The Saturday was sunny and bright as Nahla and Haylie walked through Ashwick's Shopping Street, trying to find a good store to get an outfit for she and Haylie for Easter Sunday. Her father was so overjoyed to have her back in town, and she knew he'd hear nothing about her not attending Church, although Nahla herself was a devout Buddhist and Haylie had herself never been to a Baptist Church. Nahla had a choice given to her by her parents on which route she wanted to go down, and after spending a Sunday in a Baptist establishment, Nahla had promptly decided where she was most suited. The word the deacon gave was wonderful as Nahla remembered, but the theatrics was the shit she could live without.

<p>As of right now though, Nahla would thank any and every deity that had been gracious enough to have her life in alignment with her expectations - Haylie was transitioning to American school very well, and was making friends. Nahla was getting her shit together musically and was preparing to do her first album independently. And then there was she and Julian. Things seemed great, and it was. Every time they came in contact with one another Nahla just couldn't contain her smiles, laughs and happiness - it was like she was falling in love with him all over again and she honestly felt like she was floating on a cloud. Haylie and Julian's relationship was wonderful as well so it was no surprise that both girls looked like the happiest mother and daughter as they walked through, trying to find the store that would fit their needs.

<p>"Mommy," Haylie tugged at her arm, and Nahla looked down at her before the girl pointed, and in the window of one of the shops was a familiar sight - both of them looked at each other and grinned. "Shh," She put a finger to her lips, and Nahla gently led Haylie into the shop until she crept up behind Julian, wrapping her small hands around his eyes. Rising to the balls of her toes, she reached far enough to whisper in his ear. "Guess who," She said, and giggled lightly. "Yeah, guess who." Haylie whispered as well, standing in front of him as she grabbed his hands.

Julian was exhausted from all the errands he had to run today. First, he made the decision to get his hair colored and it took a little longer than he needed it to be. Then, he had to pick up his nephew to get his haircut before he dropped him back off at home hours later and now he was at the Ashwick shopping street picking up an Easter outfit. Honestly, he really didn't want to celebrate the holiday this time around because school was definitely taking a toll on him but he promised his mom he would go to church with her as usual.

<p>He bit his bottom lip as he walked inside of the shop, making a mental note of what exactly he wanted so he could walk straight out. As he looked through the clothes, his mind began to wander over to Nahla and Haylie. Today, they seemed to pop up in his head at random moments and he couldn't help but to smile each time he thought about them. Everything had been going so right. Nahla and him were getting along better than ever, and his relationship with Haylie was growing stronger each day. Julian couldn't have been happier about it. </p>

As he looked at the ties, his eyes were soon covered. He furrowed his brow in confusion before he heard a familiar voice whisper into his ear and another one follow right behind that. "Hm, the boogey monsters?" He asked before letting out a small laugh. Somehow he was able to free himself from the small grip she had on him, and removed the hands from in front of his face. "I was right." Julian smirked, he was more than happy to see Nahla and Haylie standing right in front of him. He picked his daughter up, before giving her a kiss on the cheek. Leaning over, he gave Nahla one as well. "What's up?"

Nahla giggled slightly as Haylie poked her lips out, before smiling herself. "Ah...could be!" She said, before Nahla laughed, and her eyes were uncovered. Soon Haylie was scooped off the ground, and both of the girls smiled, receiving kisses from the man they loved so much. "We were looking for outfits for tomorrow," She said, and Haylie cut her eyes at her. "But someone does not want to wear a dress," Nahla rose an eyebrow and Haylie sighed slowly. "Daddy! She tried to put frilly stuff on me." She sighed before she laid her head on his shoulder, and Nahla tried not to laugh. As 'girly' as her daughter was, she hated dresses more than anything. "I wanna wear a pan'suit." She said, and Nahla rubbed her forehead, chuckling.

