HOW TO BREATHE! aren't you cool. unfortunately we have some rules we go by here, just to keep things as bad ass as they've always been, but most of it is common sense. that being said, please read them! we're pretty lax most of the time, but if breaking the rules becomes a habit we will throw you off our site, comprende?
don't be an ass.
plain and simple... be nice. at the very least, don't be a jerk. be respectful, reasonable, and be understanding. do not spam the boards or flood out other people's threads by bumping more often than every three days. we will not tolerate hate of any kind on how to breathe. this includes your ~*BAMF JUSTiiCE LEAGUE*~, which are those sexy mofo's with the !'s and *'s next to their names. our word is law, so if we see you breaking this rule, expect a warning. we have a three strike policy -- three warnings, and you're gone. just be cool, and we won't have any problems.
keep it real.
this goes without saying, seeing as how we're a real life site. this means real life situations will happen, including sex, violence, and other taboo subjects. we ask that if you choose to write these things, tag your thread with an M so people know what they're getting into. on that note... do not flood the board with M threads. we don't need invisionfree to terminate our site, thank you very much.
realism also means no mary-sues and gary-stus. we all know what they are, and they're super lame, so try to refrain from those as well.
unf unf unf.
graphics are cool, we just ask that you make your avatars no bigger than 200x300px and your signatures no wider than 600px wide. also, no blatant nudity. keep it tasteful and within invisionfree's terms and conditions. finally, we do not allow faces who do not want to be used, or any children under-13. if you have any questions or concerns, you can always request or look for graphics at one of the awesome resource sites out there, or request in our graphic section.
capslock is your friend.
when registering, make sure your username is a FIRST and LAST NAME in all caps.
if you accidentally make a mistake, pm an admin or check out the
name change/fix thread! don't make an entirely new account.
admissions.
it's spelled out for you in bright red letters in the app template, but in case you miss it, APPS ARE TO BE 800 WORDS. yes, we know it used to be 500. we changed it to 800. if you have an actual character idea in mind, this should not be impossible to accomplish.

here at HOW TO BREATHE we currently don't have a character limit, so you can make as much as many bamfs as you want... as long as you can keep them all active and threading!
reality check, peepz.
we understand everyone has lives and we're not preventing you from doing what you have to. we only ask that you keep your characters active or alert us of a possible absence past three days. don't abuse the away system -- if you're going to post one, don't be hanging around in the icc or cbox. private messages to explain any special situations are always suggested.
keep in mind: faces will belong to their rightful owners until an activity check deems them inactive or a consensus from the admins has deemed it rightful for the taking. please be sure to ask.
we also don't want to hear people pestering others for a reply. please be patient. the general consensus is that it's annoying as shit and will just make that person take longer, so don't do it!
words are meh.
we have no word count. try to match your partner/s, and try to refrain from one-liners. that's all we ask.
twins are like rare pokemon
unfortunately we can't let everyone prance around being a twin, triplet, quadruplet, etc. this is only a temporary rule, but for now we ask that you refrain from making twins using the same face claim.
the cbox is like a baby
we must all nourish and love our cbox like it's our child, because we need it to communicate, in character and out of character. so be nice, don't advertise, welcome guests and newbies, and don't start fights. for the icc, to prevent flooding, you may not have more than two characters in the icc at once. you may not put a character in there if they haven't got an accepted app, and preferably a thread in progress.
fun is a must.
that is the single most important rule that you need to get from this. HOW TO BREATHE was made as a laid back, accepting, nonjudgmental home for writers who need and want fun. so yeah, seriously, have fun. it's a requirement.
