and he just looked at her for a few moments with a smile. She looked great. She looked great him. He had seen her dress up plenty of times, they had gone to a bunch of events together where they both had to dress up. But she had put on that dress and that make up for him. "Yeah, I'm so ready if you are." he said before holding his hand out to her. "You look amazing, beautiful." he added quickly, still smiling stupidly at her. She looked great. She pretty much always out shined him but she looked amazing tonight. He was excited.

She'd never taken any of it seriously. It was all just a joke, something that was part of their friendship. It was constant, it was always part of how they talked to each other. The closeness and joking about marrying each other, that was something they just did, but she couldn't really picture it. The fact that they were always together, always close to each other, they spent the night together occasionally, didn't mean anything more than friendship to her. Even this hadn't meant anything else, but something had changed from the time she'd suggested it until now. It was always going to be completely and totally platonic until he made it more. Because she wasn't thinking that way at all. She didn't think about him like that. She didn't think about him as a brother, either, but she didn't think of him like that. And that was starting to change.

They'd dressed up for events before, dressed up like this, but not for each other. Not like this. Not like a date. It was completely different. And that made it feel different. Dressing up for him and not just to go out and do something with him, was different. And it made her got a funny feeling in her stomach when he saw her. She actually blushed at the compliment as she took his hand. "Thanks." She was excited about this too. This was so different from what they usually did. It was all different and she didn't entirely know how to act right now. She was just a little unsure right now, because this was not something she as prepared to deal with, but she'd figure it out.

One reason he had never made a move was because he knew Jenna wasn't as serious about the jokes as he was. She liked where she was, what her life was. She wasn't very keen on change. He loved change, he loved when things evolved and got better. She didn't. Jenna would be content with her life where it was for a very long time. She had a pretty nice apartment and a successful comic book and she was her own boss and she was so pretty and nerd boys liked her. That was fine honestly. But Ty didn't want to just be stuck here. He had never have a serious relationship but if he was going to have one, he'd like it to be with Jenna. They were meant to move on. Career wise or personally wise. They weren't going to be here forever. It was great, he loved it, but he liked change and adaption and growth and he was completely serious.

She was wearing a great dress for him. She had been his date for weddings before but it was different when it was just them. ANd they weren't home, there was no one around who really knew them really well. They most likely wouldn't run into any of their con friends tonight. It was just them and she looked amazing for him, that was such a big deal and he liked it. It made it different. His smile grew at her blush but he didn't comment on it, even though it was very much something he'd normally comment on. Instead he just gave her hand a little squeeze and gently pulled her out of the room, closing the door behind her. He gave her one last smile before beginning to walk down the hall, never letting go of her hand. "I literally made of a reservation at a fancy Italian place and I'm going to pay for everything. We will have fancy wine tonight." This was a real date and he was going to be serious about it but he wasn't going to be any less him and try to just make her laugh constantly.

Jenna would stay in one place forever if he let her. She'd be an old lady still living the same life she had now. She wouldn't change, not unless someone else pushed her toward anything else. And the best person for that was Ty. But he always joked about these things and she didn't think beyond that. She'd had no reason to think beyond that until now. Something had changed, something was different about tonight and she didn't really understand what it meant. She had no idea what it might mean, but she knew something was changing. They couldn't do this and not have something change.

They went to things together. They dressed up and saved each other from being dateless to things. This was different, though. This wasn't just them going to in public, this was them dressing up for each other. She was seeing him differently, all dressed up. He looked different, he looked good, and it was for her this time. That was the part that changed everything. She let him lead her out, her smile getting bigger. This was already different. He hadn't teased her about blushing, this was really different for them. "Sounds good to me," she said simply. Her brain didn't seem to be working quite right at the moment. She always had something to say to him, always had a response, she didn't have trouble starting a conversations, she just didn't know what to say right now. Everything was different. And she was going to have to adjust to everything and find her footing again.

He wanted more. He liked what he had now, he loved his position right now. It was great. He had a really good gig going on right now and girls liked him and he had this cool little sports car and a pretty nice apartment. It was great. For now. He was twenty five, he didn't want to be settled down with children right now. He didn't need a super serious relationship or a wife or a family or a house. He liked being single and having an apartment and not having to deal with a lawn or a water heater. For now. At some point he'd want that to change. He'd want to grow up and have a real relationship and an adult life. So far the only person he had ever met who he would want to have that with was Jenna. In all seriousness he thought they would be a perfect couple. Not right now, he liked them as friends so much right now, but she was the ideal for him. But maybe this date would change his opinion.