<p>"See what I gotta deal with?" She asked, with a chuckle before she took Julian in, noticing his hair. "Awee, baby! It looks nice," She ran a hand through it, before she put an arm around his waist. "You lookin' for a suit?" She asked, when something caught the corner of her eye. For some reason she felt the wave of uneasiness and she couldn't place a finger on why until she heard the airy voice. "Nahla?" Nahla turned around and fixed a smile on her face, before she gently reached out to the older individuals. "Oh...hi, mom. Dad," They hugged, before her mother looked behind Nahla, straight at Julian and Haylie. "Oh my...Haylie's gotten so big," She said, looking back to Nahla without acknowledging Julian at all. "Where have you been? Your father said you called him...but I haven't heard from you." Nahla scratched her head, and sighed. So much for a good day...

Seeing the smiles on their faces made him feel warm inside, they truly brightened his day. When Nahla said that Haylie didn't want to wear a dress, he shook his head slightly to keep from laughing. Her response made it even worse for him. Julian turned his attention to Haylie. "I bet if you wear a dress, the Easter bunny would bring you somethin' good." He told her, he completely forgot about getting something for Haylie for the holiday. Julian made a mental note to pick something up on his way home.

<p>Julian chuckled at Nahla, "Man, she ain't that bad." He bit his bottom lip when he noticed her looking at his hair, he hoped she liked it as much as he did. "Glad you like it, babe." Julian said with a smile, before looking over at Haylie. "What about you, babygirl? You like it?" He asked her, before returning his attention back to Nahla. "Yeah, you mind helping me?" Julian wasn't too good with finding suits he liked and he just knew she would be a big help to him. </p>

The feeling of calmness soon ended for him when he heard a familiar voice, he just knew it was all over. Seeing Nahla's parents stand before him just made him so uncomfortable. He knew her mother didn't like him after all the things he did and honestly, he wasn't too fond of her either. When she ignored his presence, he felt disrespected but he wasn't going to act out with Haylie in his arms. "Nice to see you too, Mrs. Greene."

Because I didn't want to talk to you, Nahla's relationship with her mother went from decent to strained to unbearable all throughout Nahla's lifetime. Her mother had always been and always would be a strict Asian mother who never thought anything was good enough if it wasn't by her standards. Julian had never been Mrs. Greene's up of tea, ever. He had too many tattoos, he had piercings and he was just everything that a 'respectable young woman' would never go for. But Nahla knew Julian was the one for her, from the moment they met back in High School. As for Nahla's dad, he was weary of any guy that wanted to be with his daughter, but he had grew fond of Julian, and was excited about them getting married.

<p>The divorce overall was even more bitter in Nahla's case because her parents were left torn about it in terms of reaction - her mother was more than eager to tell Nahla 'I told you so', while her father was overall confused about the need for separation. He had no idea what went on between Nahla and Julian as far as problems, and when he found out he was hurt and even more confused. But Mrs. Greene...she held the origin of Nahla's vengeful nature in the past. Nahla spoke to them about leaving for Japan and Mrs. Green was more than happy to help her pack, only because she knew it was a jab at Julian's feelings. It was the one thing the daughter and mother agreed on and it was the worst thing they ever could've done.

<p>Mrs. Green stared Julian down a bit, before she nodded slowly, not even a fake smile crossing her face. It was a nod of acknowledgement, only because Haylie was there and no one wanted to show cross or conflict in her presence. "Let me see my baby," She did however, smile at Haylie, and Haylie grinned as Nahla watched her be passed off. "Hi Gramma, Grampa," Haylie said before Mr. Greene looked at both Nahla and Julian with an apologetic eye. He was stuck in the middle, sympathetic towards his daughter and her ex-husband, but not in the mood to regulate his wife's behavior. It was just messed up. "So...you're here for Easter outfits too, Julian?" He asked, and Nahla just felt smaller and smaller. She wanted to get out of there.

