Marlene just shrugged again. She could see where Alix was coming from. The parents that lived vicariously through their children annoyed her too. Especially the ones that made up the audiences at sporting events and recitals, becoming angry with their children over the slightest mistakes. Maybe it was a good thing that her kids have never been big on sports. Marlene could see herself embodying the psycho soccer mom persona very easily. "Well, you don't want to be totally uninvolved either."
"It has to be your work. She never asks me for help unless I bug her about it." And that was something that happened frequently. Marlene had tried to cut back and let her daughter be independent because she knew that her clinging had been the thing that had caused them to grow apart in the first place. "I don't mind Andrew. I know he probably isn't the best influence, but neither am I ... if we're being honest."