He had trimmed his beard and brushed his hair for her, he had ironed his clothes for her. He hadn't done those things because it was expected and that's how you dressed at weddings and funerals and events. He was doing it for her, he wanted her to like how he looked, to be impressed. He had more to offer her than his awkward sense of humor, he could look good in a jacket and nice shirt. "You ready for this? You don't want to like...change into some jeans and go to a bar or anything, right?" he asked with a playful tone, looking at her with a grin. This was different and strange but he was sure it'd be comfortable soon enough.

She hadn't thought about more. She wasn't the type to think about more, because she was very good at being ok with where she was right then. She adjusted to change, but she didn't really love it. She mostly just resisted it. But this was different. This was Ty, and he was the one and only person she willingly changed for. She was much better at change when it was for him. But she'd never seriously thought about them being together. It was something she joked about, something people teased her about, but it wasn't serious, it wasn't going to happen. Until now. It was different now. She didn't know what was different, but it was different and she wasn't sure how ok with that she was yet.

She'd done her hair. And her makeup. That never happened. She always had her hair in a ponytail, and she might put on some mascara to leave the house, but she didn't do this. She didn't get dressed up and do her hair and makeup. This was very, very different, but that was alright with her, at least for now. She shook her head, laughing softy."No. This is perfect. This is exactly what I wanna be doing." It was extremely different, and weird, but they'd get the hang of it soon enough. They'd figure this out. Even if nothing came of it, they'd figure this out, because that was who they were. They'd known each other for way too long to not find their footing.

She could be where she was forever. That was fine for her. If he didn't love her so much that would be fine. If he had ever met another girl who he felt strongly about that would be fine for Jenna. But he had never met a girl he really liked. He had crushes and he had girls he wished lived closer. But he had never really been with anyone and liked them so much that Jenna wasn't just in the back of his mind. It was a fun joke with real feelings behind it. He loved Jenna and one day he'd just be so far in love with her. But it wasn't now, he felt like now wasn't the time. They were young and they were having fun, they partied and slept with who they liked and had a lot of fun. He didn't need to settle down and he knew that being with Jenna would equal settling down, because if he was ever with her he'd be with her forever. He didn't really want that right now, he didn't want that finality. But she had made a move, without realizing it Jenna had started something, and he was going to follow through.

She looked great. She had put effort into it to go out with him. She wore her hair down and put on make up for him. He trimmed his beard for her and actually brushed his hair instead of letting it do whatever. This was kind of major. He had on pants, not skinny jeans for her right now. He actually got dressed like an adult. This was a big deal and they would treat it like so. It was a little awkward but it wouldn't stay that way because they were Ty and Jenna and they were two halves of a whole, they were the best of friends. Going on a date wouldn't be something they couldn't handle. He laughed and nudged her shoulder gently with his, "I knew you always wanted to date me. I'm glad you stopped denying it." he teased a bit with a grin as they reached the elevator. He pressed the button and it actually came almost right away. He walked in and pressed the ground floor button before leaning back against the wall, finally letting go of her hand to put his hands in his pockets. "I am very excited actually. I'm glad you asked me out on a date."

Jenna could stay where she was forever. She didn't really need to date anyone, that wasn't really a priority in her life. she hadn't ever had a relationship that was more offline than on, ever. They weren't serious, and it wasn't really all that important for her to have those relationships. She needed Ty around, and a few others, but that was it. She loved Ty, she did, but she wasn't in love with him. She didn't think of him like that. He was her best friend, he was the person she could always talk to and count on, he was the one person she was completely and totally comfortable with, and it showed. It was why she was as comfortable as she was with being all over him the way she was.

She'd tried really hard to look nice for him. She didn't do that very often. It wasn't like she didn't know how to dress like an adult, she just didn't do it very often. She owned nice clothes for when she needed them, she just didn't need them very often. Right now, she had pulled up all the stops. It was awkward and weird right now, but it wasn't going to stay that way. They would find their rhythm and this would be fun. Maybe nothing would come of it, it would just be an adult evening together, but at the same time, there was that possibility of more. They had known each other way too long to have an awkward evening. She just knew that things felt different right now, and she didn't know what it was, exactly. She grinned at him as they moved into the elevator, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "I was really just teasing you. I didn't expect it to really happen," she said with a soft laugh. "But I'm glad it did."