Julian clenched his jaw when Mrs. Greene only stared at him, and he was only given a nod. To him, it was disrespectful but he was going to maintain his cool for Haylie and Nahla. He didn't like her mother one bit, and he knew for sure that the feeling was mutual. Even back when they were in high school, he didn't think too fondly of her. Each time he went to Nahla's house, he felt as if he was being judged constantly by her mother. He tried to hide his emotions for Nahla's sake, but sometimes he couldn't bite his tongue for her and they got into a couple fights. Julian knew it was worse now because of their divorce.

<P> After handing Haylie over, he placed his hands in his pockets and gazed over at Nahla for a quick second. It didn't seem like she was taking the small interaction with her parents very well. Feeling someone's eyes on him, he turned his attention to the direction where he felt them. When he saw Mr. Greene, he smiled lightly at the man. He respected him way more than his wife, and hated that he had to be caught in the crossfire of him and Mrs. Greene's fight. "Yes sir, my moms want me to spend Easter with her and my stepdad, so I have to find something nice to wear for her." </p>

When he saw the uneasiness in Nahla, he pulled her closer to him and gently rubbed her back. He didn't care that her parents were around. All he wanted to do was comfort her right now, so she was at ease like she was moments before.

Nahla could never really understand all the hostility her mother held for Julian...it was almost really disheartening and even now Nahla just wanted to scream. But as much as her mother aggrivated her with all her expectations that Nahla had 'ruined' for her, she couldn't scream at her mother. Hell, it was the woman who birthed her, raised her and who put up with Nahla at her worst. If not for her mother there would be things Nahla would've never experienced...good as well as not so much. She rubbed her arm as her mother and Haylie communicated, successfully shutting out everyone else in earshot.

<p>She felt herself being pulled and she felt a loss of tension in Julian's arms, and she wrapped an arm around him, laying her head on his shoulder. She wasn't sure what she'd do without him right then. "So," Mr. Greene piped up, bringing everyone back to a collective attention. "It's so nice to see both of you again. I was excited when Nahla told us she was coming back," He said, and Mrs. Greene let Haylie back onto the ground, before Haylie stood at her mother's side. "And I was wondering where you'd gone, son. You're still working on that degree I hope," Her father smiled at Julian, almost like a proud father and that made Nahla feel more at ease.

When Nahla relaxed a bit in his arms, he was able to relax as well. He knew her parents were causing her to be uneasy so, he was going to do anything to help her. He was glad that her mother was busy occupying her time with her granddaughter instead of arguing with him and Nahla. Julian didn't want to argue with her with Haylie around, so it was best that they kept their distance from one another.

<p>Hearing Mr. Greene's voice, he looked towards the man to listen. "Nice to see you too, Mr. Greene. And yes, I'm still working on my degree. Actually I'm almost finished with school." He said with a smile, Julian was glad that he was almost done with college. He was so ready for it all to be over with.

Nahla kept her mind on the conversation at hand, and she smiled, reaching for the hand around her waist and lacing her fingers with his before she looked up at him. She honestly was proud that he was doing the college thing, because she knew that she herself just couldn't see herself doing it. "Wonderful! You're still majoring in music, yes? The two of you should be working together," He said, and Nahla rolled her eyes slightly, smirking. "Dad," She mumbled like an embarassed child. The idea had been on the table before things got complicated, and seeing as they were thrust back into this 'honeymoon' type affection for one another, she was sure the song would be nothing but fluffy, mushy, unadultured filth.

<p>Her dad's suggestion was pretty much the dead giveaway that he could see that they were back on good terms with one another. He was good at reading his daughter, and he knew how she was. It was funny enough that he predicted it not long after they divorced, and Nahla waved him off, thinking the mere thought was crazy. But now she knew better - some people...belonged, together. She guessed that whether she wanted it or not, Julian was hers, and she, his. "Don't meddle in her business, Adric," Her mother chimed in, before she put on a smile. Nothing good came of her smiles, however. "Besides, how awkward would it be, for them to work together under such strained conditions?" She said, and Nahla cleared her throat, watching her mother eye her holding Julian's hand. "It wouldn't be strained..." Nahla didn't have to say it. The uneasiness in her father's face and the grave venom in her mother's made it pretty clear that the 'secret' was out in the open.

Julian removed his hand from around her waist to lace it with her own. The warmness that he felt made him feel so good on the inside. He was truly glad to have Nahla back in his life again. Hearing her father's idea made Julian think for a second. It wasn't a bad idea at all, and besides they were supposed to work together before all the madness happened. They just never got around to it. "Yeah, I'm down with that as long as Nahla is." He said with a smile, looking over at her.

<P>When her mother spoke out about the situation, it made his smile disappear. Even looking at her made his stomach churn, it was that smile, something about it just disgusted him. He shook it off, before focusing his attention on Nahla instead of his ex mother-in-law, but no matter what he did he could still feel the dirty look her mother was giving him. "Um, I'll be right back." He said, before walking away from the scene and over to the suits. Normally, he would've picked an argument with Mrs. Greene, but he wasn't going to do that to Nahla or Haylie.

Please don't leave me with them, please don't leave me with them, She thought, but when he walked away, Nahla knew she was in for it. "Haylie, go help your father pick out a suit," Mrs. Greene remarked, and Nahla tilted her head, nodding at Haylie before her daughter was away from the brewing storm as well. Nahla stared at her mother, and her mother stared right back, leaving a spark of confrontation right on the horizion. "I'm assuming the two of you are back together?" She asked, and Nahla nodded. "Yes," She said, and the silence ensued again. "Kai," Her father managed to speak, but the woman held up a hand, before she stepped to her daughter, squinting her eyes slightly.

<p>"Don't you think perhaps...this is a bit sudden? Misguided, even?" She asked, and Nahla rolled her eyes, crossing her arms and sinking her shoulders, in a perfect position to shut down and stop listening to what the woman was saying. "Why do you care?" She asked, and Kai sighed, before rubbing her forehead slowly. "Do I have to explain? The arguments? The cheating? The nights I've had to come over and keep both of you from being charged for assault?" She asked, and Nahla sighed, running her hands through her hair. "That was then," Nahla replied, and Kai nodded. "History only repeats itself. I'm trying to help you. That...thug, will only bring you down farther."

<p>"Excuse me...?" Nahla almost lost herself in her emotions, and she backed away from her parents. "Look...I'm not doing this with you today, or any other day. Don't come around me with that bullshit anymore, okay?" "Nahla-" Her father was trying to speak, but Nahla put a hand up, shaking her head. "I don't wanna hear it." She shook her head. "Not gonna do it. You don't have to like it, but what you're not going to do, is this extra bullshit in front of my child. You're not. So you come around when you get your act together." She said, walking away from them, mumbling a few choice words in Japanese before she returned to Julian's side. "...Find anything yet?" She asked, rubbing her forehead.

As he stood there looking at suits, he didn't seem to notice Haylie coming his way until she pulled lightly on his pants leg. "Hey babygirl." Julian slipped his hand inside of her small one as he walked down the line of suits. It was taking awhile for Nahla to join them, so he tried to look as casual as he could over at them. He didn't want to be nosy, but he wanted to make sure that she was okay. When he looked over there and saw the two of them arguing, he frowned and shook his head. He didn't understand why her mother was acting the way she did.

<p>After a couple of more moments, Nahla was soon by his side. Julian could easily see that she was bothered by something. "Nah, not really." He forgot all about the suits when he saw her arguing with her mother, Julian just wanted to make sure that she was okay. "You good though?"

Nahla just shrugged, before she rubbed her forehead, sighing a bit. She was more upset about letting her mother get under her skin than what she said. She was actually glad that Julian had walked away, because that bullshit she was saying about him being a thug would've had brought so much drama. "I'll be fine, don't worry." She kissed his cheek, before her eyes scanned over some of the suits. She saw one that she really liked, and she reached out and ran her hand over it.