He didn't want to have a real major relationship right now. He didn't want to maybe compromise what they had right now. He loved their relationship. They worked together and they spoke everyday and they saw each other more often than they didn't. They had a blast. If he was in a relationship with her a lot would change, a lot of what he did would have to change. He liked going out and going to bars whenever he felt like, he liked sleeping in his bed alone, he liked blaring music while he worked, he liked getting to have sex with Isabelle Madison. He didn't want to give that up, not really. That was why he didn't have a girlfriend, that's why he didn't have relationships. Not because he was weird or awkward and uncomfortable but because he never made a move to reach that point. He didn't want that, not really. But if he was going to have it with anyone it'd be with Jenna because she was Jenna and she was the best. She was his favorite ever.

She looked amazing. He had never seen her look like this exactly. They had gone to a wedding last year they had put on some really nice clothes and did their hair and she did her make up and they looked good but this was different. She was on a date with him and she put effort in for him. She looked amazing. She was always the prettiest girl in the world in his eyes, today more so than normally. "You weren't really teasing me. Because if you were teasing me you would have instantly said you were joking and this wouldn't have happened. We'd be getting drunk somewhere. Well, I'd be getting drunk and you'd be giving me your free drinks."

Jenna just got comfortable with what she had and she didn't move on. She didn't want things to change because she liked how things were. If she ever really thought about it, she would be so sure that only good would come from them being together. She wasn't really interested in a real relationship with someone she didn't know as well as she knew Ty. That just wasn't going to happen because it was too much change. It wouldn't be with him, it would work and there wouldn't be a lot in her life that changed. Her life changed more when he had a girlfriend, just because she had to act differently around him when he did. She just hadn't ever considered it. It hadn't occurred to her that there could be more between them. Jenna's mindset on life didn't generally include the romantic side of things. Her mind just didn't go there.

The thing that was different was that last time he'd seen her all dressed up, it hadn't been for him. She dressed up because it was expected of her, and he just happened to be her date because it was convenient. This time, she'd dressed to impress him, she'd dressed for him, and she was his date because she wanted to be. They could be out drinking tonight like they usually did, but they were going out to a nice restaurant instead. She hadn't ever really looked at him like this, she was seeing him differently tonight. And she felt different around him. "No, I really was teasing. But I wasn't against it really happening, either. We needed to do something other than just hanging out at the bar. This seemed like a good option."

They would probably be a great couple. He felt like the other thing that would add to their relationship was the physical side. They'd be closer too. They were already incredibly close and they did so much together and they were such a good team that being a couple would just make them even better, they could only get better. He would love to date her. His mind went there because Ty wasn't as focused on the now, he wasn't just about enjoying the now, he needed more than that. He needed a future. He needed change and different things, he couldn't be in a rutt. He had never considered their relationship a rutt before, it was just what they were. But today could change his mind. They were going on a date and it was a real date and they had dressed up and this could change things. Or it could just be a lot of fun acting like real adults. "Going on a date with me sounds like a good option? What does that even mean? You wanted this. You wouldn't have even teased if you hadn't kind of wanted it, deep in your subconscious." He finished talking and the doors opened and he offered his arm to her with a grin.

They had a great base for a real relationship. They were going on two decades of friendship, and they'd been best friends that entire time. They knew each other better than anyone else in the world. That was the kind of friendship that led to a good relationship, if that's what you really wanted. The only thing they were really missing from their relationship now that made it just friendship was the sexual part of it. Nothing was sexual at all between them, even if it seemed that way at times. They were all over each other, but it didn't mean anything, not really. She held his hand all the time, but holding his hand right now had a slightly different meaning. This was a date. It was either a step forward in their relationship or just a night out, but everything felt different, at least for tonight. Everything felt different to her, even just holding his hand. [b]"I just said you owed me a nice dinner. I don't think I ever actually called it a date. That was you. You wanted to see my moves, remember?" she disagreed with a grin, taking his arm without a second thought. This was a date, she had told him she'd act like she did on a date. And this was part of it.