<p>"This would look good on you," She looked up at him, merely making the suggestion, before she grabbed the suit. "What you think, Haylie?" She looked down, and her daughter shrugged slowly. "I don't know. Daddy has to put it on." She said, and Nahla nodded, looking at Julian with a smirk, automatically forgetting about the craziness from before. "Yeah, go try it on, Daddy."

When she said that she would be okay, he simply nodded his head hoping that her words were true. Julian watched as she scanned the suits, hoping at least one would catch her eye because honestly he couldn't find anything he liked. Once she spotted a suit that she liked, he looked it over briefly and nodded his head. It looked nice for the most part, and when he heard Haylie's suggestion he shook his head. Julian looked at both of them with a frown.

<p>"Mannn." He said, before picking up the suit and heading over to the changing room. Julian changed into the outfit and placed his things on the door of the changing room. Once he was finished, he walked out of the dressing room and back over to the girls. "What you think?"

"Go on and try it on," Nahla gently nudged him towards the dressing rooms, with the same cocked eyebrow she'd give Haylie when she didn't want to do something but a small smile accompanied it to indicate the joking nature. Once he went into the dressing room, Nahla sat down in one of the chairs, quickly joined by Haylie as she climbed into her lap. They didn't have to wait long until he came out.

<p>"Ooh," Haylie said in awe. She had never seen Julian outside of casual clothes, or at least she couldn't remember a time when he was dressed up, but Nahla was thrust back down memory lane to when he took her to prom. "You look like those men from the movies, Daddy," Haylie hopped off Nahla's lap and held his hands. "You look so handsome," Nahla said with a small blush, before Haylie turned around, and giggled. "Mommy's red."

When she looked at him with a cocked eyebrow, Julian frowned at her. It wasn't long before the expression turned into a smile when he realized that she was joking. After he was done getting dressed, and walked out of the dresser room. He smiled when he saw the look of awe on Haylie's face. It was the first time that she saw him out of his casual clothes, so he knew that this had to be a surprise for her. He chuckled when she said she looked like one of the men from the movies.

<P> Julian looked over at Nahla to see her reddened cheeks, his smile gotten even larger. To hear that he looked handsome from her made him feel even better on the inside, it was like the day when they gotten married. All the weird feelings he had once before rushed back to him. "Thanks," he said softly, trying to shake the feelings off. When he heard Haylie's comment, he softly chuckled before shaking his head. "Are you gonna try on a dress now?"

Haylie's face turned into one of confusion and dismay, and Nahla did everything she could to keep from laughing. "This isn't 'bout me, Daddy..." Haylie countered, and Nahla's laugh came out immediately, before she covered her face. Calming herself down quickly, she ran a hand through her daughter's hair. "Now Haylie...don't you wanna be pretty tomorrow?" She said, and Haylie nodded, looking back at her. "But...a dress," Haylie's voice didn't turn into a whine like most children, but the sigh that came after clearly showed her dislike towards the thought of wearing a dress.

<p>"Hm...Daddy didn't want to try on the suit though. But he did. You know why? Because Daddy's mature," Nahla said, and Haylie bit her lip. "...I wanna be ma-sure too," Haylie said softly, and she looked between the both of them, her Hazel eyes lighting up a bit. "I'll try one on. You haffa help me pick, okay?" It was her version of bargaining, but Nahla was satisfied with the outcome. "Of course. That's my girl," She hugged Haylie, before she looked to Julian. "Alright, you can get that, and we can head to a dress shop."

Julian chuckled at Haylie's comment, before shaking his head. Their daughter was definitely a trip, and always kept him laughing even when she wasn't trying to. He nodded in agreement with Nahla, trying to convince her to wear the dress like her mother suggested. When Haylie showed her objection towards the dress, he shook his head. He was glad that she didn't wine like other kids would have, because they were his weakness. She could have easily hooked Julian like that.

<p> He played as a bystander to Nahla and Haylie's conversation, nodding his head at certain things. When she finally gave in, he gave her a small applause. "Alright, give me a second." He said, before moving back to the dressing room to put the clothes he had on earlier. Once he was through, he walked over to the cashier to pay for the suit before returning to his family. "Alright, y'all ready?"

Haylie nodded at Julian before she sat on Nahla's lap, and she laid her head on her mother's shoulder as they waited for him to get redressed then pay for the suit. "I'm proud of you for being a big girl for me and Daddy," She said, and Haylie smiled a little before she nodded. "I'm a big girl?!" She said with some enthusiasm, and Nahla chuckled before nodding slowly. "Sure are. It takes a big girl to do things that she doesn't always want to do." She said, and Haylie grinned, proud of herself at the moment. Nahla just smiled and sat back, waiting until Julian came back to them.

<p>"Yep, let's go babe," Nahla said, and Haylie got up, grabbing both of their free hands before they headed out of the shop. Nahla kept her eyes alert for the store they were looking for, and Haylie pointed at the shop that from the display window, looked like a little girl's clothing store. "Ah! Good eyes," She said, as they headed inside. As Nahla expected, the place was pale pink, full of girly clothes and playing clean versions of bubble gum pop, some of which Nahla recognized as her own producing work. Awkward. "Now, what color dress do you want?" She looked down at Haylie and the girl shrugged. "What color is prettiest?" She looked between Nahla and Julian for answers.

Once she said they were ready, Julian slipped his hand inside of Haylie's before they walked towards the door with his new suit in tow. It wasn't long before Haylie picked a store for them to go into. Julian couldn't believe she was actually doing this, she was her own person and stuck in her ways like Julian was. When they walked into the shop, and he saw all of the pink he shook his head. "I think she'll look good in a light green dress, you?"

"Light green sounds good to me...how about you?" She looked down at Haylie, who nodded her head slowly. She let go of her parents' hands, and she slowly approached a rack, humming and looking through it as if she was an expert. Nahla chuckled, pulling out her phone and snapping a picture, before showing it to Julian. "This one!" Haylie looked up at them, holding onto the skirt of what looked like to be a nice, simple dress. It was light green, and it didn't like the usual dresses that poofed out at the waist. "It's perfeck," She said. "Let's go try it on. We'll be back," She said to Julian, before the girls went to find a dressing room.

Julian watched as Haylie approached the rack and began to search for a dress. He bit his bottom lip to keep from laughing at her, but when Nahla showed her a picture of their daughter searching through the clothes. A small laugh left from his lips. The dress that Haylie came out with was pretty to him as well, he thought that she would look nice in it. When Nahla announced that they were going to try it own, Julian sat down on the nearest bench, and started to fumble with his phone to wait for them to finish.

Haylie slowly got out of her clothes once Nahla had the door closed and secured, and she slipped on the dress, before she turned to face Nahla, beaming from ear to ear. Nahla knew that it was the dress, she just knew it. "Wanna show daddy?" She asked, and Haylie nodded, going to the door and opening it, before walking over to where Julian was. "Look!" She said, before Nahla peeked out, chuckling as she began to model the dress.

<p>"It's cute on her," Nahla said, before she snapped a couple pictures. "C'mon babe, so we can buy it," She said, and Haylie nodded, heading back to her before they closed the door to the dressing room. They got out of the dressing room after a couple of moments, the dress on the hanger and hanging off of Nahla's hand. "Did you need to go anywhere else, Ju? I've already got my dress, but we can do something else after this if you wanted," She said, standing before him.

When he heard Haylie's small voice of excitement, he looked up to be greeted by her in the pretty dress. He watched as she began to model the dress around with, and laughed a little. "Yeah, it is cute." He said with a small nod, snapping a few pictures of his own to send out to his family. Julian fumbled with his phone once again when they returned to the dressing room, and once he noticed them coming out he stood to his feet.

<p>"Wanna go out to eat? I'm kinda hungry." He suggested, before he stretched his arms. Julian was a bit famished after all the shopping they had done as well as his runs that he had to go through. Eating out with his family sounded good to him right about now.
